  • Thank you to all my subscribers! So many of you have joined since my last video, which was a giveaway. Please refer to my latest TH-cam Community post to see who the winner is!
    This is my 20th filmed project! I have been staring at that piece of Hawaiian Koa for the past year, unsure what to do with it because of its oddly weird and off-center shape. I hope I did justice to the beautiful wood. I figured it would be appropriate to try to keep as much of the pith as possible, since it seemed stable. The piece of wood itself was aged 15 years before being milled about 1 year ago. So if it wasn't a stable pith, I'm sure it would have split. Since the project was done, the pith has not moved. However, there was quite an interesting knot that made hollowing to equal wall thickness almost impossible, inspite of the fact that I broke in my new gigantic hollower.
    I hope you all enjoyed this project! I look forward to trying some new techniques and skills pretty soon!
    Cheers to all and have a blessed day!

    Gosh I love watching you working at your lathe David. I have seen you do some 'impossible' turnings in some 'impossible' pieces of wood, but you always rise to the challenge. I just finished watching a bowl being turned in Hawaiian Kao wood & noticed that you had a video with the same wood so I immediately had to watch & you did not disappoint. It is a delightful shape & to me, the wood appears to turns so beautifully & takes a 'finish' just as well. Very relaxing video, love your work but if I could make one selfish comment & that is, I would love to have you talk through your work & explain what you are doing & why just to bring us in close to you so we almost feel like we are there with you. The music could still be played quietly in the background. Please don't take this as a criticism rather as a constructive comment. Cheers, Don from South Aust.

    Mr.A, I view an awful lot of wood turning on this TH-cam, in an effort to educate myself in the turning art. I’ve see work as good as yours , but NONE better! Your touch with the tools is that of an exacting artist, and has become my aspiration as well. You are far from just entertaining, you are serene instruction. Some voice-over would be welcome, just for us newbies- such as the exact tools you are using and the reason you decided to use that particular too ( beyond the obvious , naturally) . To some of us newbies, it may very well be the first time we’ve actually seen a particular tool in use, or even heard about it. By the way, your filming quality is quite nice too, your closeups are welcome so that we can see how the tool is being used and the results of its use as it happens! Very welcome indeed. I don’t know how long you’ve been turning, but you’ve got my vote for being the best all round turner on the Tube. A little personality wouldn’t hurt, though!! Lol! A devoted fan, Charlie Ball in Florida.

    • @DavidAdamsen
      @DavidAdamsen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wow thanks so much! I don’t consider myself an expert, and I hate listening to my own voice. So that’s why I wouldn’t be any good at voice over. I still have a lot to learn, I’ve only been turning for about 15 months.

      Hi Charlie, I agree that David's work is just superb. I would have to say though that there are so many turners on TH-cam who offer great info on what tools they're using and why, that it makes this site such a welcome departure from those just to be able to enjoy watching the creation of the artist. I've read David's response and am stunned that he's only been turning for such a relatively short period of time! The man is gifted! I wouldn't change a thing on these videos. They are just perfect and I hope that you and I continue to enjoy them x
