Shock 'sloped roof' excuse leads to fresh criticism of Secret Service Director

- Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle has explained why agents were not stationed on the roof used by Donald Trump’s would-be assassin.
The director spoke to ABC News on Monday about the shooting and said a “sloped roof” was why agents were not on the building.
“That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof,” she said.
“And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside.”
Cheatle admitted the rooftop used by Thomas Matthews Crooks was a security vulnerability, yet it was still not secured.
Retired FBI supervisory special agent and Army veteran James Gagliano was confused by the director's reasoning.
“You just have to work with the terrain you’re presented with,” he said.
Worst excuse ever. Cheatle needs to go.

Probably almost minimum allowable ? looks less than 10deg. My roof is pretty much the same,- I'm 70 and have painted it recently with 6 coats with no safety measures required. More dangerous walking down my yard!

Governor Moore of Maryland named a police officer from Baltimore County with no game warden experience to head the Maryland Natural Resources Police. Now they are advertising for a new assistant supervisor. They are looking for police experience (not game warden experience). DNR police/Game warden jobs are the most difficult jobs to get in law enforcement with hundreds of people applying for a few openings and he is giving the top jobs to people with no game warden experience.

I am a roofer, I get paid $35/hour to work up on sloped roofs. TDS infection, DEI infection, incompetence infection.
At best, that is a 3 pitch, maybe 4. Most people don't feel anxiety until around 6 or 7. And the secret service should have the shoes designed for walking roofs, considering how often personnel are required to do so. A child could walk that roof in high heels.

I am an insurance adjuster, that has been on thousands of roofs. This roof has a 4/12 pitch, the very minimum slope to meet code. A small child could safely walk across this roof !

If you've ever been to a presidential campaign rally in America, Secret Service agents are literally everywhere. They are above you, below you, and on all sides of you at all times. There are sometimes more agents than there are civilians, depending on the event. There are agents in plain clothes blending in with the crowds. And uniformed agents stationed on every corner of every roof top within a mile of the event, sometimes even further. I have never seen such an absence of Secret Service agents like what happened at this rally. There was a completely unguarded water tower and multiple unguarded rooftops within 400 feet of Trump. That does not happen by accident.
The federal bureaucracy couldn’t get rid of him with the Steele dossier, Russian collusion, etc, so now it’s trying other ways.
Also, no drones and no direct communication with local police.
It depends if it's the incumbent. Presidents get far more agents than candidates who are not president. Police at least, though, yes. It would be understandable to have a cop on the roof instead of SS due to staffing limits, but not nobody.

I was a federal agent that served as a detail leader in protective service operations. Once someone yells gun, you immediately move the principal to safety. you let someone else investigate. there is no such thing as a false alarm. Also, I have never seen Secret Service not secure a venue where all areas were covered. They blew this one badly.

Definitely not normal and reeks of insider job with all the details we have. The shift of blame won't work either because the SS were in command of this security detail and are solely responsible for any failures, period.
And for a principle to be shot is a MASSIVE FAILURE!
