"Pale Green Ghosts" from the album of the same name, released 2013 on Bella Union. Director: Alex Southam Producer: Imogen Rigby DP: Paul Newton www.johngrant.com www.bellaunion.com
The vocals has something of Dead Can Dance, the sound start with a sophisticated electronic style then gradually became a mix of classical instruments and electrónica. A masterpiece.
Album of the year for sure. Wonderful songs by someone who can actually sing. Although the electronic backings of some of the songs is cold, that voice is very warm. The whole has an underlying sense of sadness and loss, but not in an alienating way at all. Whoever broke this big man's heart wants his arse kicked. Very sad to have heard of John's recent diagnosis - but these days, it doesn't mean the end of the road. You're a star, sir!
Heard the Rachmnaninoff piece yesterday and spent the entire day trying to remember where I'd heard it before. Maddening, but finally remembered. Great song.
When you hear classical blended in like this it’s amazing I grew up on up on classical having a sister that played piano It’s heavyweight stuff. Very moving and moody Yet when you search or tune in it’s garbage classical they play I give this the thumbs up 100% 10 out of 10 Star
I’m just a simple hetro guy but I totally love John Grants mind. Complex, witty, deep, self effacing, cryptic, amazing, beautiful. Thank you John for hours of wonder...and learning.
Were you there? Trax Club. Denver. Early 80's. "Driving on the road at night and the radio broadcasting the ocean." YES. Chinook winds. YES. Pale green ghosts -- trees. YES. Thank God you are ALIVE...to make this music. And Parker. Beyond words. I don't think anyone can truly understand the "oppression" (doesn't describe it). Oh God this song is so f* healing. I never ever ever thought something this beautiful would come from that time and place. Oh THANK YOU !! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU !!
For those that haven't please check out the Czars albums... All good but especially 'the ugly people versus the beautiful people'...John's vocals are wonderful and the Czars are actually a very good band!
John Grant, I know you are my soul mate, and we will probably never meet. It breaks my heart, but at least I have your beautiful music forever. Thank you, again.
Thank you Shazam for helping me find this song. I work in a starbucks and it always comes on in our playlist and it feels like a heist or something is about to kick off
This is great , sort of reminds me of gusgus , it's got an Icelandic vibe to it , only heard of him because he was on a bbc 4 music documentary last Friday and now I gotta splash out 25£ for his record yey!
The best Night Drive song.......A dark desolate county road, highway, or a coastal road @ night with the dark ocean breeze blowing your hair everywhere! Driving on A1A from SOBE Mia to Ft Lauderdale & the reflection on the green traffic lights looked like pale green ghost on the street.
Saw you for the first time on Jools Holland tonight. What a performance..... loved it...as ever while im watching Joole I have the laptop ready to go find music I like from the show.... ohhh yes.....
I will not say I'm that surprised by the new sound (the extra-tracks of "Queen of Denmark" were a hint) but I LOVE IT!!! John's voice is put in evidence so well here... Can't wait to hear the whole album, it's been too long.
@@dsoaudio I'm delving into him for the first time... I love nostalgic soulful voices... I heard him sing a song Hard Times with "supergroup" Whyte Horses... That led me to Haha Sounds Collective who have male vocalist who reminded me of John Grant. And this all started with my recently discovered love for Broadcast and The Sound carriers - two groups I caught onto way late ( which for most people this kinda thing started with Stereolab )... I love Dead can Dance too... And on and on
This man is amazing! i discovered him a few days ago and he blows my mind with this album..so perfectly crafted and the sound is very dramatic and has lots of fusions and musical influences..just perfect...Keep going Graham the worlds needs more of your music!! god bless you :)
Just bought a ticket tonight to go and see this hidden treasure in Birmingham on 9th May. Really looking forward to it. Heard him on 6music on Radcliffe and Maconie and he is so humble and just glad to be making music. Excellent.
This is superb and well worth the wait. Listened to it the first couple of times without watching the video to really appreciate it. The video itself really matches the song. Thanks John.
Saw John last night at Shepherds Bush Empire and was blown away. If he'd chosen to perform acapella that would have been enough, his voice is so strong and carries. Using his anger to create - HE IS A TRUE ARTIST.
+Shaine MacDonald A little of Throbbing Gristle and some Krautrock too. John uses many musical knowledge that he has on his works, That´s what makes him a genious.
I'm so pleased someone like John has come along to give us his take on good music that has no genre, and you can put it to any style you like.. rare indeed. this track feels up the room and leaves you wanting more, the key to getting well John is let the music heal. your in our thoughts dude. mickey
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh no! The ghosts say “hi”, John ❤️
I loved something about this guy the first time I heard him. (Tuesday's Jools Holland) This track also tugs at my musical soul. I will be buying the album ( I think that's what LP's are called nowadays). It's not what I usually buy, and that's got to be good too.
Bloody top music or what?! Wowee. Can't wait for the album release in March. Been a long time since Queen of Denmark. Sounds like it was worth the wait. Top bloke!
The vocals has something of Dead Can Dance, the sound start with a sophisticated electronic style then gradually became a mix of classical instruments and electrónica. A masterpiece.
Brendan Perry listens to John Grant songs!

You're a star, sir!
Something keeps drawing me back to this song……. the ambiguity, the mystery….. the infectious rhythm.
The orchestral part is a quote from the b section of Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C Sharp MInor. Brilliant!
I listened to that for the first time today and was caught off guard! I thought bloody hell, Rachmaninoff's pinched John Grant's work here!
Heard the Rachmnaninoff piece yesterday and spent the entire day trying to remember where I'd heard it before. Maddening, but finally remembered. Great song.
When you hear classical blended in like this it’s amazing

in a league of his own ....a peerless voice and just a creative genius.....simple
This mans voice is insanely good.
So much love for this.
I’m just a simple hetro guy but I totally love John Grants mind. Complex, witty, deep, self effacing, cryptic, amazing, beautiful. Thank you John for hours of wonder...and learning.
Yes, yes, yes.

Mr John Grant... You are awesome!
such a clever tune......brilliant!
outstanding... his voice reminds me of Scott Walker circa 1965, the Genevive period. And what a great video...

Fantastic - enjoyed his interview in Radio New Zealand. Amazing voice ! USA's loss - the worlds gain !
"Looking" brought me here :D
Reminds me of Depeche Mode in a slight way.
+Shaine MacDonald A little of Throbbing Gristle and some Krautrock too. John uses many musical knowledge that he has on his works, That´s what makes him a genious.
Shaine MacDonald I think he sounds like bono sometimes too
he probably got a lot of inspiration from DM and the great Martin Gore
Yea cause all songs with dark beats and a baritone voice is like fckin Depeche Mode djees
