  • Project Bruised Civic: K24 Swapping the 7th Gen Civic
    By Aaron Gaghagen
    Let's keep it 100, the 7th generation Civic was a letdown. Coming off of the 6th gen with the future classic EM1, Honda's Civic was doing big numbers. And they were looking to go even bigger, so they evolved the 7th gen Civic for the masses with a flat rear floor and bumping the base model power by a whopping 9 horsepower. The general public ate it up. But, you know we aren't the general public so when enthusiasts saw power not increase for the EX and Si trim levels and the loss of the super capable and familiar double wishbone suspension, how could we not feel forsaken?
    Luckily for 7th generation owners, people like Brian exist. He dove right in back in the early 2000s to take his ES1 far beyond what people thought was possible. A turbo K20 swap along thoughtful suspension mods turned the sleepy sedan into a track ripper and a magazine cover car. This is the car that Brian used to develop Hasport's K swap kit. By the time I got ride in and drive it, the Civic had received a facelift, a K24 from an Accord mated to a 5 speed manual and the black and blue paint job which it still sports today. It was completely different from my personal 2003 Civic sedan that I hated to drive. It was raw and fun to take around corners, but that was a loooong time ago.
    The poor 7th gen fell to the back burner as Brian moved on to develop other vehicles and changed from raw to just rough, from bruiser to straight up bruised. But, it's 2021 and it's time to get the Bruised Civic back into daily driver shape and show the process of doing an automatic to manual conversion and K24 swap.

      Planning on swapping a k24a2 (1st gen tsx motor) into my es1. I’m pretty young and this is going to be my first swap. I was wondering if you ever ended up doing the swap and if so was it a straight over swap? Can the stock es1 subframe support a k24a2? If not should I just pull a tsx subframe aswell?

      We didn't have any problems with heat even when the car was turbocharged. The wiring is low enough not to be affected and the motor didn't seem to be affected either. Bump steer is a problem with excessively lowered cars. I haven't done a sweep of the suspension travel to see at what point bump steer becomes a problem, so I really can't answer that.

  • @minineji7050
    @minineji7050 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm currently in the process of preparing my k24a2 to install into the engine bay but I was wondering if you have had any experience with using the AC compressor and/or PS pumps that come off the k24a2. I've researched this quite a bit and haven't had any luck on finding the solution bc the ep3/rsx parts are what most people run but I'm strapped for my budget so would like to use these parts provided it is even possible. Thanks

    • @VTECAcademy
      @VTECAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would need to make AC lines for the compressor. The PS pump hits the hood, so you need to cut some of the under structure away to fit.

    any of yall who are a little salty you cant do the k swap just go to a junkyard and pull a d17. you'll get familiar with your engine while not messing with your for firsts. secondly it cost around 1800 bucks to FULLY build the d17 if you want to half build like just pistons springs valves retainers and cams it would be 1k. now you have a fully built d17 for 1800 right. you got to take your time on the build because you still had you original engine driving your daily! NOW you get a FABRICATED turbo kit for 2k down the road. you have something to work for now that you have a fully built engine you'll save even harder for the turbo kit. once the kit is in you get the kpro which you would have to get either way kswap or built d17 so no money loss there. now you can push 370hp SAFLEY which is way to much for our cars until you have full suspension and wheels. so you can tone it down to lets says 250 to the wheels which is PERFECT AND you push it in a extremely safe engine. now you also have a spare engine to than build AS WELL incase anything happens because your daily engine was not blown when swapping in the newly build d17! AND you spent the same money for more POWER! and you didn't have to convert anything!

    Is there a 6 speed manual transmission that would work with this swap?

      Yes, any of the K20A/Z 6-speeds or the TSX 6-speed.

      @@inkdrgn3you can use the k24 from the tsx. Thats the k24a2. What you’ll need depends on if you’re going for a manual or automatic swap. I have a note in my notes app with a bunch of information regarding a swap with this specific engine and I add information everyday. I plan on using it as a guide to when I swap mine. If you have an iphone and would like it then I can share it with you

      @VTECAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not with the TSX engine. If you use a K20A2 or Z1 you can use the stock 01-04 RSX Type S ECU. You would need to make a few wiring changes or use an adapter harness. Then you would have to have Honda reflash the ECU to work with your Civic's key.

      Everybody says that but I finally bought one and I actually really like it. I like the way it drives and handles. Likes to oversteer a lot so it’s pretty fun in the rain, especially with an empty gas tank. Not sure why people dislike these so much other than the looks. I especially love that it’s a basic no abs no power windows bare bones model with an immobilizer, gives me some peace of mind when I park in sketchy areas.

      @@s550andrew that’s not possible, ecu won’t allow the car to turn on without immobilizer. Most common way on 7th gen chassis (rsx, crv) is to swap the ecu for a stand-alone but the ecu on these civics are hidden in the dash and it’s not worth the effort to steal a base civic.
