I make my melts with paraffin and soy combinations. The combo helps with the increased scents and greatly solidifies the melts.
Hi Jaye. What is the ratio of paraffin to soy wax you used for your wax melts?
@@ahmmadshukrie4977 10% Paraffin
Thank you so much for also mentioning grams and celsius. I spend a lot of time converting imperial to metric. Love your videos. So informative!
@Stanley Handcrafted. We were all one day beginners including your self. What fascinates me the most about your videos Stanley is that you explain everything very clearly for those of us who are half-beginners. I would like to know if you have any video explaining the step by step for the first sale in:
Thank you for generously sharing your professional wisdom and expertise. Appreciate your work very much. Mucho Gracias
Yay! I love wax melts! Thank you for sharing.
Hi..loved ur video..very informative n helpful. I am new in candle business. I mostly use hard iran paraffin wax and soft paraffin wax for my candles. I want to try to make melts now.
Can you suggest how to store the melts ..and how long can i store it ?
I love the videos you post, thank you for them!! It really helps out first timers figure out the process for never doing it before. If you were melting wax for only 1 clam shell... how much wax and FO would be needed? Do you add the dye at the same time as the FO? Thank you!
Hi Jeff; how do you package and label your shot cups?
I’m so glad you said not to put wax melts in a Ziploc bag. Wish I had seen your video before I made a whole bunch of wax tarts because I put all of them in gallon size bags. If I am using silicone molds, how can I store them? When I go to sell them, what can I put them in to keep the fragrance?
I have a problem with my tealights, it might be a common issue, I am testing my tealight and melts, If I put a melt in my warmer The tealight will burn great till it is out of wax, Hot throw is awesome, I am using 464 with 8% fragrance. if I stop the tealight then try to burn it later, It just doesn't want to burn much at all.
How long after you make wax melts do you need to sell them? Can you start a bulk collection of them until your ready to sell? In the clamshells
Hi Jeff - I am based in the UK. So cant find the wax you refer to - but I have found a pure paraffin (container wax) that I will use for candles - can I also use that for melts - or do I need to use a pillar blend? I want to create discs and shapes about 5cm by 1 cm? Thanks in advance, I really enjoy your video's.
Thank so much for all your video's and very helpful info. With all the different types of waxes for melts, how do you know which type of pots will melt them correctly? Surely you don't have to purchase a tone of them to test out. Also what kind of label and size fits this packaging? I'm still researching before I start.
Hi Jeff I've heard that parrifin wax might be harmful to the body n that's why everyone went to soy wax. I would think by this time any harmful ingredients would be removed. Could you tell me if there's any concern or is it perfectly safe because I'd like to try parrifin wax for my melts. Thank you so much
Hi Standley, have you tried adding stearic acid on your melts? Will it really up the scent?
I would love to know this too! Please share!
Thank you for this informative video, i am just curious if we can reuse the old wax melts in making a new wax melts with the same.or different scent? Thank you
HI! I love your videos and have learned a lot. I bought this wax for melts and got zero hot throw. Any suggestions?
Thanks Jeff very good how too, explanation is always through. Have a dumb question, I poured some palm wax the other day and what’s the best way to clean the wax out of the container to go to a different scent/wax? Thanks again, enjoying your videos!
Phillip LaMaire Thank you! I heat my pitchers back up so I can wipe the wax and scent out.
Sorry, I just watched your other one that showed how you did it. Thanks for the reply!
hi and thanks for making this video, please may i ask, what fragrance load would you recommend for 100% coconut wax and also what type of wick would you recommend for coconut wax container candles with a diamiter of both, 2.1/2 inch and a 3.1/2 inch container? thanks, much love from the uk xxx
Hi I loved the video! What fragrances do you recommend for a beginner? Thank you
Hi Jeff! I’ve tried the IGI 4625 and made wax melts. Many of them kind of sunk in. What could have caused that? I’m heating up to 180° and pouring around 170°.
If you pour cooler, around 155 you will less of a dip. That is caused by the wax shirking as it cools.
Standley Handcrafted ahhhh that makes sense! Will try again!
Another great and detailed video im subscribing and 👍 all the videos i see keep up the great work if no else is thankful i am . thanks for making these videos
Barrington Newman Thank you so much for watching and the sub!
Good video, thanks for sharing, What is the total burn time for the packaged wax melts?
How did your wax melts come out? I recently used the 4625 in some clamshells. I feel like the wax is super hard and difficult to remove.
I tried your 6006 and 4625 blend as well but the oils were squeezed out. 10%FO.
I even tried a 50/50 blend of 6006 and 4625, 10%. That was better but it didn’t have much snap. 😕
Thanks for a lovely tutorial. Which labels are you using please?
Thanks for the informative video. I put my wax tarts in a zip lock bag after they have hardened. I have been so disappointed because after they cure and melt them they do not have a strong smell and I use a parasoy wax and I use the max fragrance load. Now I am wondering after listening to your video if the bag is taking the fragrance. The cold throw is great but not the hot throw. Thanks again, I love your videos!!!
You definitely need to get a different bag. Ziploc bags will take the sent out of the tarts. You need a poly propylene bag
Hey there, what are the dimensions of your clamshells and label size if you don’t mind me asking 😊
Have you compared the IGI4524 to Ky Para-Soy Tart & Votive Blend? They both take 6%. The KY brand comes as granules easy to use. It does have soy. I would love to get your opinion on the scent throw and the scent duration.
Please suggest which wax come best soy Or paraffin.. I hv just started candle making at home.. So I wanna try this wax melt plz ll wait for ur reply
Love ur videos ❤️ I have a question Do u color ur wax & if so wat do u use?
I don’t color my candles but when I test colors I like Natures Garden liquid dyes.
@@StandleyHandcrafted Thank u 🙂
Hi.. I just strarted listening to your how to videos and you are ver imformative! I am new yo candle busines and foing okay, but I trying to cut cost . Would you please give me the name of companies I can use for 8, 12, and 16 oz jars please
chantell Johnson www.candlescience.com is a great sure
Hello there! I just wondering if i can mix 4625 paraffin with 464 soy or 6006 paraffin for jars.
Currently using Joy Wax for my candles in 8oz jelly jars. The candles turn out great but I am wondering if using this wax I would get wax better scent throw both cold and hot. My candles will fill up a bathroom but not too much after that. Any advice would be much appreciated! Keep kicking butt bro
Hi lots of info thanks . Does the color of wax differ with different fragrances ? Haven’t made any yet . Newbie! I’m so tired of store bought scents , They just don’t last 😳
Unless you color them yourself you will notice a slight color change with fragrance oils that contain vanillin. Anything with vanillin will turn the wax a yellowish or brownish color.
Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy them. I have been learning all I can and now I feel I am ready to make candles. Can any fragrance that I use for soaps be used in candles? How will I know if it is ok? Thank you, Pat
Hey Jeff! Got a question. How long do you let your wax melts cure for? Also, how is the fragrance throw on this type of paraffin? I’m having a hard time with using soy blend and trying to keep everything in stock because I’ve got to wait for so long for them to cure. I just need to find something that cures fast and has an excellent scent throw
The hot throw with paraffin is great. I let them cure for 24 hours and they are nice and strong.
If you;re using a soy blend like 6006 you don't need to let those cure any longer than 2-3 days at most.
Standley Handcrafted Thanks! I use EcoSoya Q230. I’ve tried the 6006 but it was too soft. Do you have any idea on the cure time for Q230?
Mrs. A Curing times are always debated. I’ve heard people say one day I’ve even heard people say a few months.
I have cured mine for 4days and 4 weeks and I’ve barely noticed a difference.
I cure my soy for 7-10 max.
Standley Handcrafted Thank you! Not sure when you updated your website but it looks fantastic! Your photos are superb! 👍🏼
Jeff you mentioned if you put these wax melt into a ziplock bag the scent will be pulled out of them. Is that true for cellophane bags too? I make teacup candles and was planning on packaging them in cellophane bags tied at the top, but will this leach the scent out?
Michelle Archuleta Tes you will want to get polypropylene bags for melts. 🙂
Can u tell me if this particular wax is the best to use for not only the clamshells but also for sylicone molds and bags that say u can put wax melts in? I'm so confused on what perfect wax to use thats not too soft and not to hard. Also can u explain the (curing) to me? Sorry for all the questions. Ive been looking online for 2 weeks and still not found the answers. Lol, I really love your lables where did u get them made at?
I love it! where do you get your clear labels from if you don't mind my asking?
Not at tall, I buy mine from Office Depot. Avery #22822 :)
I'm using Candle Science's new MP 137 paraffin wax to make wax melts. I add 6% fragrance oil and I've done it anywhere from 170 to 185 (Candle Science's recommendation) but I'm having trouble getting a good hot throw. Any tips?
For melts I would add more oil if you can. Unless the wax is a really hard paraffin you can add a little more oil that suggested.
@@StandleyHandcrafted I'll try that. Thanks.
You say the wax if fully open at 180f. Do you happen to know at what temp is begins to close? I have been trying to find that out.
Vickie Caldwell for paraffin it seems to be close to 150-145
do you know what it is for gb464?
Vickie Caldwell 464 starts to solidify around 115-105
Hi Jeff. Question. I am a super newbie, so yesterday I tried following this exactly. Same wax, same amount of FO and same temps for everything. The only thing I did different was to add a dye chip. They looked great when poured but now almost 24 hours later they seem to be oily on top (too much FO?) and they look mottled instead of solid color. Any clue what I did wrong? Thanks!
Just saw this one on the facebook page. :)
How do you do custom scents to ratio of wax and how to ship, without losing smell
How do you wrap shots?
Hi Jeff! Thank you for sharing this. If I were to make a para-soy wax blend what ratio would you use? I watched your how to candle making video and you mentioned a 70:30 paraffin to soy wax ratio. Would wax melt tarts then be similar? Also what fragrance load? Thank you Jeff for sharing all of your helpful knowledge and how to video's!!
Susan Tavares Thank you so much.
You could definitely get nice melts with the 70/30 ratio. I’ve made them before with very good results.
For mixing waxes you can do any ratio but the more paraffin you have in the ratio the stronger the scent you will get.
I would play around with a few mixes and see what comes out well for you.
is there a reason most preblended parasoys only have a paraffin max % of 70%?
Vickie Caldwell You I’m not too sure why that was the golden ratio. I’ll have to see what I can dig up. 😁
Love your videos. Where do you find polypropylene wax melt clamshells?
I’m not sure CS are....
Thank you so much.
As for clamshells, I have bought them from Lone Star, Candle Science and Maple Street before. All great options. :)
Hey Jeff maybe you can help me with the differences between igi 6006 and 6098. Like with heat to temps and pour temps or anything else. Just not alot of info on 6098
Gary H I haven’t actually used 6098 yet, I’ll have to grab a sample block and do some testing. Sounds like good stuff. 😃
Where did you get the wax shot cups at
What wax is best for using with silicone molds? I have tried some waxes but they stick.
Look What I Got Paraffin waxes that are made for tarts and melts are best. Paraffin tends to harden up more than any other wax and pulls away from the molds really well.
Hello im new to making wax melts but i've watched a few TH-cam videos so i think im comfortable making them. My question to you is? I bought BLENDED WAXES® PILLAR SOY WAX (BW-921) from candle science Is this a good wax to use and does it hold the scent good??
What percentage was the fragrance load?
Great videos. They are very informative. Love them all.
450g wax. 28g of fo. 82deg. Cool to 76 deg add fo mix for 2 min to 71deg and pour
Freakin awesome, love it thank you Jeff
hello Standley Handcrafted how are you what kind of wax the best wax for making wax melts with the molds or making wax melts? can i use soy wax?
Do you like the 4625 for melts? Right now I'm doing 464 Soy for everything, but I'm going to be switching to 6006 for containers, and I was thinking of doing 4625 for clamshells. Have you done color in them? Or have you found that it makes a difference at all? In soy, I find I get more frosting with color versus without color. Also, this is more of a 6006 question, what wicks do you prefer for it? Sorry for all the questions! I love your videos! :) thanks Jeff!
I use 6006 for containers and just got some 4625 for melts. I am finding that i like to mix the two together to get best of both worlds. And I upped the fragrance load to 8%.
Marcia Shields hi, what are the percentages in the mix? And are you doing 1.28oz on the fragrance?
Hey Jeff! When you print your labels, doesn’t the ink rub off? Do you use an inkjet or a laser printer?
Mrs. A I use a Canon laser and they don’t rub off at all 🙂
Standley Handcrafted yep! That’s what I thought! I’m going to need to make the switch! I’m having to spray my labels with a sealer 😐 Thanks for the super quick reply!
Mrs. A My pleasure! 🙂
Hi how many clam shells do you normally ge out of a pound of wax? Thank you
how do you fix that sinking in the middle of the tarts?
Have you tried the igi 4611 Wax? What is it best for
I make melt-and-pour soaps occasionally using my microwave. Is there any way I can use a microwave to melt wax for wax melts?
How many of each type of container does 1lb of wax fill?
Elizabeth Riepenhoff Microwave isn’t a good option because you can’t control the temperature and you also run the risk of burning the wax.
With one pound of wax I can fill seven of the clamshells.
Hi Jeff: Do you allow cure time for your wax melts and candles? Thank you :o)
coupon_rican_diva I do.
For paraffin, 24 hours
Parasoy 2-3 days
Soy 10-14 days
Thank you Jeff. This helps a lot :o)
Hi Coupon Rican Diva lol. I follow you on IG for couponing and more lol. What a small world ^_^
Hey Sweetheart :o)
👍
Hey Stanley! This video was extremely helpful. I've been making candles but this is my first time trying the wax melt. Is there any wax you recommend for the melts that does not come in a slab? I live in a tiny apt so hard to mash up lol
Use paraffin igi 4630
Can I use candy molds to make the wax melts in?
They’re a little stiff but they do work
Jeff 3 questions:
How many wax melt packages do u get with 1lb of wax?
How long do they have to cure?
What size label is this
Latonya Tinch I get seven clamshells from one pound.
Latonya Tinch Or thirteen shot cups
Thanks Jeff also what size label is that
GM what size label are you using for clamshell and cup? Also how much do u suggest selling clamshell for and do you sell cups as a set and how much? Sorry so many questions. Just lost my FT job so I need to perfect these candle so I can start selling them and it is not working I can't get a good hot throw
No problem at all, ask away!
I use Avery 22822, 2X4 labels.
What size of label do you use? I remember you said in a video but I can not find it.
I am looking for the same info. Jeff has a candle page on fb DIY candle making you may want to check that out.
When I put the name on the candle, can I use the exact name on the FO bottle or do I have to come up with my own
where do you place the warning label with your clear melts labels?
On the inside if possible
Where did you get the paper for your labels?
I always see people on the diy page saying to add anywhere from 10-20% for melts. Do you find any significant difference between using the 1oz/1lb vs. higher percentages like 10+?
I am also curious on this! Hoping to get his advice/opinion!!
Hello,
I am a learner currently.
Could please tell me the difference between candle tarts and wax melts
Thank you
They are the same thing. You can call them tarts or wax melts
How many of the 6 cavity clamshells does one pound of wax make?
With the wax I use...made for melts and votives, 4794 I use 1 oz to 1 lb ratio. Using this, it makes 6 separate 6 compartment clam shell containers filled completely to the stop, over the dividers. There are times, due to the FO weight vs volume level, you will have a tad more scented wax than the containers will hold. Just throw that into a different melt mold or as a lot of us do, pour that overage into another pot, and keep adding and adding and adding it to it, then when you get enough you can make a " Candle Shop " scent or use it to make fire starters.
Keep in mind that not all clamshells are the same size.
What temp do you recommend adding fragrance oil? I’m using igi4625 wax
It’s best to add at higher temps, typically between 180-170f
Love the labels! Where do you get yours from?
Thank you! I designed and print them myself. :)
@@StandleyHandcrafted awesome! What paper do you use?
Can u cling wrap them to keep the smell
No cling wrap will actually draw out the smell. You need to have approved plastic for them.
Thank u I been learning alot from you
Is it FL Oz? Or oz weight Wise my scale is confusing me
Weight by oz, weight. :)
How long do they have to cure for?
Hi Jeff! What size are your labels?
Hi, At what temp do you add the scent please
He told you in the video at what temp to add it
I’m just getting into candle making which soy way do you recommend for first time users. Or which wax in general would you recommend?
I would recommed a parasoy blend for starting out. IGI6006 is a parsoy blend and it is much more forgiving for beginners. You will get a much nice scent throw when burning than you will with soy initially. Soy is a tricky one and can be a little frustrating in the beginning.
Where did you get your name labels?
What's a good soy wax for melts?
Those shot cups/souffle cups that you used, which brand are they? I have a ton of those and I believe they are solo cups.
I will check but I believe they're the Solo brand
Can I use this wax in containers?
With paraffin wax for wax melts does it still over release all of those harsh chemicals since it is not technically burning.
kerio Masters I could not say for sure whether or not the chemicals are released. I would imagine it’s much safer since there is no flame and nothing coming off other than fragrance.
Standley Handcrafted ok thank you
Hey Jeff! Since you’re using straight paraffin, do your melts break apart easily? I’ve used 6006 and they weren’t hard, at all.
Mrs. A No the paraffin stays solid like a rock. Lol. I’ve used the 6006 as well and it’s very soft. If I use 6006 I make them in small single use cups
Standley Handcrafted thank you! I have a comfort blend paraffin....I’m gonna try that! I hate waiting weeks for the soy wax to cure!! Thanks again!!
Did you make your labels yourself?
La Gina Woodard Yes I designed all of mine 🙂
Hi Jeff,
What size labels do you use for the clamshells?
Thank you
California Cakeface I use Avery 22822 clear labels. 🙂
California Cakeface 2x4
What is the cure time for this wax in tarts and shot cups specifically
Cari Shields for paraffin 24 hrs
WHERE DO WE GET THE SHOT CUPS THX
They can be ordered online, I get them locally at Cash & Carry.
Walmart
Hey, Jeff Will Beeswax work for making candle melts? I wouldn't mind giving it a shot as Beeswax already has a nice little natural smell to it.
Good info bro
Hi, thank you for your videos. I just started making wax melts and I have noticed that there is a change in color. Even my wax melts with no coloring seem to have what I will call dry spots along the bottom and sides. I have been using ecosoy and pouring around 126 degrees. What am I doing wrong? I am using the same containers as you do in this video. Thanks
How long do you let it cure for ?
Amor Hernandez 24 hours for paraffin.
Is that with the Lid closed? also in regards to color what do you recommend the liquid or the color blocks for paraffin wax? in regards to the soy the same question comes to mind I know since soy is more of a natural oil is it good for candles and what should I use to color it?
Is it true that for 1 lbs of wax use 6 drops of liquid coloring? sorry for all the questions, I have so many questions at once.
Please ask all the questions you like, I will answer what I can. :)
I close the lids on the clamshells once they harden (an hour or so) then let them sit closed.
I like the wax dye blocks, they see, to blend really well and since it's a wax they tend to mix nicely.
As for liquid coloring I haven't used those too much so I don't know if they have an amount that's better to use.
Hi jeff, at what point would you add color? Would you use mics or some other kind of colorant?
AWESOME!! XOXO JUSBUTTER
Has anyone tried using a heat knife to break up the paraffin? If so, does it work well?
I use a hammer and it works perfect every time.
Thank you!
Thanks for converting the temperatures to centigrade, I always forget Americans use fahrenheit and get confused!
Nay M I had so many people ask for them, I’ll do them in all video from now on
Hi!
Thanks for the video and telling the celcius also!! 😁
The fragrance is how much in % in the ones you did?
I used 10% in these. :)
Standley Handcrafted the type you used of wax is listed as the most is 6% fragrance.
Im looking at making 12% or more and use vybar.
Do you use that in your melts to get more fragrance?
My apologies, I did use only 1oz in this set up. You can also use IGI6006 for melts and it holds more FO.
Hey Jeff did you switch over to using paraffin for everything and if so why,i am trying 444,igi6098 and 1275 from candlesandsupplies.net but i also thought of trying straight paraffin since they say that all waxes give of the chemicals shoot they say even artificial trees give of the chemicals lol
Gary H I use paraffin for the melts and 6006 for my candles.
I hear different things for all waxes so I have no preference really. 🙂
Hi Jeff, what size labels do you use for your melts? I always think I order the right size but I never get it right
