For a medical show, it's kinda funny how wrong it portrays the effects of hallucinogens (House hallucinating in the shower was much more accurate). Which, ironically, based on my personal experience, is quite accurate: almost everyone on my mother's side of the family is a doctor or works in medicine and the one thing they have in common is that they know very little of how drugs (I mean DRUGS drugs, not the kind they prescribe to their patients) work or what their effects feel like. My Mom is a paramedic with a specialization is cardiology and ever since my early university days, one of our past times is her telling me about her cases and me explaining how different drugs work (either based on research or personal experience). In the past ten years, I've learnt how far a human body flies through a windshield, ways to diagnose appendicitis and the exact shade of purplish-blue color a person's face turns when they hang themselves, while she's learnt that weed isn't a psychedelic, the combination of crystal meth and certain local anesthetics can cause potentially fatal heart issues and that mushrooms aren't a stimulant like cocaine. She's repeatedly told me that throughout her six years of medical school, she had no formal training on the effects of recreational drugs.
When you're to become a paramedic, I'm sure knowledge like that can be extremely useful depending on the circumstance. Showing up to someone having used recreational drugs I'm sure isn't that abnormal.
@@onepureturtle Yeah I wasn't talking about mixing, I honestly don't even know that much about that part to speculate. But given how varied the effects of psychedelics are depending on the person, I can only imagine how unpredictable the reactions to various mixtures can be. The only time I've "mixed" recreational drugs was with weed and alcohol, and those two have a pretty predictable effect when mixed compared to other substances. I can't eve imagine what mushrooms feel like on E, they're pretty fucking intense on their own in my experience 😅
@@SharkyShocker Yeah, idk why they don't focus on teaching it in med school. Add to that the fact that if an ambulance is called, the patient is usually not in a state to say what they took. Based on her description, it might have been spice but the patient was pretty fucking drunk as well and lost a lot of blood too (car crash)
yeah, hallucinations aren't as extreme as this shows ... perspective just gets all disjointed and your brains is analyzing vision in a new way. If you Google "power of lighting GIF" and find the one with the woman, that's kinda what it's like. All that plus the mind stuff leads to weird realizations where you might say, "haha, you look like a rabbit right now" but that's because you're noticing rabbit like features on their face and connecting dots you normally wouldn't, not because you're literally seeing a rabbit in your vision.
