One thing that caught my eye...That really clean and shiny rear subframe had a "Volvo Genuine Spare Parts" label on it, suggesting that the car may have been in an accident serious enough to require subframe replacement. I don't think factory installed parts have a "Genuine Spare Parts" label, but I could be wrong about that.
These are labels on original parts from factory, and in a long run It depends on cars usage and roads it has been on. I have xc70 from 1999 and still there are original labels on rear subframe, rear cv shafts, front cv shafts, front shock absorber, rear shock absorber, gearbox, angle gear... etc etc....ofcorse there are some missing, but still, i order some of my parts from those label numbers. The biggest queation is why bearing is out at only 93 000 miles....thats not right!!! In Euro spec brand new volvos those bearings should last atleast 400 000 kms it just cant go out that fast!!!!

Wow, as per this episode, this XC-90 averaged nearly 21,000 miles/year of use in its last 4 years. Recently I spoke with a contractor, owner of a 2019 Volvo XC-40 with 38,000 miles put on it and absolutely no technical nor mecanical problems/issues.
As a Volvo tech. The issues I’ve seen on these, regardless of engine. Upper ball joints, outer steering rods, top mounts and lots of software bugs. That’s about it. Underbody is pretty solid, they chew through brake pads and tyres quickly though.
Heavy beast, allowed to eat tyres and brake pads. Same for the steering and suspension parts. Software bugs . . . it's a given. Damn things have computers even for the hood latch (I made that up but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens to be true). Sadly most Asian makers are doing the same too.
Wizard, Wizard, Wizard... So i work at a huge Ford dealership. Hey I really wish I had a good , honest tech like you to work with. For most of my life I had a totally separate career while I did a little mechanic work on the side. I had no idea( until I started doing mechanic work for a living) how dishonest MOST shops are...unfortunately this includes the dealerships with their snake oils etc..When someone is needing mechanic work , about the best advice I can give them is to find you a good ,honest privately owned shop and stick with them. Your customers are very fortunate to have you PLUS all the knowledge you have on exotic cars...wow IMPRESSIVE! love the channel...only complaint is that you have reached that "FAMOUS" status which means you probably won't ever even read this comment.
Dally Singhson; Do a UOA and replace as needed. Or replace every 30k and be done with it. Volvo isn’t the only company doing this. The EPA mandates don’t help.
There is an override you can press to change the gears when the engine is turned off. You take a side of the passenger side plastic cover off the transmission console and there is a little plastic strap that you pull down for gear lock release.
2 years ago I bought 2007 Volvo xc90 with a 3.2 engine from the original owner he kept it well maintained it had 95,000 and sent I have it now it at 126,000 never changed transmission fluid do you think I need to change it?
I have two Volvo wagons that are original, a 850R and V70R. I have another 850 that's been RWD swapped with a turbocharged 3800 (bought a roller for 500 bucks, used parts laying around the shop, total prob less than 1000 bucks for a nice 850 that runs well and is simple to work on/easy to get parts powertrain wise). I've probably worked on more Volvo Semi trucks than anything Volvo though, we've bought/sold quite a few and even adapted a couple to replace the Internationals we were running for propane trucks. Drivers say they're the most comfortable/easiest to drive and they're pretty reliable/fairly simple so it's win-win.
I want to add to this, i know that Volvo has no service interval for the Haldex system, and the newer gen is really sensetive to dirt and grime getting into the system, could be a good service to do while having it there if not done
That has almost certainly been in some kind of accident, the rear subframe looks new because it is new, all the bolts in the rear appear to have whiteness marks on them showing they have been recently worked on and the subframe even had a Volvo genuine spare parts logo on it

Few things can soothe the scorn of non-payment from a client like a new car wizard video. Keep on with the good work my guy.
Hey Car Wizard and Mrs. Wizard -- thank you guys SO MUCH for your content. It has made this crazy pandemic much more palatable. I always look forward to your videos and now that you've introduced the Wizard Kitty Bun-Bun, hoping to see more of her too! She kind of looks like you, Wizard :)
love the dynamic with Mr & Mrs Wizard!
He had it for ONE YEAR. Problems manifest past the 5 year mark.
We just had an 2020 (or was it a 21?) XC40 come in for a service at my job and it had 90,000 miles on it... I couldn't believe it.
@@MDKN22 What?....Wow!!!😲. Talking about durability! That's incredible.
This is what I was expecting Mrs. Wizard to drive when she needed a new ride!
Greetings from Sweden, it makes me happy to hear you talk so highly of our national symbol.
Great company. I love how Volvo tests their cars and helps makes better roads!
We miss Saab. By the way, thank you for Scania lorries.
What so you think about Volvos insistence that its gearboxes do not need servicing this shortening the life expectancy of their vehicles?
Dally Singhson; Do a UOA and replace as needed. Or replace every 30k and be done with it. Volvo isn’t the only company doing this. The EPA mandates don’t help.
Thanks Bob!
Sweden here!
Älskar din kanal / love your channel 😉 🇸🇪
Car Wizard and Mrs Wizard joined by - drum roll - the Cat Wizard 😺
Every day is good day if the Wizard posts a new video.
A Swede waves back! I love this series.
I want to add to this, i know that Volvo has no service interval for the Haldex system, and the newer gen is really sensetive to dirt and grime getting into the system, could be a good service to do while having it there if not done
That has almost certainly been in some kind of accident, the rear subframe looks new because it is new, all the bolts in the rear appear to have whiteness marks on them showing they have been recently worked on and the subframe even had a Volvo genuine spare parts logo on it
Yup, I thought that. The spares label gave it away.
The whole underside looks almost new to me, except the rusty exhaust
Interesting
Yep, no way that rear end is a 90000 mile old rear end.... it’s waaaay too clean.
Andy Guest where do you see it?time frame ?
Hello from Sweden. Great to see a Swedish car on the channel!
Made in China 😅
@@bostonbruinsfanboy Made at Torslanda fabriken, Gothenburg , Sweden.
If it'd been an S60 it would've been built in Ridgeville USA.
@@bostonbruinsfanboy compared to Apple products made in China, Volvo has these car factories operational at the moment:
Torslanda,
Sweden, Manufacturing
Ghent,
Belgium, Manufacturing
Shah Alam,
Malaysia, Manufacturing (since 1967)
Chengdu,
China, Manufacturing (since 2013)
Daqing,
China, Manufacturing (since 2014)
Luqiao,
China, Manufacturing (since 2019)
South Carolina Factory USA, Manufacturing (since 2018)
XC90 is made either at Torslanda, Sweden or Shah Alam,
Malaysia for asian customers, For NA market its Torslanda, Sweden as the flag in the seat showed.
Boston Bruins FanBoy nope not the xc😉 but yeah it sucks we’re not building all of them here no more.. still it’s highly supervised by Swedish tech’s over there.
@@bostonbruinsfanboy Nope, The XC90 is not produced in China. Either Sweden or Malaysia. For US marked I'm quite sure it is Sweden. The S60's for the EU and US market is now a days produced in the US, in South Carolina. That model also has a production line in China, but mainly for the Chinese market. But I think that is a longer variant since that is very popular in that market. Don't think Volvo sell any Chinese made cars in the US under its own name. Polestar is a different story, but is considered its own brand these days.
Swedish subber here 👊🏻🇸🇪 love the xc90. Such a presence on the road when you see it.
Great teamwork Mr and Mrs Wizard.
Just want to say we all appreciate the work you and your wife do, Mr. & Mrs. Wizard. Have a great Labor Day weekend!
Swedish viewer that appreciates the shout out! Great channel :)
what's happened to the old mercedes that needed partial re wiring amoung other jobs?
He promised "a load of videos" on it and didn't do any, just one summary video explaining what he replaced and why it cost twice as much as it should have lol.
We had a stray cat show up to our house for weeks that we named Honeybun. ‘‘Twas an appropriate name when we found out she was pregnant! We fostered her and her kittens and then they were adopted out (Well except for the one our daughter made us keep). You Honey looks like a sweetie and the Wizard looks like the type of guy to let her nuzzle up on a cold night!
Thanks for the video Wizard, was happy to be introduced to your kitty 🐈
Who would have guessed that someday, Volvo would be making more attractive crossovers than BMW?
BMW stuck in the past with their BORING design.
Alfa on the other hand has simply a timeless design, because they changed nothing on the front.
The changes BMW is making just looks as BMW is just lazy.
@@VampirusX BMW has a horrible new design taste with the new front grills so can't see how it's the same, compare a 2004 7 series to a 2020 7 series, and Alfa is pretty much dead lol nobody cares about their mediocre quality cars.
Such a lovely car - under the boot/trunk floor the plastic reinforcement is shaped like a spider web with a little spider, the Swedish flag is awesome . Great video as always Wizard
“Its pineapple mrs. wizard!”
My wife drives a 16 t6 inscription and it’s been flawless
Great video! Would love to see more volvos on the channel. Greetings from sweden
Wayho he shouted us out! I saw the volvo sticker above the control arm it was in Swedish. Oh well getting all giggly here :D Wizard is touching Swedish cars hahah
Enjoying your videos and bits of Wizard Wisdom
10:08 WOW a Stand by Me reference, that movie hits hard if you watch it as an adult
Perfect video after finishing work on my '88 740.
I can't wait to get my '86 760 Turbo out of long term storage and back on the road again. I miss that turbo lag and push button 5th gear so much!
@@TIMMEH19991 Mine has been sitting for most of the summer, been busy with work and work related injuries. Had to do some suspension work and put on the lower chassis brace from ipd. Definitely miss how comfy and fun this car is to drive. Especially when I hear the turbo spooling up. Mine is auto for now, may change in the future.
Yes !! nice to see a car from my country!
It's cool seeing someone inspect the car you have
I love Volvo! I have a V40 and so far it has been really good!
Shug new, and I love every bit of it, make sure to get the premium audio, it's good!
Thanks for the Volvo tour. Impressive!
Euroasian Bob's website blew a gasket!!
I loved this video shows honest work. Nice cars and nice to see common issues or what’s happening with one.
Hey Wizard, I know from having one as a hire car that I’d you turn the car off, then, turn the ignition on by turning the start switch but with your foot OFF of the brake, once the ignition is on by engine not running, put your foot on the brake and the shifter will move to N. You the electric parking brake will also come off if the ignition is on, engine off, foot on the brake and press the button to release the parking brake.
Also, why aren’t the “Thor’s hammer” DRLs working in your video? Those really add to the look of new Volvos.
I wasn't sure that I wanted to see a video about a Volvo, but then I saw this beautiful cat!
@7:24, can hear somebody's microwaved lunch is ready 😂
That rear cradle has been changed
Looks like it was wrecked to me.
Sure has brand new. That's why the wheel bearing has gone.
@Stimpy&Ren I reckon it was some debris in the road or something that caused damage to the underside
I used to worry a bit about that 2.0 supercharged and turbocharged engine, but after 5 years or so of Volvos using them and ramping up the miles they really seem to be holding well
Wow wizard you have a Persian Cat!! I love Persian cats! I have 4 ginger Persian cats!!!! She is beautiful! I had a beautiful 17 XC90 but unfortunately it was in a flood and totaled. My lease on my Mercedes E300 is up and I’m thinking of getting another new XC90 again, they lease very well ! Great video!!
"Synthetic coolant flavor, Mrs Wizard! Mmm."
great lighting under the car. thank you
Euroasian Bob sure did own a nice xc90
Honey is cute
How reliable have been those new volvos? And how is the cost of ownership? They are really nice cars and would like to own one. I am a mechanic myself and know about fords and chryslers, but not too much on volvos.
To anyone still seeing this, you can stop the engine in neutral by holding the ignition knob in the stop position.
Love, love, love that XC90!!!
That's probably the cleanest car I've seen underneath.
fiberglass transverse leaf spring in rear, they started doing that in the late 90s with the 960 and S90/V90
Lots of new tech in those cars.
I’m really happy with my -16 XC70.
Comfortable and sturdy like a tank.
Always incisive comments/ questions from Mrs W.
I sold my old 940 last year and was thinking of getting an S60 but still unsure of the Volvo's new four cylinder engine. Still wishing Volvo would have kept the five cylinder like I have in my XC70. I'll probably still buy a newer Volvo, just because I love them so much.
