Note - this video is now old. I ended up selling this bike and I bought a new 2022 R1. The new bike is now complete and there will be a final build video live on it soon.

Hey John, I found your videos from your tight tails review as I’ve been looking at them for the future for my brother’s bike and decided to subscribe. Sorry to hear about your crash, but glad you are getting back to it! Bike looks awesome! If you ever get out to the Midwest for any track days or races in the future, hit me up, I would be happy to come help you in the pits anytime!
If you happen to come across a set of wheels for an 18 R1, I know my brother has been looking to catch an extra set for spare tires for long trackday weekends, please give me a shout.
Anyway, good luck with your future riding! Keep us updated when you can.

Great looking bike! Can't wait to see it in action. Question- looks like you are running Lacomoto bodywork. On the right side I see you are running the Woodcraft frame slider. Did you drill the mid fairing on that side or notch out the bodywork to fit the slider? I've got Lacomoto on my R1 and would like to run the Woodcraft sliders but the bodywork wraps around the frame/motor mount on the right side.

Sorry to hear about the accident, as you said the recovery followed by COVID, it’s been a while for you. Obviously a talented rider, hard to have the bike sitting for so long. Just a quick question on your brembo t rotors, I read somewhere that the metal around the ‘t’ can be marred or distorted - the author hypothesised that either the triangular metal pieces are too soft or the amount of play allows the t to impact the triangle retaining piece. Have you had any issues, what’s your take on them?

I haven’t had any issues with the T Drives as of yet. I did sift through a box of tdrive parts that I acquired from a motoamerica team and I was surprised at how inconsistent some of the parts were from heavy use. Some of the carriers were warped and some of the rotors were warped. Overall I think it’s a really good rotor. There are some world superbike spec rotors that I’m looking at that which are thicker and go up to 7 mm and less weight for the rotor itself. Those only makes sense with narrow band calipers which is what I’m currently running. I’d like to get a write up on those soon so we can compare the two.

Are the Map 1 vs Map 2 differences documented anywhere? I was also planning to do the fuel 1/fuel 2 on that switch.

You can see both maps in the way EC software. Each one has its own settings for air fuel and also other things like trash control so there’s two areas we can enter all of those values.

@@KneeDownRider I thought you meant that the base maps in the background (that we can't see or access) differed between 1 & 2.

    Hey John
Really appreciate finding your channel. 2 question. Have you ever had engine or gearbox failure as on the first years of the R1 ?
Are you running both QS and blip through translogic?
    Thanks Tobias

I’ve never had a gearbox failure or an engine failure. When I bought my 2015 brand new I had the transmission recall work done. The issue with the 2015 engine is that the crank can float and sometimes collide with the counter balance weight. This doesn’t happen with all engines and some owners never have a problem. Personally I would not purchase a 2015 engine as Yamaha knew there was an issue and added a thrust bearing to the crank in 2016. The newer model has an entirely new crank in 2020
