Just rebuilt a box exactly like that (m5od r2) that's the input to the countershaft which runs gears 1-2-3-5-r Fourth gear runs straight off that input shaft which is why it still works. Thats cooked propper. Wonder how they managed that
If the clutch isn’t bleeding good. Try bench bleeding the master slave. Those have a tendency of trapping a air bubble because of how they’re mounted on rangers and explorers. I had the same problem except mine had a leak somewhere and I couldn’t find it so I just went to autozone and bought the “pre-filled” master slave cylinder with hydraulic hose kit and bench bled that and works great
I'm very surprised your first thought wasn't to weld a washer then nut onto the stud and pull it. I have to do every set of LS heads on my channel multiple times over because all the motors I buy are constantly like that on both heads. Usually while it's still hot you can spin the whole deal out with pliers no impact needed
This is really a good series. Trevor's team is taking a totally different route than Sean's. Old school vs new school. Maximizing cross platform fitment vs cut out everything in the way and build new. Both have merits and I know y'all are going to make sure both trucks run because it's not over till someone gets degapitated.
lol its not melted thats all the teeth sheared off the gear. 4th is direct drive. Always always spin the input shaft and in all the gears and reverse make sure the output shaft spins.
Def making that 5.0 swap harder than it should be lol but great vids should've just got everything from that explorer it literally is plug and play other than repinning 2 pins on the harness
I build hot rods and custom cars for a living (Highway 101 Rod and Custom). When I heard your budget and timeline I thought there is no way. There is always the unforseen such as the transmission and all the little things like O2 sensors that take time and cost extra.
Take it back to the junk yard warranty it out and get you a zf z5 out of 87-96 f150 - f350 . I said it on previous videos that trans in the 97 up v6 trucks are just if you’re making more then the power of the v6. The t5 is good but the zf z5’s should mount right up in that ranger no cutting to make it fit.
If the factory 4 cyl transmission is the same internally as the 8 clyinder one, just swap the internals. Too bad they are not like the Nissan 5 speeds with the split housing, where you can just swap the front case with the bellhousing.
Are you sure you have the right thing that goes in that trans, the older levers I think under the ball thingy they have a longer lever then the newer ones I'd check that out
I don't know why this channel doesn't have 1m+ subs? Always really good videos and the amount of giveaways Trevor does is crazy! Keep up the good work lads and thanks for a 30min video👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
The input on the trans burnt up. Seen that a bunch on old explorer transmissions. 4th is the direct gear so it doesn't use the counter shaft in the tranny which is why it still worked. It shouldn't be a terribly expensive rebuild. Probably get away with an input and counter shaft and a couple of bearings.
@@t00schw1fty9Definitely ,I had a 2001 ranger with the 4.3,it blew a head gasket and I was looking down at the engine and I'm no mechanic but I was thinking, they shoe horned this 6cylinder in this tiny compartment,no room to spare. If I had unlimited time and a fully functional shop (lifts, welder, etc)I thought I would gut it, the way Sean did and I was glad to see he made it work.
Trevor, I have started my apprenticeship over 30 years ago. I am Qualified Mechanic and qualified Fabricator. Easy outs should be banned. They never work. Using some cutting fluid and the correct drill will work 90% of the time. Then once the broken stud is out use a plug tap and cut a new thread. If that doesn't work use some heat and weld on a large nut so you can get a Decent weld on it. Then let it cool a little then loosen it. If you have those easy outs or stud extractors, throw them away before they cause you more problems.
good bits make a huge difference on exhaust manifold bolts. I broke most of the same harbor freight kit you got just doing a 5.3, the 50 dollar kit has probably done 2 or 3 sets by now.
ranger master cylinders are notoriously hard to bleed since the are darn near vertical. I pull the master off the firewall and operate it while holding it horizontal and get it bled then put it back on the firewall.
If I'm not mistaken UPAP parts come with a garuntee! Should b able to take it back to em, n they should give ya a new one, AND you shouldn't have to worry about a receipt cuz its in one of the last vids!
I've had luck removing broken studs by welding on nuts. But I've had more luck just drilling them out. If you don't get the drill hole centered with the 1/8" bit use a tapered die grinder bit to center the hole before drilling our to the tap drill size. You can also use a carbide die grinder hit to remove broken off stud extractors, from experience. Also a lot easier to work on am engine on a stand!
I had a 91 Ford Explorer with the 4.0L and had to put 3 transmissions in it due to the mesh synchronizers synchronizer's going.. I was traveling on a highway I felt a little wiggle yeah that's probably what happened. It was also 5 speed
@@tragicnomadic since we have a drag strip 5 mins from the shop it makes it easy but we also have winter and the strip closes in a monthish. The road course stays open but the ranger would need a lot to be road course worthy
Broken stud: die grind flat, use a pointed die to make a small impression for a drill bit, use pb before drilling a hole at least an 1/8in or so deep, hammer in a good easy out, wait plenty of time using heat and pb, pray to the mechanic gods
shaun's confidence kills me
Weld a washer to the broken bolt, then weld a nut to the washer. Get it f'kin hot, wait for it to cool down and turn it out no problem at all.
Looks like Shaun’s doing great 🤟🏻🙂💪🏼
🤘🤘
This reminds me of the race between the bunny and the turtle lol never underestimate 😂 Sean is way ahead now while Trevor kept making fun of him lol
The hare and the tortoise……

So that’s why there was a new clutch in it at the junkyard. they thought it was the clutch but it was the transmission.

Good old 4L slippery E pulls through
Support the RPM act !
Junkyard wars and I think the junk yards winning! 😂
I literally just got done rebuilding that same case and to fix and get everything lined up right sucks bad
Classic turtle vs hare lol. I would’ve never thought Shawn would get first drive 😅😂

I use torques bits to get out busted bolts or studs just drill a small hole that barely goes in and smack in the torques bit
If the factory 4 cyl transmission is the same internally as the 8 clyinder one, just swap the internals. Too bad they are not like the Nissan 5 speeds with the split housing, where you can just swap the front case with the bellhousing.
Yes, why not? Looks the same to me
These 2 are one of my favorite builds so far😂😂

After this challenge you need to see who can get into the 10s the cheapest
That would be sick
A dremel tool and a carbide bit. Slowly go in and chew the stud away until you see threads and tap clean.
Don't count your chickens before they hatch trev.😂😂
I love this series. Can't wait to see where it goes

I can picture Shaun pullung pub to track day wearing some jesus sandals
I like Sean's method just cut away everything and then fabricate the parts that don't fit, when you put it back together...LOL
Seems legit.

You should slot your exhaust manifold flange for that stud so it's easier to remove the exhaust without pulling the engine.
What rack and pinion do you all have on the ls swapped ranger?
Shaun how long till u sell it I want it
Wait that scooter have a supertrapp muffler?
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?
SEAN! SEAN! SEAN!
😂😂
“It’s a, a little loud” had me dying
Sheeesh shaun killed it 🤙
yo im building a LS ranger from my Gramps truck what is this ECU setup you got? it would complete my build
It was a stock ecu with a standalone engine harness
All I can think when that stud is welded on the head "TREVY CUSTOMS"
That is the counter shaft gear that is toast. 4th is direct that's why 4th moves the tires.

When’s gonna be the bike build off in the shop ?? Or hear me out bike giveaway!! Aye aye anybody else??
What Trans did he put behind the 5.0 to use ranger driveshaft?
Used a manual transmission from a 5.0 F250 - i think a 90's one, and the stock manual ranger driveshaft went right in!
no way a ford trans broke and the chevy tran works uhh lol
The manual trans is either an M5OD or a zf-5
What’s wrong with the Trans behind the 4 banger
Gears are smaller, and bell housing is different
Yeah!!! Patent C10!!!
Finish the Truck!!
What size is your overalls trevor?
We all was wondering in town what they loud noise was turns out it was Sean driving his Ranger. We are located in North Carolina btw.
Me too, i heard it lol
🤘🤘😂😂
Sean needs to keep that together for next years LS fest
The LS ranger sounds identical to my buddies clapped out 12 1500. It’s actually hilarious
Shaun looks like Itsuki from initial D coming up the hill 😅
Gotta get the trans out of 1987-97 f150 v8 m50d I believe.
Hey, you know what a real truck sounds like? Go back and listen to this video again.
Yesssssssss! 🤘🤘
How’s my brake line doing, it’s doing great 😂😂😂
Motion Auto TV: Where we do shit that takes people months in about 1-2 weeks 😛
Not gonna lie im really suprised you used that trans especially after saying that. That mechanic history wisdom. Trust your gut lol
whos the Drummer, Vic Firth sticker?
I got some off brand race seats for Sean lol
Howz every thang, I'm good, good 😆 crack me up, ggz
Babe do you wanna watch Netflix??
Me: @ 16:00
Take a screwdriver and pop that tab back to the mid with the rest of the gears and it will be in neutral.
I love the competition build
Love this video series!! Looks like a bunch of fun!!
U called that Trevor
Sean's ranger sounds awesome! I'm torn.. I wanna see a drag truck outts this but also wanna see a pre runner..
Lol that's what we try and decide every day we are working on it

@@tragicnomadic yeah I was looking at front end setups on summit lol
An LS swap is so fucking cliche! Looks like shit too!
definitely gonna have to order an im doing great t shirt
Just weld a nut on the bolt
Shauns Ranger call it the slaynger
Enter it in the danger ranger 9000 cleetus wouldn't never know
The moped looks like a vacuum cleaner!
Shaun's the man
🤘🤘🤘
Great Job!!! Thank You... :-)
hell yeah Shawn
🤘🤘
awesome guys
Trevor... less jibber jabber and more wrenchin!!! Hurry up!! Sheesh....

Seek Jesus everyone! Time is running out! He’s the ONLY way!
changing that steering rack means you jumped and dug out the bolts from the dumpster for nothing
That ford trans is a M5OD
For once it's not the 4l60 with multiple netrual gears
I believe you have a M5R2 5spd. Trans Trevor. Ford/Mazda.
Trevie was talking too much junk! 😂
Yeah he talked those neutrals into his transmission
You’ll get that on these bigger jobs.
Lol some jack leg builders
There is 2 styles of slave clips gold to gold and black to black. Fought that on an f150 once.
Impact gun on spark plugs 😱😱😱😱 that was painful to watch
Done it forever. Never had an issue.
@@seansummer5314 doing great 🤣
