They filmed this at my first high school after it had been closed down. It was also used for the drivers ed scene in the movie Valley Girl. Would hang around and watch them film. Lou Gossett was always very nice and friendly to us. RIP.

I only vaguely remember this show. More so the name than any actual episodes. I don't think my family watched this. Watching this trailer immediately made me think of I Am Number Four (the movie not the books), in which there was a similar set up. I wonder if the author of the books or the screenwriter was inspired by this show. Having not read the books, I have no idea if there were any major differences between the two.
Yuri in one episode it was revealed the powers had weaknesses. One the enemy knew was they did not work when Mathew was unable to see. His father’s powers were so advanced they could work in the dark. But they may have had other weaknesses the enemy took advantage of.
I always did like the opening to this series when they show the enemy spaceships firing their lasers on the planet. One of the spaceships does look a little bit like the one used in Battle Beyond the Stars.

Judson Scott star of the short lived series Phoenix played an Alien Villain with super human strength in the only episode that can remember from this series. I believe he was crushed by stack old cars in a junkyard by Star using his mind powers. Scott was also in Blade he was Dragon Eddies Assistant on the Vampire council.
Actually, I remember An Officer and a Gentlemen coming out first, my friend. That movie premeired in '82 and TPOMS came out late '82 or early '83 on NBC.

This brings back a lot of memories. I was 13 and in eigth grade when it first aired on NBC (Channel 5 in Chicago).

From the 1982-1983 season when it first aired on NBC...this is from the first half-season episodes.
It really puzzles me why they did an overhaul of the series for the last 10 episodes from January to April 1983.

As far as Peter Barton's role as an actor in this series was concerned, I always felt that most of the work was done by his hairdo.

It's like all the budget went into the first 40 seconds of the intro for the spaceship stuff and Star Wars sound effects.

Paramount owns the tv series.
But TV Land Canada DOES show programs like this of this vintage, all of the time now-although they show each program TWICE an hour.
