There are Tom Ripleys everywhere, trying to be something others people want, trying to be perfect, trying to be accepted, trying to appear "normal", trying to please, trying to thank, trying to be happy, trying to have a good life. Life's just a theatre, and Tom Ripley played as well, we all know the rules.
+Marcos Mortimer Yes. I know people like that, I remember being the "Disease To Please" Girl when I was younger but I realize now I was spending more time trying to make others happy instead of myself.
Well said. Tom Ripley's story somehow reminds me of Fitzgerald's Great Gatsby where we see another penniless young man trying to disguise and act like someone who's from another social class.
One of the most unique and amazing films you will ever see. In my top 10 of all time and will never slip out of it. Matt Damon as the star was the icing on the cake, as he's probably my fav actor.
I think Jude Law stole the light. Amazing casting choices. The movie changes so much in tone once Dickey is removed from the picture. Can't see anyone else playing Dickey Greenleaf
Lullaby for Cain, by Gabriel Yared (music) and director Anthony Mingella (lyrics). There are different versions. In this one the first part is sung by Sinéad O'Connor, I don't know who sings the second part. The version on the soundtrack cd is sung by Sinéad O'Connor.
The fact that when we first see Tom in the title sequence he is in the same room that he is in at the end of the movie is such a chilling detail.

The opening is so good that it demand your ettention right from the start to the end
Thanks for your remark. I used this in film analysis classes to show the different cinematographic uses of conveying meaning.

I’ve always identified with Tom and the themes throughout this hidden gem. One of my favorite movies of all time.
From the very opening logos, we are told what kind of a film this really is. It makes that whole first act so tense. We know something grim is coming.
one of my fav movies ...
