  • Join me (JSB) as I venture into another 'song of 24' * with The Bee Gees and their 1983 hit song The Woman in You, from the Staying Alive Soundtrack - a US #24 single!

*WHAT ARE 'SONGS OF 24?' This is a series loosely celebrating the fact we're (at time of posting) in the year '24' (that's 2024 folks), by listening to and/or revisiting songs with some connection to that number (the specific connection for this entry will be detailed above!).
    ABOUT ME AND THE CHANNEL:
Welcome to Acting is Reacting! I'm Joe or JSB (snappier than my full double-barrelled monstrosity of a name!), a New Zealand born and London (UK)
based music-obsessed actor who loves diving into sounds old and new. Join me on a musical journey as I explore and react to a wide range of genres, notably singer/songwriters, classic rock and prog - but much more besides - nothing is off the table! I'll cover artists I've loved since childhood -The Beatles, Billy Joel, Chicago, Gordon Lightfoot, Queen - right up to modern indie rock from Sam Fender, Giant Rooks and The Killers (to name a few), plus stuff from in between - Marillion, Toto, Rush...I could go on all day (and often do!). Whether it’s my first time hearing a song or the thousandth, I aim to share my genuine reactions and insights with you.
But wait, there's more...occasionally, I'll be taking a look at some of the projects I've been involved in as an actor, offering a unique 'self-reaction' to my work in the entertainment industry.
If you share my love for music and enjoy discovering new sounds, or if you're curious about the behind-the-scenes of acting, hit that subscribe button and join the community. Let’s enjoy this musical adventure together!

Thanks April, it's certainly hard to think of many who could rival them for longevity and such consistent quality over all those decades!

That fantastic sax solo was played by David Sanborn. He just died a couple weeks ago. He recorded and toured with many, many great bands and artists.

Thanks Wayne, am very familiar with David (RIP) from all kinds of places he popped up over the years, but had no idea it was him on this! Cheers, JSB.

Their last album was released in 2001. Lots of good music after 1983!!

Barry had trouble with falsetto after having a back injury that put him into surgery, but his voice is beautiful no matter what tone he sings in.

Oh wow, thanks Kathy, I didn't know that - but yes, I doubt he could sound bad if he tried!

They didn’t vanish…they were still doing great in Europe. Some of their later hits were ONE and YOU WIN AGAIN! Do those!

Thanks Sandra, those two would work nicely in a song war at some point, now you come to mention it...! JSB

The Longest Night on the ESP album from 1987. Has Robin's beautiful vocals and the Bee Gees sound they are known for.

Thanks for the comment - I've actually got a copy of that album kicking around somewhere, haven't heard it in MANY years, must track it down and give it a spin! JSB

Here in the UK and Europe they were doing brilliantly during this time. Try Someone belonging to Someone.

If you want something completely different from the Bee Gees that you are used to, I suggest you check out their last hit single from 2001 called "This Is Where I Came In", and if you want the full effect of the song, be sure to watch the official video for it. It is a great song, but sad in a way because it was the their last hit single before Maurice passed away, and Barry decided to end the Bee Gees as he didn't want to carry it on without Maurice.

Thanks for the suggestion...do you know I might have heard that one at the time, it rings a vague bell in my brain, but even if so it would be a good 20 years ago so probably worth revisiting! Cheers, JSB.

Now now Steve, I'll have you know the Bee Gees tribute bands are fighting over me and my 'unique' services as we speak! :p
