@@spencer2745 That's true. But going back on it & doing it again is so fun. I love both games soooooo much. I prefer these 2 games over any wwe game now a days
No WWE game has had a Season Mode as expansive as this. I remember never, ever getting tired of this game back in the early 2000s and I just enjoyed the hell playing through the Season Mode and all the other game modes. There were a lot of playable characters, unlockable outfits, and new modes + arenas, too! This WWE game just hit the perfect spot of enjoyability back in the day and I will always be thankful to have enjoyed this game. 👏🏼
Oh my bad, for some reason I thought it was. I’d still like to hear more bout the story mode only being three matches tho?? Why’d they make it that way? That seems hella strange
@@MurphyMurks530 I'm wondering the same thing. There was so much they could have done with story mode. Hopefully, someone can make a hacked version of this game that could enhance story mode. I doubt it, but it would be nice.
Phenomenal season mode! Loved that the guy I took to the top could still be the top guy when I started a new season mode. Made it feel like what I did mattered

The fact that the tune at the end of this video gave me goosebumps, just shows how strong the nostalgia is with them glorious season modes from back in the day. Damn I feel old now...
I think everyone has their own opinion on what makes wrestling games fun. In my opinion it’s freedom that excels it. Smackdown shut your mouth and here comes the pain had tons of it too. When you can roam around back stage, interact and start your own fueds, your allowed to win or lose any match and based on whether you win or lose could change your story. Climb the ranks and go for titles, defend the title in challenging title defenses and just be able to create your own legacy and your own fueds and rilvaries. That makes them fun. What makes them suck is like 2k18 where you’re forced to win certain matches, stories can only go one way no matter what choices you make, when you have no freedom at all and can’t compete for different titles. When the game ends after you finally win the world title and you can’t defend it at all or when the game forces you to lose in certain circumstances or win. My personal opinion, a good wwe game has freedom and creativity. A good wwe game has the story mode that doesn’t end until you want it to end.
SYM and HCTP had great branching stories that you follow with any wrestler. That was the appeal for me. Even when I knew the story I'd play through with different guys. Then there superstar exclusive stories like Austin choosing brands and Triple H returning.
Such an amazing game. I feel honoured to have been grown up with games like this. What I love is that no matter if you're in the major storyline or not, your superstar always feels involved in some way with the season, and especially the use of previous storylines with videogame twists. Despite the ever change landscape of the WWE during 2002, THQ and Yukes did the best that they could to bring about an incredible experience.
I remember playing as Hardcore Holly. Winning the Undisputed Championship then a month later dropping it in that 6 man Hell in the Cell battle royal they made you do. It was so hard winning that match and when you did you were rewarded by Triple H coming out and beating your ass lol
Wow mate, thank you for this video. A big thumbs up. You just reminded me how awesome wwe shut your mouth is. I am definitely going to replay the season mode after watching this awesome video :).
Agreed, I liked the 1st 4 months. Shame they ditched the brand-split later, but I guess they didn't have enough of a roster to fill 2 years of fresh feuds, so they needed you feuding with all of those guys.
2:52 Look at how good that Matt Hardy looks, capturing how he looked in 2002 compared to the one in WWE 2k20, which just looks weird compared to the real Matt Hardy of 2019.
Dead on about everything about SYM, and the teaser at the end also 100% - HCTP had a season mode I absolutely loved - and my favorite part as a geek who grew up on NHL94 - i LOVED HTCP's rollover stats - having sean o'haire become a 100 time champion was one of my crowning achievements because it just kept looping. Loved both of these games. Can't pick up a 2k game at all by comparison - not as user friendly and not as engaging.
Well said, man. And very comprehensive! I forget the games that far back sometimes, even though I’m guessing I reviewed it for GI. And what an improvement over the year before. You aren’t lying that some ideas take a couple years to come to fruition. Great video!
The thing that make me love the season mode....u can pick who ever supertar that u want to highlight on...and the random story inside outside season...
The first 4 months are gold. I used to hate getting to August and having to do the brand changing storyline. Flair Vince storyline was so annoying. Still the best season mode tho
I have great nostalgia for SYM's season mode but when I've gone back to play it, I don't think it's perfect. It had amazing features for the time which still shine when compared to today. But nobody talks about certain things like the fixed difficulty when you first start season mode. Play on the hardest difficulty? Well too bad. The first 2 months of your season will be ridiculously easy before the CPU will eventually show some challenge. The problem with this is that you can play as pretty much any wrestler & you'll be in contention for the Undisputed title in your first few months. There feels no struggle & build to be a midcarder in season mode. Even the midcard titles feel pointless. IC, European & Hardcore titles can be won. But you'll get sucked into storylines throughout the year constantly to challenge for the Undisputed title, so you'll barely defend your midcard titles throughout the year. Sometimes you'll even forget that you're still the IC/Euro/HC champion because you'll be in contention for the Undisputed title or defending your Undisputed title, or you'll be in a storyline such as the McMahon vs Flair feud & the nWo. It can be months before the game will go "Oh yeah. You're the IC/Euro/HC champion. You'll be randomly defending your title tonight with no storyline around it. If you manage to defend your title, look forward to the next title defence 6-12 months from now" The season mode also has hilariously unrealistic title contention matchups. I once played as the Undertaker as the Undisputed champion, & I remember being put into a storyline with Spike Dudley in which he was kicking my arse around the storyline that I was put in. Yes.. Spike Dudley, beating up the Undertaker 🤣 & seeing him constantly brag to Taker that he's gonna win his title at the next PPV. Hilarious. You'll get other stuff such as Rico beating up Brock Lesnar, Maven beating up Stone Cold & Test beating up The Rock. It just makes the ranking system in season mode feel pointless at times. Smackdown 1&2 had way better rankings for title contention & divisions. I noticed you mentioned the brand draft being a great inclusion but it looses its potential throughout the year. HCTP improved greatly on this, as in that game, RAW & Smackdown feel like 2 completely different shows with different rosters. So yeah, I think the season mode in this game is glorified on its features which were great, but it's no way perfect in my opinion, which is what most people would have you believe. I do feel like it was a great way to show what Yukes can do which became way better in HCTP in every way.
I played the SYM Season Mode with my created superstar. Was WWE Champion for 3 years straight. Last match at Wrestlemania was a tag team match with Hulk Hogan and Kane.
Instead of building on these absolutely wonderful ideas they had back then and improve them in every aspect, they decided to move on to new but more lacklustre, boring, and plain ideas which backfired to their faces. I hope they got their lesson and WWE 2k22 will reminds us these glorious days of such real gems of the past

Drafting your own rosters and being able to walk around and interact. The freedom that you had in a game was revolutionary of the time. After this graphics and gameplay got better, but there was less roaming and less of the customizable aspect until GM Mode came along.
I remember playing season mode in sym repeatedly after one is completed, because grinding as a created superstar to a huge level superstar was so fun in this game... and I will never forget the invasions from different brands and NWO was so amazing, while htcp was fun too because it had a lot more better roaster like John cena , Rey mysterio, Goldberg, etc, story mode in both games were awesome! Best story mode of all time, and to top it off, you get the best credits of all time at the end of it. Just another reason why THQ crap all over 2K when it comes to wrestling games. There's also a cool story if you are WWE champion in the 2nd May where you get offered the chance to take time off to do a film then answer some questions with dialogue of choice from JR. As Undertaker, I told him I was bringing a new album out soon.
In the nWo storyline or arc, Scott Hall is replaced by X-Pac (because what happened during the "plane ride from hell" incident). Which was kinda of a bummer for me.
I disagree regarding SvR 06 and 07 being "Top tier"...they were too repeatitive and heavily scripted because of the voice acting (the branching paths were also too limited).
I loved this mode! It was weird though playing as the ONLY woman on the roster. Can anyone recommend a mod for Shut Your Mouth that update the game and makes other women appear in season mode? My CAW felt out of place in that sausage fest :3
I don't know about mods but I know you can fill the roster with CAWs. If you made enough females you would probably end up in fueds with at least a few of them.
I just recently started playing this games season mode. I didn't have it as a kid. I've only played 2 PPV's so far but a problem I'm already seeing is only being able to unlock one item per PPV. Does that mean I'm gonna have to play through this mode 6 times to unlock everything? If so that's a grind I'm not sure is worth doing unless there's some trick to unlock more than 1 item at a time upon completing a PPV?
Hi, I'm a concerned citizen and I'd like to see Johnny, controlling Diamond Dallas Page in the game WWE Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth, talk to reverend D-Von about his building fund, because I really wish the youth of America would have a nice place to go someday.
Aint gonna lie i got both smackdown shut your mouth and here comes the pain. I never could put here comes the pain long enough to know what the storyline of this was looking back i shouldve gave this game a chance
How do you unlock backstage arenas like locker room and world things like that there isn't hints or anything only thing I'm stumped on I have won a backstage brawl visiting every area but nothing
Bruh everyone says you get better stories if you aren't a champion but after getting screwed out of my belt the game has stopped giving me stories and stopped giving me any matches on any pay per view shows

Hey You're Back
WWE New York is now called the Hard Rock Cafe
I just recently started playing this games season mode. I didn't have it as a kid. I've only played 2 PPV's so far but a problem I'm already seeing is only being able to unlock one item per PPV. Does that mean I'm gonna have to play through this mode 6 times to unlock everything? If so that's a grind I'm not sure is worth doing unless there's some trick to unlock more than 1 item at a time upon completing a PPV?
HELL YEAH!!! This is the perferct seassion mode. But is it as perferct as Dota2? 🤔
He is back again!
12 year old me spent hours playing this Season mode lol
Still the best WWE game to date! IMO
Def the best season mode!
Hi, I'm a concerned citizen and I'd like to see Johnny, controlling Diamond Dallas Page in the game WWE Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth, talk to reverend D-Von about his building fund, because I really wish the youth of America would have a nice place to go someday.
Great season mode.

Bruh everyone says you get better stories if you aren't a champion but after getting screwed out of my belt the game has stopped giving me stories and stopped giving me any matches on any pay per view shows
Is it possible to get
undisputed championship as 2 belts - wwf and wcw belts ??
Unfortunately not. There was plans for this early in development but it was changed to just the undisputed title before release.
@@ThisGenGaming I saw people write things like win every match against nwo and ask for title match , but later found that it is not true . And when you said it - it is 100 % . I have tried several times on my PS2 . Thank you for the information . Continue to make awesome videos - i am fan and subscriber ! 😀
What made story mode in Shut Your Mouth better??
The new development of season with a two year story and character build up compared to 3 matches in Just Bring It
Story's reflect 2001 and half of 2002 story lines during the WWE year
Graphics were great and fun play
I really wish I could play this game again
I LOVE this game!!!
