It's never too late to leave the situation you are in. There is so much help and support available to women now to help them leave at any age as long as they are ready to stand up to their abuser and not go back which is the hardest thing to do. I happen to be a survivor of dv and other forms of abuse, and I left and went on to marry a wonderful man whom I've been with now for over 25 years. There are many places that can help you when you are ready and able to safely take that step. You deserve to be loved, you deserve to have peace, you deserve to be happy; and if your husband isn't willing to do those things for you then it is time to take the steps needed to give yourself those things. My maternal grandma left her abusive ex-husband in the 1940s with a newborn, when there was no support available for women to leave; she was able to leave because she had a supportive family that was willing and able to take her and her son in after she left and filed for divorce. My maternal grandma eventually met and married my grandfather and they went on to have 4 children together (including my mom) and my grandfather treated my grandma's son from her first marriage exactly the same as he treated his biological children. They all knew how they deserved to be treated and they wouldn't tolerate anyone abusing any of their children, especially not their daughters when it came to life partners.

I had to long distance sell my father’s house thousands of miles away in Hawaii. I’d never done anything like that and dreaded it. But step by step I got it done with a huge team of people from a caretakers, the real estate agent, inspector, buyers, to everyone I had to contact along the way to get it legally done. I swear my brain grew and I was proud that I could still learn new things in my 60’s.

we have been in this house 47 years. we have done big work like roof, windows, air, furnace, porch. deck, but the kitchen…is 90 years old. we did the bathroom. and kids do not want a house that isn’t ready to move in. and we are too old to do anything that big. and it is a tiny house. beginning to think we simply need to do minimal stuff to allow us to live safely. To be honest we don’t want to live with a bunch of old people. We like living in the midst of families, of young and old people. the very idea of moving where there is no variety sounds horrible.
