Mike. I have watched your channel for years. I seem to remember when you built that building that you ran radiant tubing thru the whole floor. Not sure if you have had any experience with radiant heat but it truly kicks butt. If you open the garage door in the winter as soon as you close the door you wouldn’t even know you opened it. Hook it up. Get it going. Not sure if the different sides of the building are on different circuits , if so you could just heat that side. Once slab is warm it is really cheap to run.
    Look into it.

I run my 60x80 on radiant heat fueled by a wood boiler. This is the only way to go. I spend zero dollars on propane and my electric bill is $125 in the winter.

I don't know how often I have to tell you this, but if you'd activate your in floor heat you wouldn't have those long recovery times after opening the doors. I have it in my garage. I can open the door on a brutally cold day and the temperature recovers in minutes. When you have in floor heat it becomes a huge thermal storage unit.

Mike: I used to take my Dodge Power Wagon to the car wash every Sunday. After about a year I noticed it was rusting at the fenders. I checked with the car wash owner and he told me they use recycled water for the wash. Well in the winter the water is full of salt. That was pushed into all the little areas in the fender and started the rust. I would check with the car wash there to see if the water is recycled. Even the floor rotted out in a few years.

I love everything about this channel. Sharing from 3 decades knowledge. Hook up the in floor on a pro balanced manifolds. That will allow specific and pinpoint accuracy to each loop in the floor. Now many will say you need a 110 deg water in the floor that’s not the case you can adjust down on 200-250 ft loops in the low 90s no issues. Balanced is the key here. Put in a primary and secondary loops near power plant (gas, oil your choice). Near boiler you will pipe a (low temp and high temp loop on closely spaced Tees. Many ways to do injection, mix ect. Now you have a high temp loop run a hot water unit heater fan forced (many ways to control accurately and based on demand). I am not sure how big exactly that section of your shop is however critical that that unit heater is sized properly. I suggest in all those loops high and low temp circulation is done in the method of pumping away. Using Smart circulator that will adjust the flow and head for each loop based on the balance required per zone.

Mike - I just had my first pole barn built this last summer/fall on my rural property. Like you, i had the in-floor tubing put in for heating the concrete floors. My HVAC guy is almost done installing the heating unit for it and I think you would have been better off spending your $1700 on that system, than your Sun Fire heater IMO. I haven't heard you talk about your in-floor heating system in a long time, so I was wondering if you ever have any plans to get it working. I know you love your wood stove, but if your in floor system is set up for different zones, you can just use it for your garage/shop area.

Use your radiant heating system that you instajjed. The heat source is boiler (electric, oil#2 or natural gas or propane) or a heat pump (air to water or water to water). Health wise a boiler is better and safer. Your red combustion heater has no chimney to evacuate the combustion gases. With the red heater, you need to open a window to let fresh air inside your building when you start the red heater. You could install a wood boiler certified to be installed inside a building.

Mike, I'm going to date myself. BNack several decades ago when we were in WV we used one of those KeroSuns. We put it into the basement to help the wood stove take off the chill in the winter. It only had an odder when you 1st started it up. It burned kerosene the good stuff. But it was cheaper than using the electric baseboards. Not sure if one of those would have sufficed for you as they were over 18KW. Thanks for all the work presenting us with your videos.

Good morning Mike, Melissa and Hunter. Mike, I was looking at your garage door in the background. I've been in the garage door business for 23 years and I know how you are on maintenance. Be sure to lube your torsion springs, rollers and hinges twice a year. 2/1 oil is best, but most use a spray. We have a spray lube in the industry we use which you can purchase from a garage door company. Most homeowners use WD40 which is better than nothing. I would have a garage door company service it at least once every 2 years. The will adjust the springs as they lose tension, tighten everything up, and lube everything.

Mike I was gonna mention this in your last video about the wood stoves and we love ours in the house but in my 30x60 shop I have an older Reznor waste oil heater and that may be perfect for your situation and if you build a new building I definitely recommend. I only turn it on when I go in the shop and it warms it up very quickly as it’s 250,000 btus. As far as the waste oil is free I burn all my oil that I use in the tractors and vehicles. And I have a few local garages that just give me the oil in 55 gallon drums. Check them out. I have mine mounted up next to the ceiling so it takes up zero floor space.

Hi Mike, great video! Regarding a heater or better yet, heating your manufacturing/storage space. There are quite a few remedies that have been used in industrial spaces to heat localized areas as well as ways to keep the heat in, while the door is open. Not sure if you have natural gas or propane plumbed into the garage. IR heaters are very passive and don't make noise. Reznor forced air mounted high can act as an air curtain while the door is open and also heat the entire space but they make fan noise while operating. They do provide quick make-up heat. A plastic drape curtain is pretty common in front of large doors to help control temp. The ground heater will always be in the way and you will always need to mess with some kind of fuel. There is an odorless kerosene you can try that could get you much closer to "odorless." Just thinking, any way you burn diesel, you are going to smell it. Last thought, didn't you install the floor heat? Have a nice day!

I left empty handed. They told me I would have to wait 48 hours for it to clear! In the day of everything being instant Chase bank was going to hold my money hostage. Still scratching my head on that one but I voided the check and went to my other bank to get the cash that way. They didn’t have enough cash on hand! I have to come back in today to get my withdrawal. Make that one make sense! BTW I’m only talking about $5k here!

They run on kerosene or diesel, need no electric power to run, make no noise or odor, and provide a light source as well. You can even cook on top of them. They can even be used indoors if you burn kerosene in them. These are great for temporary heat and light during power outages.

Well, I use a C-pap machine and I used the Flonase for a while but my Dr. told me that after a while your nose gets addicted to the stuff. So, I decided on plan B. I got the Maximum strength Breathrite strips and I started sucking on a Halls wild cherry menthol cough drop every night. It has helped tremendously. Only thing is that I ended up having to put a little piece of paper towel on the breathrite strip across the bridge of my nose because after a few days it was pulling the skin off the bridge of my nose. And when you eat the cough drop breath through your nose it will help open it up. Sorry this is so long but I'm not real good explaining things. God bless and have a wonderful day. 👍👍🙂

In the 80's I had a Pontiac 6000 diesel. It got tremendous mileage. around 40. And it had a large fuel tank. I had filled it when weather was still warm. Weeks later, over a month, the temperature dropped like a rock. I took the car out and it gelled. I towed it home and turned on the ceiling hung heater. After hours that had not improved the situation. So I borrowed a Torpedo heater and jacked the car up on the front. aiming the torpedo down the length of the car. Within an hour I was able to start it. I added #1 diesel and additives to the tank. Since then I've been able to get #2 with additives at most stations. Recently I had filled my Duramax with straight #2 with no additives. We had a sever cold snap. So I left the truck in the heated garage until it warmed up.

I do not remember if you comp[eted the radiant in floor heat. Mine was installed with a dedicated gas boiler with gas supply from the house. I barely notice the cost. I just leave it on 55 degrees all the time. The building is 1750 sqft with no windows, just one man door and a 10x18 over head. I suspect you could use a wood fired outdoor boiler.

Good morning folks. Interesting video of burning combustible fuel indoors with a non vented burner. Mike with all your planning on building the HQ building. Why haven't your tried the radiant floor heat system you've installed? Would a NG boiler cost that much to operate? Heating a building that size is a learning process.

I have made several trips straight back from San Angelo Texas to western Kentucky, over 1000 miles. That means 3 gas fill ups. I usually get a phone call from my credit card company reporting possible fraud. About six years ago, I got my card flagged in Florida trying to buy a Sun Pass. If I buy something from an Apple Store, I always get a call from my card company.

Fortunately for us, we pay $20 a month for unlimited car washes, you could go once a day if you wanted/needed to. It's a drive-thru so you stay in your vehicle and it is all automated, takes about 1 minute and you're done. We have the other types of car washes in our area but for us this is a great option. Nice drive thru the woods and clearing, lots of deer!

Mike, Mike, Mike, You don’t want to reheat the air, you want to mitigate the exchange. I founded and ran a manufacturing company and from the beginning (small company) we hung plastic vertical barriers over each garage/dock door. You may do so with a supported bar running under the door, side-to-side. Yes, some air will escape, but you will be surprised ay the effective’s. BTW: it is a bit annoying at times, remove in the summer, but you will save big $’s

Don’t you have an insulated partition wall between your living area in HQ & the area by the big door that you purposed for bringing equipment inside originally? All shops & stores usually have those huge electric heaters or garage heaters in the area of the large roll up door. Also you could install a pleated heavy thick plastic strips partition to keep the cold out when open?

The problem with cash, besides taking up a lot of space in your wallet, is if something happens to it, you can't retrieve it. If you lose it or it is stolen, it's gone for good. If criminals know you have cash, you become a target. They even watch people go to the ATM and follow them home. Also, you end up with loose change everywhere too.
