Don't miss the lighthouse at Tibbet's Point near Cape Vincent!

Thank you so much for adding this suggestion! :) I personally have yet to make it to Cape Vincent, but have wanted to go for a number of years now, especially during the French festival they have each summer. I bet the lighthouse is just fantastic to visit! (Melinda)

Lived in Ogdensburg, on the St. Lawrence 15 years. Summer is June - September, winter is forever!

Your comment made me giggle! :D It is oh so true! We have friends who lived in that region for a while, and to hear them talk of the Winter....oh my goodness. I thought Winter was bad in Rochester. They have said it's a whole other level up there. Yikes! (Melinda)

One Christmas, my husband and I rented a cabin at Wellesley Island State Park.
We hiked the trails. Went over to Alex Bay for a Christmas Eve service.
That wind out of Canada is fierce!
    Good memories.
Oh the things we do when we are young!!!

We were lucky enough to get a cabin this month at Wellesley and can't wait to spend a week on the river :)

Been there many many times and love it. ABay is a lot of fun, do not miss Bolt Castle it is awe inspiring. And the story behind the Castle is a heartbreaking love story. I also recommend hopping over the border for a day and visiting Gananoque , Rock Port or Kingston. Gananoque is nice to visit and has some interesting small shops and a casino. Try Muskie Jakes pub in the Gananoque Inn, it has good poutine. Kingston is a clean small city with a great active downtown, with some marvelous brew pubs. Rock Port is a bit of an artist colony. If you have the chance for a charter tour on a smaller boat ask to see the International Rift - a narrow cut in Wellesley island that straddles the US and Canada. If you are a true boat fan, you cannot miss the Wooden Boat Museum or a ride on that Hacker Craft. The Hacker is a good, safe boat but is not the driest boat made - you may get a bit of spray - but that is half the fun. And while you are in Clayton visit Bellas, a nice cafe/restaurant with a killer bakery. Get the kids some rods and let them fish, (check NY fishing license requirements) ) the waters are full of pan fish and the area is great for bass. As the narrator noted there are scads of bays and islands, get in the lee of an island and enjoy calm waters. The main channel can get very busy and a bit choppy but you are protected behind as island or in a bay. There are also a few wineries and a distillery in the area. I guarantee you will enjoy yourself unless you are a total grump.

I love your last line. lol Thank you so much for taking the time to add such wonderful suggestions and descriptions to our video. And now that the Canadian border has opened back up, I second your suggestion at Gananoque. We love crossing the border and spending a day or two there. Once again, thank you! :) (Melinda)

Great Job! We were married at Boldt Castle!!! We just started filming from our private island in Chippewa Bay about 12 miles north of Alex Bay. As you said, it's a seasonal life, and we have to close down in the late fall and winterize. Great job on the video production.

Been camping there on Wellesley Island for a week or two every year for the past 20 years.. this region speaks to my soul. Also bring the boat with us. Once there, all travel or at least 95% is done by water... I've gone from being lost out there all day to knowing the place like the back of my hand... great video! I love this place!! As we cross the 1000 island Bridge with the 5th wheel I'm like, ahhh... I'm home.

    • @Gate24Travel

Oh my goodness how we understand that deep soul contentment. There's no other place like Alex Bay/Wellesley Island. How wonderful you get to visit every year and soak in the Peace of the region. Thank you so much for your kind compliment! My husband hopes to retire to Alex Bay in about 9 years or so. It truly feels like home. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a great comment! (I'm sorry it has taken so long to reply. We've been aboard Oasis of The Seas and didn't purchase the WiFi package with Royal Caribbean. We were completely disconnected for a week.) ~Melinda

@@Gate24Travel thank you for the reply. I wasn't expecting one.. that was nice of you... and again that goes hand in hand with the people who live this area... my wife has left her cell phone at every bathroom I think in the Thousand Islands... Bolt Castle, Alex Bay, Clayton... this year we're shooting for Singer and we get all the way back to Wellesley before she realizes it lol.. but it was returned EVERY time! We've been talking about getting a little cabin or cottage (seasonal) there more and more as I get closer to retirement... in about 4 or 5 years.. I will be 51 and ready to stay there at least a few months of the year!

@@stepfour You're welcome! And love the cell phone story! I am not shocked at the outcome either. That area is a whole different way of life. And how awesome your plan sounds! Maybe one day we will all meet and possibly be neighbors! :D (Melinda)

Treasure Island gift and jewelry store on James street is unusual. It has lots of hand crafted jewelry plus very nice gifts. Not expensive either. Very fun to browse and they are friendly too. No I don’t own stick in the company.

Thank you so much for this suggestion/tip! ☺️ I haven’t shopped in there. We typically hit up the 5 and 10 store, A Bay International, and Good Dog Charlie’s. 😁 We may head that way the week of Labor Day. If so, I’ll have to check it out. 👍🏻 Thank you so much for sharing! ☺️

Im planning to go in a few weeks. If you get off of the boat at the castle for uncle sam, will that same boat bring you back?

    • @Gate24Travel
      @Gate24Travel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This is such a great question! If you choose to get off of the Uncle Sam boat at Boldt Castle, an Uncle Sam boat or shuttle boat will be available to take you back to Alexandria Bay after you've toured the castle and grounds. It may not be the exact same boat you were on. It may be one of their smaller shuttles. But you will definitely be taken back to Alex Bay on one of the Uncle Sam boats/shuttles. They run every half hour to pick up visitors at the boat dock of Boldt Castle, until the castle closes. They won't leave anyone behind though. They keep running until all visitors have made it safely off of the grounds and back to Alexandria Bay. I hope you have a lot of fun while you're there! Thank you for asking this question! :) ~ Melinda
