- An ‘infodemic’ is defined by the WHO as too much information including false or misleading information in digital and physical environments during a disease outbreak. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a bolus of conflicting information, data, and opinions about the virus and its prevention measures led to public bewilderment and message fatigue. In this presentation we will review the problem of infodemics, and how we can reduce information overload and confusion by prioritizing consistent and clear science communication. Presented by the Alabama Regional Center for Infection Prevention and Control. Cosponsored by the Region IV Public Health Training Center.
