    This is a fantastic walkthrough. Thank you!
    I think Neil is similar to Elliot Easton in that their leads may sound simple, but their unique phrasing makes them really interesting and memorable. I bet that descending chromatic line wasn’t a mistake, but we’ll probably never know for sure. :)
    Neil’s rhythm playing is killer as well. Some how the simple chords of this sound really jump out from the track. You can hear the energy and attitude in his playing, and that’s not simple or easy for many players. :)
    This is a wonderful channel! Thanks again!

      I was thinking about the elliot easton/neil giraldo similiarities myself and saw this comment, lol. Just the way they construct solos is so similiar, with Neil having a more hard rock edge and elliot a rockabiliy style but similiar solo styles.

      LOL that was an important movie from my childhood (I was 11 when it came out in 1982). In part because I grew up where it was filmed in the San Fernando Valley (northern suburban L.A.). They filmed the mall scenes at the Sherman Oaks Galleria near my house, and every time I watch it, great memories come back.... the movie theater where Mark worked, the food court where Stacy worked, the arcade (in real life, the Sega Center!) :)

    You've got a great sound! What amp and effects are you using?

    • @PDXguitarfreak
      @PDXguitarfreak  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Chris! As of the date of this video, for recording I was going straight into a Line 6 HD500 processor (for amp simulation and effects), and then into my computer where the signal is captured and edited into the video. However, since August of 2018, I have been using the Line 6 Helix processor for recording. When I really want to push some air, I have an EVH 5150iii combo with a handful of pedals (but you won't hear that in my videos). As for effects on lead guitar (whether recording with a Line 6 product or using a real amp), I typically use delay and reverb, plus occasionally some chorus (set for slow and wide), and a bit of phaser. The phaser is set up before the amp (as opposed to in the effects loop), and is set for a VERY subtle phase, like Van Halen did on his early recordings using an MXR Phase 90.

    I used to play this solo in a covers band in the late 1990s here in England (UK). This song is not really known over here and yet it always went down well with the audience. I think it is a great solo, very melodic with nice simple phrasing but has a real hook to it. You can also embelish this solo and make it more technical very easily without ruining it.

      ....and this is coming from a guitarist who loves Yngwie Malmsteen, Eric Johnson, Brian May, Jason Becker, John Sykes, John Norum, Vinnie Moore, Misha Calvin and many more. I don't care who plays the solo, if it has musical value and elevates the song in some way, I will listen to it.

      LOL well there are no plans to modify it.. yet. I like the pickups actually. I could have bought the version with the Shawbucker in it (I've heard great thing about that humbucker!), but I wanted a more pure Strat experience. It's definitely different from what I'm used to, but it's inspiring to have different tones than the usual, to work with :)

    Section 2. I hear economy picking of 3 hammeron-pull-off trills on D string fret 9 to 11 / repeat on 8 9 on G string / repeat on 9 11 on G string.
    You're playing unwound 1 2 3 string set in which the unwound open B tone is wrong for the lick. Signed your elder guitarist.
    Section 3. it's just down stroke hammer from 9 to 11 on G string followed by an upstroke after each one.
    That puts your pinky finger right over fret 12 on B string for the descending chromatic enclosure lick. Not tryin to be fancy that's simply what it's called if this is a jazz class.

      Interesting take on it bro, but if you watch live footage of Neil playing the solo, he plays that section as I describe it. For example, do a search for "Pat Benatar Hit Me With Your Best Shot Live on Fridays", and you can see it clearly :)
