Poke them all in from the top and bend them over and get under the boat to push the other end out. Return to outside and twist them up. Cheap flush cutters from Harbor Freight will clip them off flush after filleting.

I just purchased my Chesapeake 17 kit. Ive watched CLC vids extensively and im enjoying yours too. Ive noticed CLC has gone to puzzle joints instead of scarfs.

congrats and good luck with it. it is fun to put together and a real treat in the water. Yes, the puzzle joints.. at first I didn't think I would like them because I thought they would look weird when finished but for the most part they are really kind of hidden in the bottom and the sides. Result, they aren't detracting from the finished product. They do make it pretty fool proof too. Watch out for the radius tool you get for the deck. At least in my kit, the radius was wrong and I had to trim it down. I think I did a video in this series about that.

How many man hours for that particular kayak would you estimate?
Obviously stitch is faster but by how much?
I've done a strip built (AUK 17') and have been eyeing this design for another build ...strip builds are so time consuming.

I got the kit which saved a lot of time. I did it nights and weekends for about 3 months. I don’t know exact hours but I’d guess 60 to 80

@@JenkinsBoatWorks Wow a small fraction of the time of strip built.

@@HighGear7445 yes absolutely. didn't hurt that I'd done one before. Previously I built a CLC Double Duck but that time I sourced my own Okoume plywood and then had to cut out the pieces, scarf the old fashion way. I was in a hurry this time and so the kit made much shorter work of the whole thing. I bought wood pieces kit only instead of all of the epoxy and full kit as I had some fiberglass and epoxy already

Did you try sucking on the end of the wire to help get it through the holes? It works for me when threading cotton through a needle, ha, ha. That bit must have taken ages. Once you started gluing and glassing the job flew along. Three boats on the go and all so different from each other; I don't think anybody else is doing this.

the stitching did take a little while but as you could see, some of them went right in. Yeah, three boats at once, guess that is what a big shop allows! ha. thanks Dale

Not real good at following directions or problem solving.
