I Made A Vintage Headboard Into A Custom Fireplace: DIY
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 27 ก.ย. 2024
- I bought this, stored it for years, then tried to sell it, and then tried even giving it away. No one wanted it. Finally, I gave in to the fact that this was mine for good, and decided to repurpose it into a custom fireplace surround/mantle for a new relaxation room I'm creating for myself.
I had to build a frame and front panel for the electric insert I bought, making sure to follow all of the recommended thresholds as outlined in the manual. Even though this isn't real fire, these inserts need room to properly vent. I tried to do this as economically as possible, using up scrap bits of plywood and MDF left over from other projects, and some solid walnut offcuts.
While there are some things I'd probably do differently were I to do this all again, overall I'm please with it, and I'll be sure to send along updated photos of it once it's installed in the new room.

Oh my gosh....it catches ones breath..... Incredible idea Angie. You never disappoint. ...thank you so much for the beauty you have created for us. ❤❤❤
You're very welcome!! 😊
Great review/comment and so true!
Thanks
What she said. And welcome back. ❤❤❤❤
@TranscendFurnitureGallery I have an intact bedframe with a bookcase headboard which was my grandparents' bedframe and they had put speakers into the doors.
WOW that all, just WOW!
You should do more of these. That was an unexpected project. I love it
Thanks so much for watching!
Yes she could sell these!
After your comment about pressed wood I'm starting to change my mind about it. I still heavily prefer solid wood but I now realize it's about understanding the purpose and using the right techniques to refinish them. 6:30
I used to feel the same way, but once I learned to veneer and laminate, I fully embraced high-quality plywoods and MDF. For some purposes, pressed wood is simply better. For instance, real wood is not as good as MDF for speaker cabinets.
You could never talk “too much” in a video, what you say is always interesting. You are the first maker I have heard explain the actual point of dedicated pocket hole screws, for instance
I'm so glad you're enjoying my content! 😀
So cool!! We donated our son’s old bookshelf headboard to a local furniture flipper, who turned it into a mobile bar for a local restaurant!! Every time we go into town for an event, we always seek them out and tell the story again. You’re so creative and it looks just so good. Well done!!!
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
That sad old piece that no one wanted, found a new lease of life in a lovely warm home. Brilliant job Angie!
Thank you kindly! 😊
Love this quote from R. Buckminster Fuller. I live in a geodesic dome home which was designed by him. In the 1960s my husband met him after he gave a lecture to one one of his college classes. Great designer.
Great idea. And it was a super item to begin with had you elected to use it as a headboard. I'm 75 yo and love watching you young ladies repurpose real wood furniture. You all are so handy with tools, not just paint or varnish. I hope other young homemakers are watching and learning.
Thank you kindly! 😊
We are building a new/garage shop - Angie's videos are my tutorials for starting to do my own projects (in a couple of months).... love these videos so much! Signed a girl who used to only work on spreadsheets... ;-)
Angie, it seems that everything you do is golden. Fabulous!
Thank you so much!! 😊
Of course I made it all the way through. No one in their right mind would miss your handy work. Great way to save this poor lost useful piece of beauty!
Thank you very much! 😀
I love the detail you have where you thank the people who’ve sent you things. It shows how much you appreciate your followers.
I appreciate each and every one of you!!! ❤️
I love the Bucky Fuller quote. The man was a visionary.
Multiple project self - I wish I lived close to you so I could have purchased the headboard off of you. And it would still be collecting dust.
TH-cam watching self - Thanks for sharing such an amazing repurpose. Cheers to your relaxation room.
You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Well, I feel relaxed just looking at it! You did a great job, as always. For some reason, I can imagine a sweet kitty curled up in each side!!! 😺
Oh I think they'll really enjoy the fireplace. 😊
I really don’t know why I am surprised every time when you make over a piece that looks like crap and suddenly it’s unbelievably beautiful. I’m flabbergasted again!! Spectacular! Can’t believe how very wonderful this turned out.
Wow, thank you!
That is beautiful. My Grandparents had a bed set with a headboard bookcase. It's great to see one repurposed into something so soothing.
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
Wish I had the headboard myself! Saw some on line under $200 and will get one soon. Bookcase headboards are where the cats sleep if it’s too warm to snuggle in bed! 🐱
That's awesome. Good luck in finding what you want.
That is absolutely beautiful. Love the black with the wood. And that little pop of color is great. Never been disappointed with any of your transformations!!!
Wow, thank you so much! 😊
What an amazing idea for a renter who wants a fireplace, this project is so creative - and beautiful!!
Thanks so much! 😊
GREAT JOB ANGIE 👏👏👏👏
Thank you! 😊
Love your vision and the result is beautiful. thank you for your inspiration and care. xx
You're most welcome! 😀
What a beautiful cat ledge! I'm sure your furs will agree this is a perfect elevated place to lounge.
Classy and practical, and toasty warm. Just don't put anything breakable on top...
Wow!
Great makeover!
You've worked miracles again, Angie!😃👍💪
Thank you! 😊
I love this idea! I have a very similar headboard that got painted white. Not sure what's under that paint but the rails are long since broken and I think the footboard is MIA. I really like this idea of repurposing it into a fireplace.
You're such a clever girl!
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
Yes I agree with someone’s comment. You were meant to have this headboard to remake into something absolutely incredible. Gosh you really never disappoint Angie. You are so talented and really do have a great imagination for recreating something new from trash. Love your message of inspiration too. Be well and thank you for this amazing content that you work so hard at putting out for us fans ❤
You're so welcome Jodi! Thank you, again, for the support! 😊
As usual, you have made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Just gorgeous! And supremely functional. Bonus!
I'm so glad you like it! 😊
WOW,WOW. So beautiful and relaxing . Another triumph 💕🦋
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
WOW. The headboard brings back childhood memories for me. What a beautiful transformation.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
What a creative solution!!! This looks amazing!!
Thank you so much for watching!
amazing transformation as usual. Who’d a thunk an ugly old headboard and an electric fireplace could turn into a thing of beauty,. Love the “field guide to lucid dreaming” book too.😊
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
I LOVE THIS!!!! Great Job 👊🏻 Fantastic music for the reveal as well 😉
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😊
It took me back Angie - watching you work your magic on mid-century pieces. You have come so far since the sander attached to a vacuum with tape. I am so pleased for you 1🙂
Thank you very much! 😊
I just love how you take something and make & turn it into something else. Great video Angie❤.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Amazing. What a great idea! Stunning! Well done!
Thank you! 😊
That’s why you kept the ‘peace’ so long; long enough to realize it was yours as a new project. Looks great. I’ve two of those drop in heater fireplaces and I just thank myself yearly for the indulgence.
Binging on your pleasant and beautiful work, both the videos and the woodwork and learning so much. So charming.
I'm so glad you're enjoying it! 😊
It is a beautiful transformation! Another ugly duckling to swan masterpiece! I can imagine the comfort of sitting in front of that roaring fire on a cold and snowy Canadian winter day, perfect! 👌👌👌
I'm so glad you like it! 😊
Tha’ts quite the transformation. I love it and I know you will love relaxing with that beautiful fire.
I can't wait! 😄
I'm running out of words to describe how awesome your work is ❤
I appreciate that!!
So lovely and will be a beautiful addition to your relaxation room! Peaceful, simple, elegent💕
I think so too! Thank you so much for watching! 😊
I’m 69 and had a blond MCM bed set when I was growing up…and yes I had the bookcase headboard. I used to put my pajamas in the cubbies covered by the door! This turned out so elegant…you always make something from nothing!
I'm so glad you like it! 😊
You do such an amazing job with all of those projects ❤
Thank you so much!! 😊
"Wow" falls short of what this project deserves!
Many thanks! 😊
I had one of these as a kid. A gem of a transformation.
Many thanks!
Wow! You made it look as if it was meant to be a fireplace. I never would have guessed it was made from an old discarded headboard. It's so chic and smart looking. Kudos!
Thank you kindly! 😀
I'm so impressed with the reveal.
I'm glad you like how it turned out!
what a beautiful piece and creative idea. Clearly this did not belong in the trash. Thank you for saving so many pieces from the trash.
You're so welcome! 😊
Absolutely gorgeous transformation! Love the fabric inserts, and that lovely warm walnut color is perfect with the black and the fireplace insert. Excellent work as always, Angie!
I'm so glad you like it!!
WOW - enjoy the peaceful time in front in your elegant fireplace.
Thank you, I definitely will!
what an idea. It's so stylish. As a child I had a bookcase headboard. memories.
A fire surround from a headboard. How clever. And it turned out lovely.
Thank you very much! 😊
Wow! Truly a beautiful creation.
Thank you so much 😀
OMG! In a million guesses, I don’t think I ever would have guessed how that started! You sure met your goal of making it cozy and classic. Stunning. Brava!!
I'm so glad you like it! 😀
I hope you have many years of sitting close by and gazing into that fireplace and letting things drift. I thank you for the video and allowing us to decompress to your incredible talent.
You're incredibly welcome!! 🤗
If you're reading this, you're awake right now.
Unless you're sleep reading.
I grew up with one of these and I would have NEVER thought this could be the second life for an old headboard. Brilliant!
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
That's one piece you should be very proud of!! It was meant to be that it sat in storage for a long time then you tossed it out and no one wanted it you brought it back in from possibly being rained on to finally you having a vision for it. Then worked your magic and gave it a brand new life! It looks beautiful😊 I'm sure it'll look really nice in your relaxing room once you get to redo that. I'm happy for you.
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
This is an amazing up cycle of something that would’ve ended up in the trash. It looks so elegant. A much richer looking electric fireplace than the kind you buy for decor.
I appreciate that! Thank you!! 😊
You have a great imagination to be able to take a bedroom headboard and turn it into a fireplace. Just a beautiful piece!
Thank you so much! 😊
Wow Angie..what a transformation..you are a bloody star
Awe, thank you so much! 😊
I think it came out really nice. I like how you rescue old furniture and give it a second life. Thanks!
You're very welcome! ☺️
My sister and I shared our parents’ hand-me-down headboard like this in the mid-70s. This definitely brought back some memories! What a neat repurposing and beautifully done as always.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, when you repurpose you really repurpose. This turned out gorgeous and it didn’t hit the landfill. Winner for sure.
Thank you very much! 😀
WOW! What a cool transformation and great way to repurpose a piece that apparently no one wanted! It’s beautiful! I bet Mr Nacho is going to love curling up in front of that….only on his breaks of course. 😂
😂😉 Of course!
Wow! That is one of the coolest transformations of any video on TH-cam. You have inspired me to take a beginner woodworking course . Presently my efforts only manage to sanding , staining or painting . I’m pleased with my efforts but your wonderful teaching style has encouraged to take on more projects . I also have to keep in mind enthusiasm and skill level are on the same page. Please keep up producing these wonderful videos of your talented work.
I definitely will Arlene! Enjoy your course!
Well done you for not giving up on this piece .....you have worked your magic once again ......stunning xxxx
Thanks Sally! 😀
Absolutely fantastic! What a wonderful way to see this repurposed!! You do such wonderful work!❤😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
I wish I could find a headboard like that that is usable as a headboard. What a marvelous remake.
I'm so glad you like it!
My family had one of those headboards! This took imagination and skill, and looks beautiful. Never would have looked at that and seen an elegant fireplace. The fabric looks good too. Take a bow!
I'm so glad you like it!
It is always a pleasure watching someone work on wood, with the attention to detail on every aspect of a piece. Not only is this a creative repurpose that is useful, but is absolutely beautiful! I really like this piece…OMG! 😳 I think I’m jealous!!!❤
I'm so glad you like how it turned out!
I will never look at one of those again in the same way!The transformation is incredible!
I'm glad I could give you some fresh eyes!
Wow!!! This is truly beautiful!!!! What a makeover and a GREAT IDEA to turn it into a fireplace!!! Absolutely LOVE IT!
I'm so glad!! 😀
So proud of you for saving this Angie! Very lovely and clever!
Thank you very much! 😀
I think it’s a fabulous transformation ❤
Thank you!!
One of those long linear fireplaces would be beautiful.
I would never have guessed this was ever a headboard. Phenomenal job.
Thank you so much! 😊
Beautiful as always!
Thank you kindly! 😀
That headboard was in my grandparent's bedroom. The little tables with legs spread to the sides. Anthurium plant on one of them. Orange curtains with those brown circles on them. I believe the same floof orange blanket on the foot end. We sleep under eiderdowns as it can get bloody cold here. You made it a modern statement. Love, love it. A bit of memory lane there
Beautiful! Your talent for "seeing" how to re-purpose furniture into other uses is awe inspiring.
Thank you so much! 😊
You are so inventive! As always, this piece that wasn’t loved has been reworked and is now a wonderful addition to your beautiful home!
Thank you very much! 😀
Just wanted to mention here that I recently rescued a little teak dresser from a container near my house! I patched some holes and oiled her up and all along I was thinking about how you've inspired me, Angie! It was my first time and it shows but I love it so much!
That is wonderful to hear! Thank you so much for watching! 😊
You hit it out the park again. What a fantastic restoration and transformation.
Thank you very much! 😀
When I grow up, I want to be you with craftsmanship! It's a shame I am older than you now, though....lol. Another stunning piece, Angie.
I'm so glad you like it! 😊
Your creativity, whilst respecting the original piece is unmatched. GORGEOUS!
Thank you very much! 😀
I love it. Whoo hoo it's beautiful. Great job Angie.
Thank you Cheryl!
Two things -- 1. I like the woodgrain showing between the sliding doors. 2. Would love to see a video on your take on color. The stains and pigments you use are really eye catching and the way they match the paint you use never disappoints. (Oh, and 3. I am sure the cats will be so grateful that you built this for them. :D )
Thank you so much for watching! I'll keep the video request in the back of my mind but I try to explain my decisions as I go, and I'm not sure an entire video on colour choices would fly but I will definitely think about it!
What a wonderful way to repurpose this piece. Again, you are so creative!
I appreciate that! 😁
What a great idea. Mom surprised me with a maple bookshelf bed in the mid 50s. I felt really special. It was solid wood.
That is awesome!
Wow Angie, this is stunning. Taking something simple and making it a statement piece. I love when you talk through what you’re doing and why, I learn so much from you. You have a very calm voice, that is super relaxing. Enjoy your relaxation room and the beauty of your new fireplace.
Thank you very much Robyn! 😀
Ohmygoodness ❣️. Absolutely stunning and classy👍😎. Another huge save, Angie! So glad you get to enjoy it 🤗
Thank you so much! 😊
Wow! That's an incredible reuse! Beautiful!
Thank you so much! 😊
Oh my goodness! That is an amazing transformation 😮
I'm so glad you like it! 😊
I really enjoy your channel. Woodworking was an elective class when I was in junior high school. It was really a lot of fun for me. Unfortunately, I didn't stick with it and began working with computers instead. Your furniture flips are just mind-blowing. Wherever you get your inspiration from, you are truly blessed to have it. Thanks for allowing me to experience woodworking again vicariously.
You are so welcome!! 😊
Angie...O M G!!! This is absolutely breathtaking, your talent never ceases to amaze and so appreciate you sharing it with us. This might be one of my all time favorite pieces. ♥♥♥
Many thanks! ☺️
Angie, you have done it again! This is LOVELY!! Just simply lovely! My goodness, how creative you are! Great job!!!
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
Really lovely. What a great idea. It looks like it was originally built just for that purpose. Someone seeing it for the first time would never guess that in its former life it was a headboard. Great job!
Many thanks! 😊
Having the right tools, a space and time is awesome. You are great at this.
What an AMAZING REPURPOSING! I love this fireplace! Maybe paint the back middle panel black? The wallpaper is so mid-century! GORGEOUS! These are the cutest furniture feet ever! Enjoy it! Thanks so much for sharing
You're welcome!
Absolutely beautiful Angie! Love the fireplace and how it turned out. Most people would never know it’s a headboard.
Thanks so much! 😀
Looks new again and the fireplace and the headboard look like they were made for eachother. They go together like peanut butter and jelly.
I'm so glad you like it! 😀
Wow!😳 Brilliant, imaginative and clever use of something unwanted. Brava Angie, well done indeed. I want one! 👍🤗.
I'm so glad you like it! 😀
