    And when we told her to upgrade, she said that it „still works completely fine“ and after finally upgrading to a new phone she „can‘t actually tell any difference in performance“! This absolutely shocked my mind, especially since the phone was also still running the Android 4 Jelly Bean OS.

    When I heard you were trying Android 10 on that phone I got so curious how it would perform so I actually flashed it onto my old Galaxy SII ;-) It actually worked better than I expected though the battery-life like you mentioned is rather poor and there's no fast way to charge it. However if my main phone were to break I could honestly use the Galaxy SII until I get a replacement since it does the small necessary things though not especially fast.

    I was really happy with my S2 back then. Especially putting in a 32GB microSD and having USB-OTG host felt like a real computer in my pocket. Also it had MHL, meaning I could play N64 games on my TV using the S2 and a fake 8€ Bluetooth PS3 controller and 6€ MHL adapter ordered from DealExtreme. Also unlike the iPhone at the time it supported almost all Bluetooth devices, like keyboards and mice.
    When the S5 came out I got the S4 to upgrade and it felt like a good successor, I had the S4 until 2018, when I switched to my Honor 9 because Samsung got too expensive. More than 300€ for a two year old Samsung phone just wasn't worth it.

    I still can’t quite get my head around why the performance drops so drastically over time. This was a beast of a phone at the time, a s2 running as new would be a match for most budget phones running new now.

    • @FullMetalPanicNL
      @FullMetalPanicNL 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're underestimating how far budget phones have come. A Redmi Note 8t sports an 8 core CPU with 4 cores at 2Ghz and 4 at 1.8 Ghz. It has 4 gigs of RAM and 650 Mhz GPU.
      The SII has a 1.2ghz dual core, 1 gig of RAM and a 266 Mhz GPU.
      It was definitely a beast at the time, especially compared to Apples offering though. But budget phones have come far and have become decently powerful.
      I remember checking some budget phones back in the day and man, where those things sluggish as hell.
      The S2 wins it on price though as it's only about 5 bucks now. :D

    The good old LG G4 is a high end phone from 2015. Most phones still don't have as many pixels in the screen as this old thing does. It was the first phone with a 1440p screen and still works fine today so long as you don't plan on using the latest and greatest 3D gaming apps. Most work fine, but the Snapdragon 808 is showing its age. It does have 3 gigs of ram which today is still pretty good. It's amazing to think that these old phones are still usable today for almost all tasks years on down the line when it seems like you are told to upgrade every year or 2. It's going to be hard to give up user replaceable batteries that is for sure. Great video as always. Can't wait to see what phone you test out next!

    Just to add on battery life. Back in the day, I used a lot of android phones, and it is so simple to forget how fleeting was the battery life on them, should you use them for any demanding tasks. Anything utilising 3g, as in streaming youtube, any 3d games, etc would devour your battery in less than an hour, even on a brand new...ish phone. I do enjoy my Samsung Note 9, allowing me to work remotely for 8h now, and it seems to be a new standard, but older phones were not as good as we remember them to be. Anyways, thanks for your videos bud, I do enjoy them a lot, and keep up the good work!

    Fun fact, i had one of the earliest Android smartphones a LG GT540 Optimus.
    iirc it had something like 96mb of RAM, a MIPS cpu @ 600mhz and the equivalent of a "2d graphics accelerator" that being, not much of a gpu at all.
    It came with Android 1.5 and got updated when turned on for the first time to 1.6. Official support was up to 2.2.1 or something (i truly hated the old way of android updates) i got the phone mugged from me but i had a beta 5.0 running on it. I remember watching a 6.0 or a 7.0 rom available on 4PDA or HTC Mania.
    Even funnier was updating to the S II Advance just days before the phone was axed and the joint venture between Ericsson & Samsung ended.
