    truly brilliant. & btw, nobody would have given the head's millimetre-imperfect position a 2nd thought if you hadn't mentioned it, you're an artist, heads move, it's a design feature!

    What I love about the Addams mansion is how your artistic style matches so perfectly Charles Addams' original whimsically macabre artwork and color palette. It's so fun and perfectly done. Excellent. Love seeing the mansion's history and progress!

    I don’t think I will ever make an Iron Maiden but I can see how this technique could be used making many things like maybe water fountains or lamp base or metal vase and I’m sure more. Thank you for the video!

    This is exactly the type of miniaturist I would love to "grow-up" and become. I got the miniature bite a few months ago, ran into your blog, went to my library, borrowed a mountain of books started a chair out of very stiff paper and not even a 1/4 of the way through got very discouraged, threw the project out, never restarted, returned all the books and have stayed away from anything miniature in store or EBay/Etsy since. I'm beyond impressed how incredible your entire project came out. Makes me dream that one day, boy I hope, that I too have this exquisite dollhouse filled with exquisite things and everything or nearly everything made by me.

      Charlie thank you for this amazingly sweet comment. Please don't give up! You have inspired me to make a "Tips for beginning Miniaturists" video for anyone struggling to get started! I am really here to help and want to share my ups and downs of getting started with you guys. I threw away many projects when I first started out! I still do occasionally! There is definitely a learning curve but if you can find the part of miniatures you enjoy the most the learning curve can be fun. Stay tuned for a video inspired by this comment (in the next couple months I hope!) Thank you again! -Ara

      Charlie Dale, don't give up. It's such a wonderful, fun, creative hobby. And yes, it is addictive. The more miniatures you make the better you get. Their are so many talented people that share their experience with us on youtube. Good luck.

      Charlie Dale Charlie, your comment made me sad. Don’t give up. I never worry about mistakes and starting projects over because it is all a journey and opportunity to learn and improve. Find your inner perfectionist. Try and try again.

    • @Annejuli
      @Annejuli 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't give up yet Charlie, I know you can improve. I make miniature food out of polymer clay. My first attempt was a disaster! It looked like a small child made it. I'm glad that I persevered as the food I make now is very realistic and satisfying to make. I'll bet that if you tried to make that chair again it will be better than the first one and the one after that will be even better. The old adage that practice makes perfect really applies here. Keep at it and you'll be happily making minis that you are proud of in no time :)

      I know it has been a while since you posted this comment, but I just saw this video and I, too, just started doing miniatures as well. I make furniture for my wife's dollhouse. I hope that you didn't give up completely, and are still doing them. They are fun and addictive.

    Fabulous, as always. I love your work the most. Might I suggest replacing the flour in your mixture with plaster of paris? It's awesome, I recently did a "tree-stump" project with it, and I love it. Mix it thin for the paper-towel technique, then mix a thicker batch to replace the wood-filler, or make it thick enough to model with! It dries hard as a rock, and has a nice texture to take paint. I find it more convenient than pre-made filler, which always ends up drying up in the container on me. I only make as much as I'm going to use, and it's easy to clean up.

  • @aimmyarrowshigh

    This is so amazing! I never would have thought to use wood filler and wood glue to create a "metal" surface.

    Clever technique! I always love the way you come up with these ideas, and obscure media to produce your miniatures.
    Incidentally, not to take away from your design by any means, but did you know that the Iron Maiden, as you have created, was never really used at any time in history? It is purely myth and fantasy. Such a device would not have tortured someone, it would have killed them. The only thing that comes close was a device created back in the 500's (I think) that had small spikes that lined the maiden, so that someone placed inside would have to stand upright. Any movement from side to side, or front to back would have caused pain. The idea was to cause sleep deprivation to "lull" them into confessing, or die from sleep deprivation. Just thought I would mention that as a sort of History lesson.
    As always ... Have a better day!

      Thank you so much Sean... it find it fun trying to figure these things out... like a big puzzle. I had heard that the Iron Maiden was a myth but thank you for the further information on its actual origins! The whole torture device era is so interesting to study... and a bit disturbing! lol

    This was ridiculously creative and really simple - who'd of thought? In case you couldn't tell, I'm new to your channel and I've got some catching up to do! Love the creative share :)
    Q: I sculpt using polymer clay - not just charms and jewelry but also actual sculptures (up to 7"). I've never used paper clay before, it looked wet (there was a sheen to it). Is it? What was the dry time? I have an idea of something I want to make but baking it would be a hassle based on the dimensions.

    I had to come back again & comment when I saw that YT in its infinite wisdom, has used its algorithms to conclude that fans of Iron Maiden, the iconic UK metal band of the 20th century, are the same people who like to craft miniature replicas of life-sized items for their dollshouses - just because you made this one 21stC replica of a 17thC concoction of a never-existed 14thC mediaeval torture device out of paper. Honestly, do they not do any research there at YT? PMSL!

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joanne Carroll hahahaha! Yes I had to be very specific in my search criteria when I was looking for references. Apparently rock bands are more popular than ancient torture devices.... who knew?

    • @joannecarroll5504
      @joannecarroll5504 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In that case, perhaps your views would increase dramatically if you were to add a soundtrack to this one - maybe including a mediaeval torture montage? I narrowed it down to 2 possible Iron Maiden tracks; 'Run to the Hills (Run for Your Life)' and '666 The Number of The Beast'. I really think though, it's gonna depend on whether Bruce Dickinson has a dollshouse or not. I DO know he holds a pilot's licence. (I haven't laughed so hard in ages)

      I think I become disheartened because I'm one of those crafters/artists that when I try something the very first time that it comes out in perfection, sellable perfection. That didn't happen at all. It threw me, as it was the first and so far only time it's ever happened. I see, embroider, cross stitch, paint, draw, knit, a 15 year home business of repairing old dolls, quilt, make clothes, jewelry, handbags and just now started junk-journaling. But miniatures I've loved since I was a little boy. Heck, I've always wanted a dollhouse, like forever.
