One of The Best Opening Credits for a Film ever made. John Williams' soundtrack for this is one of his most Underrated compositions.

I mean... 2:00 is pretty much everything. I've been obsessed with this passage ever since the first time I saw the movie. One of the coolest chord progressions of all time.

Same here! Just that particular part from 2:00 through 2:19, that part just captivates me musically. I mean, maybe not all the films John Williams has performed in, but that part of the music probably could have been used in at least a few of the films he has scored for just for a particular scene. Like for example….. I could hear it being used in the movie RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, when Indiana Jones is trying to put on the uniform that couldn’t fit him and the Nazi soldier comes up to him right before Jones knocks him out…..that score could be used for that scene.

A Mancini moment, I'd be inclined to call it. Big nod to Herman, but Hank's in their too. A reminder that John Williams was pianist on the great Peter Gunn sessions.

the design of this sequence is a very good homage to the movie openings of the 50s/60s era (John Barry, Elmer bernstein, henri Mancini, james bernard, Harry Lubin, etc.)

Fun fact: the reason behind this choice of animation in the opening titles is because this film is set in the late 1960's, which is when a popular geometrical art style was common in.

I feel like if Saul Bass was around during our modern era, he could do his sequences like this. I feel like this captures a style well represented for the time period and the sequence Saul Bass would’ve made. I mean the sequence also sets the tone for the film, introducing what we’re about to watch, involving an FBI Agent and this “master of disguise” the Agent is chasing.
