I dunno dude... I was 20 when the first "Smackdown!" game came out. And I am fully aware of how important wrestling video games were to WWF's takeover of the industry... However, I firmly believe it started BEFORE the first "Smackdown!" game came out, back when the WWF bought THQ, Yukes and AKI right out from under WCW to make "Wrestlemania 2000". Before that, WCW had the better video games, especially compared to "WarZone" and "Attitude"... "WCW/nWo World Tour" and "Revenge" were WAY ahead of them. And in '97 and '98, that's nearly all WCW had left going for them... After that, "Smackdown!" On PS1 definitely helped cement their position... but the Yuke's/AKI/THQ games on the N64 paved the way beforehand.
@@thisisnotachannel trust me, i agree... every kid in school was playing those n64 games, and it created many ppl that watched wrestling because of the games... but ps1 sold more consoles... if the first smackdown games sucked, it wouldve mattered

All these games, even the PS1 ones still hold weight. Sure some of the graphics and gameplay may be outdated but it’s still fun to go back to. I think aside from nostalgia, it has a certain style about it that today’s WWE games sorta lack. Could be the colors or the lighting. But the direction of the games are 1 of a kind.
I love how these games faced the entrance ramp just like the N64 games. Even Dreamcast's Royal Rumble faced the entrance ramp. That change of the camera angle was 💯% unnecessary in my opinion.
I have all first 5 WWF/E Smackdown videogames (Original WWF Smackdown! (PS1), WWF Smackdown! 2: Know Your Role (PS1), WWF Smackdown! Just Bring It (PS2), WWE Smackdown! Shut Your Mouth (PS2), and WWE Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain (PS2)). I have these WWE Smackdown games since I was a kid back then in the early 2000s.
Sure is. SYM led to HCTP. There is no HCTP w/o how great SYM is. Smackdown-HCTP was a build onto what SYM gave us. Just imagine if you could build the attributes on SYM like you could in HCTP. Wrestling bios has been going off lately with these videos, keep it up. Btw, the music you have for the main event for ppvs is awesome. It have that final showdown feel to it.
Just wanted to say that I absolutely love and appreciate your wrestling videogame videos man. They are my go to more often than not. Never forget how appreciated you are by your community and subscribers brother ❤
I loved Smackdown Just bring it. Till you see how much space it took up on your memory card. If you could find one. Had to free the space up for Metal Gear Solid 2.
Are you going to finish the SmackDown vs Raw series? I know they start to get repetitive and bleed into each other with each installment but selfishly I just want you to cover SvR 2007 cause that was the game that got me into wrestling and maybe the game I have spent the most hours on full stop 😂
I was the target demographic between SmackDown and SvR - the amount of hype and excitement I had waiting for the games to be released were are unexplainable. Especially when the games drop right during the school holidays made the feeling so much better.
Ah Here Comes the Pain's story mode. It was a double edged sword for me at the time. I loved that they were pulling angles from the shows and giving some depth to the game, allowing me to go "Oh I've seen that!" and play it out. But one thing that even at the time always disappointed me is just how storylines would resolve and never be mentioned again, regardless of the outcome. Like the "Faction" storyline the video left off on. Eventually yeah your Faction gets a title or two. And the manager goes to book you in an Elimination Chamber match with a rival faction with your title on the line. Now even though I overcame the odds and absolutely crushed the competition and proved "Yes, my faction is dominant" basically.... the announcers say "Well that's the end of the faction because they proved that only one person can be champion and you can't have a faction supporting a champion" basically. Like... what? The faction I spent like 3 months building up is gone just because... we retained the title in an Elimination Chamber match? Stuff like that always just hit me weird about the storymode in there. I could see the foundation of a good story mode but they needed more lasting consequences and momentum behind programs. Like if you are a single superstar who got a manager and eventually after a feud with said manager where you win them back to your side (as a manager or a lover)... they just never appear as your manager again. And are never mentioned being related to your character again.
You have a point w/ these Stories. Like when you beat Bischoff to death w/ a chair, or pummel him w/ your hands/feet. You mean to tell me, ERIC BISCHOFF, in storyline, would let that pass? Or when you whip his monkey @$$ in the cage, he'd just "let it go"?
Bruh it’s still the greatest season mode of all time hands down. I played this over and over for a long time until I’d done all the stories in the game.
I remember playing smack down 2 and being annoyed by the sim match load times and in my first season play through I had a match against good father 13 times in a row, I got a little bored with that, but I couldn’t wait to get back home from work to play it still

I went back there to get another copy but if I remember right it must've been an original copy (as some pirated game markets had them as well as pirated discs) but I was relieved to have passed King of the Ring. Side note... I thought the career was 6 years long, not 2 years??? I played through it for 6 years as Triple H. I do know for a fact though that SmackDown! - Shut Your Mouth is a 2 year season mode, but that was two games later on the next generation PlayStation. 🤷

In reference to SmackDown 1... I'm not completely sure if it was/wasn't mentioned during the review and I simply didn't catch it, so if that's the case I apologise. Please, either correct me in a reply, or tell me if you also remember the feature and/or like myself, have fond memories as a result. Anyway, I remember that in order to create your own wrestler (you can all deny this too, but we know every one of us thought the graphics were practically lifelike) and play through the season mode, you had to play the pre-season first. If I remember correctly, the last match you win to complete that mode was always yourself Vs The Dudleyz in a handicap match. Not based on a tag system either. Every 2/3 on 1 handicap match was always under tornado rules. Anyway, for some reason me and my Brother would always create a guy called "Dhyno/Dhino", spelled that way on purpose because we were big Rhyno/Rhino marks and I do love a cheesy pun. Anyway, it would always be the full combination and we'd have endless fun playing 50+ seasons as an ageless, merciless, humanless and perfect athlete of a Dinosaur that wrestled in the Wrestlemania main year after year after year against what was, by that time, the 70/80/90 year old versions of your Austin/HHH/The Rock etc that I must say, were looking remarkable for their ages! But yeah, to end it, the method was that every time and it never got old. (See what I did there?) 😜 Do others remember that? I hated those WCW Nitro and Thunder games. The graphics back then looked great, had it played like the N64 games, they'd be on the GOAT list. Seems like the PS1 titles just didn't want to give us Playstation heads that type of Wrestling at the time. The closest we got to N64's gameplay was Power Moves Pro-Wrestling and WCW vs The World

I also loved Wrestlemania: The Arcade game. I actually played it after In Your House. Which I preferred the roster for, but I liked them both the same gameplay wise.

My favorite is still SvR 2006, though... that GM mode is STILL worth playing today. And I still do... I have a nearly 20 year old one saved on my memory card... and I keep it current!
I used to have LOADS of wrestling figures as a kid, i would spend hours recreating my favourite matches and creating matches I never got to see etc, anyway wrestling games were cool but not very fun imo, that was until smackdown came along, smackdown was and still is in imo the best wrestling franchise of all time, obviously HCTP being peak.
