The LAN feels like an SSR replacement more than anything in my opinion. Keep in mind that for those looking for a metal housing IEM at this price with detachable cables, its either LAN, C2 or Lea, as other options are usually not as well tuned. Its a bright leaning neutral, in line with what the SSR was trying to do, has better technicalities than Chu, although not enough for most people to know.

Inexpensive earphones are getting very good, no doubt. What bothers me is their durability. Over the past five years I've had to toss a four pairs of earphones because they just stopped working (e.g., one side just stops producing sound, the cables fall apart, one BA driver fails). All these great sounding earphones (and reviews) are useless because they just encourage people to buy goods that fall apart a week after the warranty expires. Here's my challenge to the industry: design a great sounding pair of earbuds that can easily be disassembled and repaired by the consumer.
Well, firstly, most of iems (except for resin ones) can be safely disassembled and put back. Secondly, make one yourself, it's not that hard of a task. Fusion 360, next door resin 3d printing, enameled wire, some drivers and connectors from china is all you need. Maybe some filters and acoustic foam as well for tuning.
It should be noted that part of the reason for the Lan's price is that it's made from Steel rather than plastic.... Think about that.... like if the material is better, than of course the price would be more...

But see, I don't understand how that conclusion made sense lol. The Zero and Hola have very different tunings than the Lan. Not necessarily "better", just different. If you want something tuned like a Chu but not as budget feeling, you're not going to get that with any of the other IEMs in this video Its kind of a limitation of the letter and number rating scale, I get it, but even the tone of the vid makes the Lan sound like its obsolete in the market or something. Ive tried the Salnotes Zero, and I would never want to own one over a Lan because I prefer the sound of the Lan lol That being said, why no spring tips :(
Hear me out, the Lan is an upgrade to the SSR/SSP. The only reason to get the SSR/SSP is for the awesome cable, and you are left with IEMs that are arguably less useful than the waifu box; might as well throw them out if you have anything past the $100 range (which you probably do if you're spending $40 on a cable). I think the thin clear cable looks great on certain IEMs like the Blessing 2, and I haven't found any aftermarket cables like it. The Lan seems to have an improved version of the SSR/SSP cable with two tone colors, and upgraded metal splitter and plug. While the Lan is definitely mid for the price, at least it isn't absolutely useless. If it competes with the top $20 IEMs I'd say the cable is definitely worth the remaining $20.
the SSP is still quite good in my opinion if you need something that fits a little deeper, is tiny in the ear to use other over ear accessories or devices and with an arguably still decent tuning. its a little bloated and harsh, but still enjoyable in my opinion if you arent picky about vocals. the lan is definitely replacing the ssr though but the ssr is known more for its great technicalities for the price.

SSP is very bloated and shouty, though if you like a warm sound that has some slight screeching female vocals it aint too bad. The LAN is more neutral and extremely casual from bass to treble. maybe slightly bright.
I was a bit disappointed at how much the frequency response of the Lan matched the Chu. From the initial graphs I've seen online, I expected a real upgrade in the tuning department, with tamer upper midrange/lower treble and smoother upper treble, but your graphs clearly and undeniably show that they're basically identical. Still an upgrade from the chu, but the fact they removed spring tips is really, really bad, being that half of the value the chu had was in the tips, and now you're paying more and not even getting the same tips.
I dunno what happened with Giz's graph, but every other reviewer's graph shows the Chu and Lan's graph aren't alike, so you should look out for that (and for anyone reading this comment as well).

They did improve that. So it's got better technicalities. It's just not offering much in its range. That's the problem. You get a much better deal on the zero for just 10 bucks more
@@LuciferArc1 but there isnt any bright leaning options in the price range that offers a metal housing, detachable cable and a small housing aside from the LAN aside from SSR, at least not any that i know. It is a small niche, but it does slot in to the market quite nicely despite all the competition. It doesnt excel, just fills a very small gap in the market.
@@kaeroseon better off getting salnotes zero. If you wanna spend more then I'd just get the aria SE which is going to have even better technicalities and accessories. Even if you wanna go even further then I'd get the kato or blessing 2 and just stop there.
@@LuciferArc1 aria SE is more than double the price and I never argued that it did anything special in sound. But it did give some small advantages that isn't just sound and for those who appreciate it it's a nice alternative. And for normal people, 80 bucks is a lot for iems. Think of it as a slightly more premium feeling entry point rather than just pure sound.
@@kaeroseon I get what you're saying but it's better for someone new to spend 20 to see if they like that sound signature and then simply save for a better tier entry into better technicalities
I hate to say it, but your outro song is the reason I need to use headphones to listen to this channel. Everytime it comes on, my entire family gives me weird looks. It's too embarrassing and makes it hard to recommend the channel to others without making me look like a total weeb.
You can just exit B4 that
This is weeb discrimination
This thing is a worse SSR
How is it worse?
@@kaeroseon Less uppermids, Less warmth in the lower mids, more subbass, upper treble graph-wise seems sharp/piercing
@@Yiss8 isn’t the SSR known for being harsh? If so this is an improvement for most people. Obviously still comes down to personal taste though.
Well, that's a bit........Disappointing.
I've been very disappointed with the CHU. it's nothing stunning, sound flat and mehhh
That’s kinda the point. It’s not supposed to be a fun V shape but more neutral and natural. The truthear hola or CCA cra would be more fun and dynamic.
They are all the same more or less. Just get Etymotic and forget everything else. They all sound fake.
