His studio rendition of this is great, but his live performance of this on the final night of JCS in Sydney is amazing. I was there. It was pure magic and had me in tears and I still cry every time I watch it now.

Fantastic John and music . His live version final night Sydney 1992 is the best. John portrays Jesus' fear and pain so well. John and the whole cast were phenomenal. The musical arrangement is so wonderful under David Hirschfelder. Thank you so much for this beautiful reaction. 🤗💞😍

I saw that show in Brisbane in 1992. Oz legends, John Farnham, Jon Stevens, Kate Ceberano, Angry Anderson, all in one amazing show.

Pretty much opera music, he sang Granada with Anthony Warlow who is a proper opera singer and they had so much fun doing it.
    He can sing any genre.

Thank you for reacting to John and his epic version of this song. So nice to wake up to this on a Sunday morning 😊👍
John was incredible as Jesus. When John sings this live he brings so much emotion and feeling to the role. He is a great actor and played this with such respect 👏
I am glad you enjoyed this and I hope you will do some more of Farnsey and also get that reaction to Help released soon. Good luck with that 😊
Thanks for supporting the amazing Aussie artists. Love the vibe of your channel and no skipping rants for me!! Happy to hear what you have to say. Have a great day 😊❤❤

religious or not you can feel the pain in the garden of Gethsemane making that decision to go through all the torture on top of the crucifixion - doesn't matter who you are or what you believe, you can feel it all in John's voice.

John's version of this always makes the hairs on the back of neck stand up. As a previous commenter said, religious or not, you'd have to be a hard ar.e not to be affected by the raw emotion that oozes from this song. The live version of it is way better though, probably because one can see John's emotion. The whole cast were brilliant 👌👏👏.

10pm Saturday here in West Aust. So happy to see you check out more from John. This studio version is great, (I think it might actually be a recording from the live show, so the vocals are great as always) ..... but you will soon discover that you should always and only ever react John live. Appart from the fact that his voice just lifts to even greater heights when he is performing in front of an audience, you also get to experience and see the emotion and passion that he puts into live performances. In this case you get to feel the pain and anguish that he brings to the performance. Totally spell binding. I hope that you will take this into account when checking out performances from John.
One exception to the rule is his cover of Led Zeplins Black Dog, which was recorded by chance. John and his band used Black Dog as a sound check and warm up, and never actually performed it in frot of an audience. Fortunately his sound engineer pushed the record button one time, so now we all get to hear it forever.

John is always best live - I personally love 'Burn for you' live and 'Angels' live 2000 - two absolutely beautiful songs - The 'Angels' performance will show John's character and personality as well. He was born to perform. Believe it or not John has been singing since the 60's.

Thank you for reacting to John. Many will tell you that he is best watched "live". Although this recorded version is great, of course, but when he does it live he take it to another level. Here is the video of the last night in Sydney.. th-cam.com/video/k5woMZtClhI/w-d-xo.html
Saying that, there is only one song that you will only find a audio version, and that is John and his band doing a warm up/sound check (that the engineer recorded), the song is "Black Dog" by Led Zepplin and he gives Robert Plant a run for his money.

This again shows John’s vocal ability and agility singing this powerful stage show song from “Jesus Christ superstar”. It makes sense John would play the part of Jesus and with his voice he’s a god in my book. Ian Gillian from “deep purple” also done a great job with this but I haven’t heard a version better than this. Epic. There’s a live version of this which is so much more powerful and emotional. Awesome.

John sings this song on a rotating stage in this musical theatre performance. John has wonderful interpretive ability. Crucifixion was the Roman Empire's shocking way of punishing and killing people as a fear tactic. The crucified were left to a slow and extremely painful death with all kinds of internal breakdown, in public places along roads for all to see. Australia's SBS TV channel had an excellent documentary on Crucifixion. Please react to John and his band singing, LIVE on stage, 'Love's In Need' (originally by Stevie Wonder). It's a wonderful, heart-felt song for a Sunday reflection and especially applicable in these present times.

4:09 - That's impressive you picked up it was most certainly John Farnham after only hearing him just a few times.
John Farnham played the role of Jesus in the 1992 Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar. The overall cast was filled with big Australian singers (probably not well known outside Australia though) with most notably Jon Stevens as Judas and Kate Ceberano as Mary.
The production was a huge success with it running for 84 nights in 16 weeks and earning $40 million (AUD). The day the box office opened, tickets reportedly sold at a rate of 400 per minute, with extra performances being added wherever possible). (Got those statistics from a Jesus Christ Superstar website).
I like this studio version and John does hit some high notes. As other people mentioned, in your own time, watch the 'John Farnham - Gethsemane Sydney Final Night' for his acting skills and more portray of emotion (I know, "more emotion!? How is that possible?")
If you want a taste of the 1992 production - The TH-cam clip
'JCS - Australia 1992- The Last Supper'
Is a great to hear John Farnham and Jon Stevens having a battle with belting out skills 🤣 and the chorus does a good job in their parts.

The studio version is so restrained. I can understand that a lot of artists sing their best versions in the studio. Sometimes they can’t actually sing it well live. John Farnham is the reverse, and I usually just turn reactions off when it’s studio.

Yes it's pronounced Geth sem any or often referred to as The Agony In The Garden.... Jesus Christ Superstar was a broadway musical and this was the final night of it's Sydney production of John Farnham playing the lead role of Jesus the man....the whole show was so powerful.... Sadly it's the recorded song from the album...not a live cover...etc. And I was disappointed....but understand you're doing your best for us.... thanks again for all your support for our Aussie artists. ps love your final comments ❤‍🔥

If all else fails, just do them in the order that they come, we understand that you can't get to them all, we're pretty patient people - we'll wait. I saw the 70s version of JCS and I saw the version with John. Both were great shows but I did love this show more. If you can, find the actual clip of this and check it out in your own time, John's acting abilities are also spot on

Sadly, this isn't as good as the video of John Farnham performing this live. As others have said, always try to find videos of his live performances since he fed off the audience and atmosphere so his performances were even better than his studio recordings as well as seeing his personality shining through. The videos of him performing live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, included so many great songs such as his version of "Help", his signature song "You're The Voice" and even ACDC's "It's a Long Way to the Top (If you want to rock and roll)".

Don't hate me, but the live video is better than this studio version.
Filmed and recorded during the final performance, John and the cast / orchestra nailed it, and without the interference of a record producer / engineer with their own over sized egos.
It is also more complete than just the part including the orchestra.

    You got him that's john
If your interested there's one with film clip
So if you want to see his passion go watch the clip
This is probably better version for hearing all the lyrics
Just remember these are only suggestions
You pick what sparks your interested first and play that
It's why I try to give some back ground on songs
I'm in Adelaide Sunday 9.30 am
Yeah I'm not religious but love this music and it's meaning
As it's how we'd feel if had it happened to us
I agree never show weakness as it will be used against you at sometime
Own what you do and only do to other what you want done to you
That's what I was always taught and as religion it was mixed in my family
But we got to choose our own paths so I may not be religious but carry some of those values
As my grandmother and mum where catholic and dad wasn't and I carry alot of my granny in me
She had the kindness that I've never seen ever and only seen her angry twice
That was a talking down to make them think of what they've done
Most times she would exsplain what you did wrong and why then the options you could've had
Then asked which option would you choose now and when you'd tell her she'd hug you and say
So next time just remember that and to remember that there's options all the time
So stop and think I've how you'd feel if some does it to you
It was profound for me as a child it flipped a switch in me and a philosophy I've lived my life by
I might say I've never looked back since lost and carm relaxed with much less judgemental additude
Even though I'm not religious I'm quite sure I carry some in me from my granny as you see many different ways
To make a impression on someone and don't need to push a ideal but knew that for me logic and thought
Was how to get the message through to me to be a better person
Where's other need the more formal ways to help them
My belief is no one dies in your life as you carry them with you every day as you do or say something they did we hear
So there spirit still alive just not their physical
Example is how often to you do something and think of someone and go what would they do if was here or ill do it this way because it how they did it and you learnt from
So to me that's them still alive in spirit talking with us why they pop into our minds
I used to think they couldn't let us know what they're thinking but like before sometime when having issue's
You will think how would they do it that's them speaking to us helping just unfortunately a different way of communicating
All subconscious and why I'm not religious but carry some of the values but a much stronger individual within myself
As I don't need to conform to a church but pick to be a decent person taught to me by someone who was opened minded to let me make my own path and adapt some of their beliefs to use all thanks to my granny
Who taught me it only takes one person kindness to change someone's life for ever in a better way because she changed mine
From angry carefree careless individual to someone who not relaxed and think of the impact you can have on other negative or positive so I've chosen the positive as it's much more rewarding not financially and actually the opposite
But mental it far more rewarding and hope that some day it help someone and I don't need to know either
Just happy to remain who I am under any circumstances and pressure its taught me to enjoy every minute of my day
Wether it's a up or down there's always a lesson in everything it's up to us what choice's we make is the result in life we get
We will never get it right all the time but we choose our happiness or misery regardless of our circumstances in life
    Sorry for the rambling
    Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍

You have said before that you are more spiritual than religious, even though church is an important part of your life. I really like your take on this reimagining of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (pronounced Geth-sem-an-ee), as JC Superstar was highly controversial when it first played Broadway in 1971. In fact it was considered blasphemous by the Evangelical church. Of course, the more the Church railed against it, the more popular it became - and the show has been played somewhere on the world's stages without a break ever since. It was never meant to be taken seriously as a religious dissertation.
"Jesus Christ Superstar is a sung-through rock opera loosely based on the Gospels' accounts of the Passion, the work interprets the psychology of Jesus and other characters, with much of the plot centered on Judas, who is dissatisfied with the direction in which Jesus is steering his disciples. Contemporary attitudes, sensibilities and slang pervade the rock opera's lyrics, and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the depiction of political events. Stage and film productions accordingly contain many intentional anachronisms." - Wikipedia.
By now you will have been inundated with requests for John's live version from the Sydney 1992 Concert production, and it's definitely worth watching, even if you don't react to it - it's so visceral you find yourself gutted by the end. This was the night that Tim Rice, who wrote the lyrics, was in the audience so John and the rest of the cast pulled out all the stops. th-cam.com/video/k5woMZtClhI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vJNTIHsT2CkDjoB-

He sweat blood. It’s interesting to know that it’s a real but rare thing brought on by psychological stress called Hematohidrosis. So it is a good representation of the struggle. He never blamed the Father though. John 10:18. He says it is His life to lay down willingly and nobody will stop Him doing it
Hebrews 4:15 says he suffered all the things we do so understands our struggles.
Isiah 53 was written 600 years before his death about Him and speaks about him being pierced and that he was a man of sorrows.
“He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. ¶Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our peace fell upon Him, And by His wounds we are healed.”

I adore Farnsey but I was disappointed with this performance.
    -----
Jesus did not have 100% conviction. It's right there in the Bible -- he doubted, he questioned, like any other man, but ultimately he submitted to his father's wishes. Which is a whole other issue I won't get into here lol.
    -----
When we start coming up on the holiday season, I would like to recommend that you listen to 'Mary, Did You Know?' by Pentatonix. I think you would enjoy it.
