    And if you're wondering, I am likely gonna make videos on Shastacan and Solaria, since they are family to Eclipsa.

      As usual like everyone else Globgor was screwed over by the writing. However, he was actually important in helping to convince the people that he and Eclipsa are not evil.
      Also why you have to say he can die and nothing or real consequence would happen? Like wouldn't this have an impact on his wife and daughter or even Star? It not only makes you sound Misandric, but also Hypocritical especially when you say to like his character and that he's one of the few characters that are not terrible.

    With his pseudo Spanish accent its clear that globgor is supposed to be eclipsa's version of Marco so I think the biggest waste is that this was never developed
    Eclipsa is basically "what if star stayed irresponsible and self centered like in season 1 but she's also queen with reponseablities" so what if this version of globgor was more like Khal Drogo like kittymonk said just a rampaging barbarian that eclipsa likes because "hes a bad boy"
    Or going back to Marco, since a big thing in his character development is his fear of being left behind or being stuck doing the same thing for the rest of his life Marco and globgor can talk where globgor admits he *HATES* the soft vegetarian he's become but accepts it just to be with eclipsa (he could be sitting on eclipsa's lap just to drive the point home) and Marco has to reflect on his relationship with star as her adventure buddy/lap dog

    • @Rosemont104
      @Rosemont104 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      What you described kinda reminded me of the Doop Doop episode, where I think (though they didn't make it quite clear) that the writers planted the seeds for Tom dumping Star because he saw how she neglected her first spell and feared becoming another Doop Doop himself. As for Globgor being Eclipsa's Marco, they did nothing with it, indeed. They couldn't even follow through on the whole "Marco being the next Toffee" stuff hinted at in the first season.

    You know, I think that's a huge problem with svtfoe as a whole. None of the monsters had anything to say about their own oppression. None of them had any opinion about the reforms Star and Eclipsa enacted, none of them tried to stand up for themselves or make change... the monsters were just helpless dolls for the Mewman princesses to push around.
    Except maybe Toffee, and well... we know where that went.

      So true. It was a white savior story about a group of privileged liberals deciding what to do with the people their ancestors oppressed, rather than the oppressed themselves.

    • @galten7361
      @galten7361 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Pretty much. A lot of it has to do with how they made so much of the plot come from something that the actual protagonists (Star with Marco) are only either relevant to by proxy (Marco) or are established as ignorant towards (Star). It's even reflected in the villains where besides Ludo none of them had any real dynamic with Star as her nemesis (Toffee alone was far more of a nemesis towards Moon than Star, let alone Meteora and Mina).
      It's actually a big problem in fantasy stories with gods and demons and etc. where it's really hard to make all this big history with wars and cataclysms be really relevant to the protagonists when they aren't flat-out chosen ones rather than just them being ultimately just bystanders who the plot is rigged into following with lazy excuses for them to be important. RWBY is another example of this problem where the showrunners can't really figure out how to make the title characters be relevant enough to Ozpin's war on Salem which started millenniums or so before they were born and contains lore far above them but are too invested in them as the poster girls to just remove them from the story so we get cheap text dumps and Ozpin/Oscar launching cane nukes/telling how the instant win relic works to bail out the protagonists when they screwup and most telling of all having someone like Jacques get a meh sendoff when his job was done since he's not a villain who really fits well in current RWBY.

      @@galten7361 that is what happens when you have no idea how to write a fantasy world and lack enough experience as a writer. That’s why many writers say to start simple. Cause otherwise it will go bad real quick and you will make things that you didn’t notice were bad be worse. That is what happened to rwby. The writers didn’t have many shows under their belt to that extent and the lead director for the first part didn’t know how to write a whole show just scenes and self contained story. For star is the same. While her author did work in adventure time even adventure time had many flaws and it seems she never learned from it. That’s why now the AT author new show bravest warriors is so good. He learned what he did wrong and fixed it. • @jlwiseman98
    @jlwiseman98 2 ปีที่แล้ว +208

    Yes and no.
    I think he was necessary for eclipsa’s story, but he never really got to have much of his own or branch beyond that.
    Eclipsa having a monster husband, someone she loves, and was imprisoned wrongfully for loving is great to express the message they were going for in terms of wrongful judgment on mewni, imprisoning someone like Eclipsa just because she was in love with someone they didn't like makes us sympathize with her and how much the MHC villianized her because of their own biases.
    However, globgor himself just never got the time he needed to be his own character in the plot, he has an interesting backstory and set up to be a grey character whose made a lot of mistakes and the way others speak about him directly implies he killed a lot of people and hurt many more.....but that goes nowhere.
    The man loves Eclipsa, so all is forgiven, even though unlike Eclipsa, there was way more reason for mewni to actually fear globgor. Globgor actually made mistakes that are more rightfully seen as villainous from a mewman perspective.
    He had been working WITH Seth while also trying to convince him they would only go so far in the war, there was a complicated relationship there we never see.
    There was a lot of interesting buildup to globgor and in the end.....they kinda shove out his entire backstory. I'm not even sure why they tried to pretend he was evil, because I don't think the audience really saw the show making eclipsa’s husband evil after what happened in s3 with them proving that she was innocent. Making him evil would've just looked bad overall.
    Globgor had so much setup to be an interesting grey character but he's barely in s4 despite the buildup, is forgiven and accepted instantly in the mid finale, and we basically never see him much again after the fact.
    All the stuff he did is left hanging or treated like it didn't matter.
    He's fun, but his character feels like it never lived up to the hype and got what was promised to him.
    He serves to help eclipsa and they are cute together, but barely got to be his own person outside of that despite his set up. He's there so eclipsa can have her happy ending with him but that's mostly really it.
    I'm glad he's there, but I think for some so hypes up for s4, he's mostly a footnote in s4 with massive wasted potential despite how much he had going for him.

    To me; Globgor felt like Wasted Potential and nothing more and It's truly a pity cause we could've learned more about him on how he and Eclipsa truly met how they became Infamous to begin with behind the portrait but wouldn't be surprised they wanted to be feared In respect rather then seen as a joke.
    When I first saw him and hear of him; you except someone like Tim Curry, Mark Hamill, Jim Cummings, or even Kevin Michael Richardson (who Ironically voices another Infamous demon; Triugon) but surprisingly enough during the time It was Jaime Camil who did not only the voice of Panchito for Legend of the Three Caballeros and Don Karnage for Ducktales (2017) and at first was an amateur actor but Instead slowly began to grew on me and was relieved he wasn't one of those actors that didn't fit the role. Though In my opinion I kinda wish he had an Arabic (or Turkish) Accent ever since I saw the ritual dance when Star was trying to gain respect from The Spiderbites or as I mentioned earlier ago go to the voice choices I've mentions as the alternative but that could just be me.
    Unlike his wife; I honestly don't have much to say about him since he doesn't much materiel to work with but for the Coronation episode; Instead of rampaging through the castle to find his wife and daughter he Instead escapes and flees to hide from the High Magical Commission Instead when he said "I'm just trying to protect my wife and child" yet no difference they were gonna be crystallized Instead. Way to go O' Great Demon Majesty! 2nd; even In the worst final episode once he was healed up he doesn't give once a single "Thank You" let alone decides to spare Star and crew a favour by locking up Mina for good In a dungeon or squashed her like a bug for wounding him him and almost killing all the monsters which wouldn't been more satisfying to say the least though I won't be surprised the actor himself wasn't available during the time or ran out of money to give him his final lines. Lastly Instead of just being there as a background chilling back with his wife again or poses as a Deus Ex Machina Instead. Y'couldn't mind a few handful of episodes Involving him like one episode were he trying to be a good father and tries to catch up on the thing she missed out on, one episode where he's trying to gain respect of the Mewman but unlike his wife; calls them out for It for hurting his family not respecting them for so long as time as changed for them to adapt but never gotten a chance of fair respect while shows his more frighting side to him, maybe a few flashback episodes to flesh out the relationship, or even a parody/spoof on The Addams family Guest Starring Jana.
    Overall; some think he's unnecessary but to me he honestly deserves alot better outside of being wasted potential and like I said before If Starco wasn't the *main* focus or the entire Season 4 was rushed out without proper rewrite or time to develop what Globgor could've been we've couldn't gotten a decent Anti-Hero let alone Redeemable Demon who deserved better Including his wife and daughter. I'm still not surprised there *never* will be a Season 5 let alone a proper comeback revival of the series but don't be surprised they'll decided to reboot the entire show just like they with Kim Possible's movie and some things should be left behind unless there were actual deleted scenes that never made the final cut but that could just be me.

    Globgor was a very interesting guy. We should have a flashback episodes how Globgor and Ecplisa met.
    MHC were too stubborn to see Ecplisa and Globgor as good people. They hated the married couple and their daughter to the bitter end. The MHC paid the price for their hypocrisy and their betrayal.

      I have to assume Janna was either a fan favourite or a writers' favourite or both, so they kept adding her in episodes even though she had no reason to be. I get that "this random human girl just keeps showing up in our magical adventures and we've stopped questioning why" is a funny idea but she'd have to actually add anything of value for it to work and not get old quickly.

    Having a powerful character incapacitated during the final fight is such a lame trope, we get it they want to push other characters forward but why write this character into the story if you don't know what to do with them after. And it happens all the time like Wanda from the entirety of the first round of Marvel movies, the Halloween What If handled how her level of power would actually work in a conflict better.

    He's kind of pointless as a character. I think it's because he's meant to be a good guy. It kind of spoils any actual issues they could tackle with him. The option I think is probably the easiest would have been to make him a parallel to Tom. Maybe give them an episode together to actual do an episode about how they control their anger how fight to not backslide. There's also the more existential route of having him fight with his sense of identity in this new Era where he's completely unable to find a place to fit. Then again I think it would be better to have his pre eclipsa personality traits bubble up more since he's had centuries to stew in his emotions towards the MHC which would be an easy conflict creator.

    Okay so i actually did a lot of thinking about shastacan globgore and all that nonsense. The only way the timeline makes sense is if Eclipsa was crystalized and the MHC took Meteora to Shastacan (thinking it would be better to have her be raised by a mewman rather than a monster), but left Globgore free for some reason, only for him to eat Shastacan after he finds out he just threw Meteora away, thus leading to his own Crystalization.

The abandoned-Mewni-mindscape could've been the perfect base for flashbacks of their history together, using Globgor's first-hand memories to tell his part in the story, warts and all.

    You know something I noticed while watching the show, Globgor may very well be the last of his kind. Think about it. We never see ANY other Size-Shifters and during her reign as Queen, Solaria was hell bent on wiping monster-kind off the face of Mewni. The Size-Shifters would have been the biggest, no pun intended, roadblock to that. And the fact that they were known Mewman-eaters definitely didn't help this reputation nor lessen the targets on their backs. So more than likely, with the brutal magic of the Solarians Swords, they could have been the first race to be completely annihilated in the war.

  • @CreditR01
    @CreditR01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Globgor is another huge example of why consistency matters, is about all I can say. Two, maybe three whole episodes of the last season could have been used for far more engaging and relevant things, but the writers were too busy ramming Starco down our throats and reminding us that Toffee existed. You know, that guy who hasn't been relevant for ages by this point? (Sorry but I think Toffee is massively overhyped. I just think he had a Wesker effect on fans where he's not the type of villain you'd expect from this show. I don't count Seth at all because IMO if he's never mentioned in the show, he's not relevant enough to actually exist.)

    Globgor could have been handled better in a way to fit the narrative, the monsters not fighting for themselves and letting mewmans walk over them for years doesn't make much sense. Toffee should not have been the only one with a plan, where the hell is Seth ? I remember when svtfoe was still in season 1 or 2 and people made fanarts of Eclipsa and Globgor, picturing him as an actual monster where their love was more of curiosity and playfull banter to later love but still having both be what they were. A good way to give the monsters a good presence was to make Eclipsa be the Queen of the monsters, realizing how wrong the mewmans were and siding with them together with her husband, that would make the high commission be really betrayed and hate her justified. And upon coming back the monsters that accepted her as Queen began to arrive and star had to unite everyone
    Make Mina a crazy and SCARY dictator willing to kill everyone that don't fit in her view of living
    Make Globgor still be the king and that's why the monsters are scattered everywhere, make Seth be his second in command that was related to Toffe. On the story they only focused on the mewmans and very little of monster who where the problem of the situation but never let them speak or make anything, aside from Ludo's parent who were apparent the king but still never show or asks if he had any servants

    This is just my opinion but, I feel like the writers didn't know what to do with his character and kinda sort of gave up. I'm surr they could have thought about what to do with him that would give him more development but..didn't have any ideas at the time since this was the last season(I think? I don't keep track anymore), which is a common thing in shows where you have a lot of characters, or they were too lazy. I crapped on the writers enough while watching the show, but I'll just say they didn't know what to do at the time instead of being lazy. I still love Globgor and Eclipsa's relationship the most in this show. It kept me sane through all the chaos. I didn't finish the entire video yet before making this comment so something simular could have been said, but I just wanted to put my opinion here, and by the time this video came out, video essays didn't fit in my own busy schedule so... I'm trying to watch all of these.

All of the crazy, wild narrative beats and questionable characters are put in place to throw audience expectations askew, but it’s clear that’s just all the writers want to do."
