    I have a 26 spline T45 in my Mustang and it always had a whine after two rebuilds. Astro performance told me 26spline T45’s are know for it but who knows. Just did the reverse mod so it’s like butter getting in/out of reverse now

      Thanks for the input. I honestly should have torn this down further as it still whines. That wasn't always the case tho. Possibly a needle bearing inside the hubs or synchro damage IDK. next time it's apart I'll put a rebuild kit in it and likely a new clustershaft and hopefully not another input shaft.

      I thought they were all 10 spline?

    • @sslavik03
      @sslavik03 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bobbydouglas16 they come from the factory as a 10-spline. The aftermarket sells the 26-spline input shaft to install

      @@sslavik03 What reverse mod are you referring to? I would like to do this to my t45 while I have it apart.

      @@robertg247 sorry, i just saw your question. Theres a few good sites with good info on this mod. It involve machining and cutting of parts. I dont recall whats all involved anymore as i havent needed to do it. T45 source has some info and I'm sure you can find it with a search.

    I think my T45 may have a bent input shaft after I sent it down the 1/4 mile a few times not realizing it had a bad transmission mount... now it has a little wobble to it despite new pilot & throwout bearings... does the input shaft bearing cause any wobbling/vibration action? The fresh pilot and TOB did improve the chchchchch noise a bit but it's still there. It shifts great though. And the new clutch shifts awesome. It does not sound great if I lug it in 3rd though, and reverse always grinds if I dont shift it into 2nd beforehand. I suspect the bearings wont last long if it the shaft has some play, but the shaft didnt seem to have much of any slop in it when I gave it a hard shake. I've got a spare T45 of unknown origin laying that defintiely had a sloppy input shaft in comparison... maybe it's worth swapping the shafts out? Does anybody somehow check them for true/balance? Maybe check with a straight edge and a feeler gauge? Not only was the trans mount bad, but the bell housing bolts were also not properly torqued. Two were missing, two were WAY over torqued, and two were barely even finger tight about to fall out. Who knows maybe I should get a different trans all together and not even mess with this one?

      I'd look at your U joints too. Shouldn't be any movement to very little on the input shaft. This will vary depending on how worn parts are inside. I assume its in a mustang. Id be surprised if it was a bent shaft. But loose bolts and mounts will definitely beat up bearings and the tail housing bushing.
      I have a couple of used 10 spline input shafts here.

      If you launched it hard on slicks it might possible that you have a twisted input shaft.

    Dan I was wondering if you could answer a question what you may think the problem may be on a T45 I have the transmission shifts fine until you have driven the vehicle for a period of time and I guess the transmission heats up then shifting from gear to gear seems to bind up it's harder to shift transmission fluid has been changed and the right amount has been put into the unit any ideas you may have would be highly appreciated thanks Dan

      I'm not a transmission rebuilder, I'll tell you that straight out. First thought is what fluid did you use? The wrong fluid has been known to tear the syncro lining off. So it may be that if it's never been opened before. It's hard to say. Is it making noise?

    Did you have to re-shim when you upgraded to a 26 spline from a 10?

    • @danscustomprojects4486
      @danscustomprojects4486  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The first time it was rebuilt and upgraded I had it done professionally. Shimmed to spec.

    Can you Hondabond the case or is there cheap gasket kits?

    • @danscustomprojects4486
      @danscustomprojects4486  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I generally use black permatex RTV gasget maker. There's no gaskets in there out of the factory

      JThompson builds has a more in depth video on T45. Check him out too. I've had this one apart a few times but haven't actually edited all my videos for a full tear down/rebuild
