He was only 25 or 26 years old at the time. Just starting to break in America with the Heartbreakers. The more interviews he did the more accustomed to them he became.
Tom wrote so many songs during the 70's but none are dreary or mellow like the pervasive sound of the period beginning in the solemn 60's billowing from the wayward languid Beatles. Only Country music sounded upbeat during this time. Tom and Roy Orbison are 2 of my favorites
The best rocker of all time…was not a phony cell in his body…the man oozed pure American rock n roll since birth…NOBODY flew that flag for rock higher and louder for REAL MUSIC like Tom Petty…those of you who are casual fans, I urge you to delve into his stuff from 1999-2017…most casuals don’t know what absolute masterpieces he released…blues, country, rock, acoustic…I agree with George Harrison when he said he’s never been around or heard of a songwriter/artist as good as Tom Petty
Bob Dylan gets so much credit while Tom is marginalized but to me, there's no comparison; Tom is the best. I loved him the first time I discovered him back in the late 80's in NYC as a teen. He is the summation, the paragon of what American rock n roll is supposed to be
Tom Petty met Elvis when he was 11. It sucks that Elvis didn’t really get to see him take off. He died the year before Petty really broke through in a huge way
He may seem a little shy here, but just try to f with him or his ppl. His toughness is actually not what I wanted to say though, it's about his drive and leadership. He's 26/27 here, and you can tell he's one of those guy's that is going somewhere, and his capabilities are well beyond his chronological years. The Traveling Wilbury's had all the guy's that were at the forefront of RNR, (The Mt Rushmore's), but it seemed like they had as much or even more respect for him.
A little unusual to see Tom so shy, but even despite that he was extremely talented and held down a great and humble persona. Love him and the band ❤
Just humble
He's not being shy... I think he's just having a nice chill convo, and is probably a little bit chillaxed on some things😂

I first heard TPaTH at this time. ♥️ Loved him since!
We miss you Tom until we meet again ❤
Whispering Bob Harris a legend
He scares me...🤣
Tom Petty wrote the soundtrack to America.

A few insights into Tom's thinking.
