@@dirtycaveman1454 the wired version or wireless? This headset has more bass for sure, much much much better build here, and comfort. Directional sound is very different. With the SS being way more focused on highs, you pick up small reloads/footsteps easier. But these have such a pure space feeling. Man it's so hard to explain, lol

I have this and this is NOT a gaming headset only. This replaced my Audeze LCD 1 and Sennheiser HD6xx as my main drivers for music listening. Works really great with tube amps too. Now I switch between Audeze Penrose and Steelseries Nova Pro Wireless as my main PS5 / gaming headphones just because I don’t like the cables.
Great question! I'd Love to know the answer to that! If you find anything please respond, bc neither my phone nor tablet have audio ports, so I could only use these VZR's on my PS5... *Which makes them feel Even more expensive!*
I have the Audeze Penrose (which are wireless) and they so far have the best sound I've heard of any PS5 gaming headset. *But they're just not that comfortable comparatively. Although after modding them like Techne's other video shows, comfort did improve dramatically! (Still not what I'd call super comfortable, but so much better!!) *Also after putting on the Wicked Cushions Freeze ear pads, the sound stage sounded so much bigger and better! I'd love to see a video comparing the sound between the VZR & Penrose*

I don’t mind spending money on a good set but nobody seems to be able to make a good all around headset which is baffling. I also don’t care if wireless wont sound as good as wired, the convenience of no wires for couch play is more than worth it

Dang! I finally pulled the trigger on the Audeze Penrose (& modded it exactly as you did with the geekria Headband & Wicked Cushions gel ear pads) just to make it bearable enough to actually wear. (But bc they're still not very comfortable, I just bought the Kaira Pro Dual wireless PS5 one's for comfort. *But I really wish this video would have come out sooner cause after seeing that, I'm sold on these! But not sure if it makes sense to get these now, or not? I feel torn. (I also have the HyperX Alpha white & purple headset too (with Wicked Cushions gel ears pads) But I love Bass & you made these sound great! What'd ya think, get these as well???*

These headsets are really nice. I miss the days when I can wear one but I can't anymore due to nerve pain, even the most gentle/soft headset clamp triggers it. Now I can only play using earphones which is also great but not the same as headsets specially on sound imaging or pin pointing sound cues for I mainly play FPS games.

I’m looking to upgrade from my h510s. I picked them because of an old review you did a while ago. My price range was $50 at the time. It’s clear you know a lot about headphones because they have been great but after almost 2 years I think It’s time I go with something that has better directional audio and a bit better sound. The vzr’s look sick but are way out of my price range what would be your recommendation for a good gaming headset with a decent mic that has great directional audio (for games like csgo and tarkov)and is comfortable for around $150?

For users who don't mind a wire it's a perfect headset. But I can't swallow that price tag if it's not wireless. I understand true great sound comes with wire sacrifice though.
I think they should have added it with the inline mic and mute function. The mic sounds really bad on xbox. It cuts in and out and the mic volume sounds low to me. These are some of the most comfortable headphones/headsets I own though. The sound quality and directional audio is awesome!
But aren’t people going to plug this into a Dac/Amp anyway? These are really audiophile grade gaming headphones, not plain ‘ok gaming cans like a SteelSeries product

@@SaggyDaiper It's a huge difference, You just can't beat a good wired headset. It has a lot more bass and the sound stage is significantly wider. For the price I'd choose this one, There is nothing better that I've tried.

@@mr.benlaw I’m mainly using them on consoles for gaming and on my pc for music and shows. It sounds great on both. It’s definitely a more immersive headset, so you’ll definitely get a theatrical experience with them.
The headset overall is great. However the mic is a- or b+. My corsairs have superior mics. It’s so annoying that a company can’t come out with a headset with a+ for all things instead of letting the mic be not as good.
@@BeHempy I did a quick search and comparison and reviewers give the MX300s some decent reviews, but I can hear how the mics are better in the corsair series. Techne did a review of the 100/150s and hated the comfort. In the end, they seem like good headsets, but they don't quite get to Corsair mic quality.
Hey techne, you should check the Philips Fidelio X2HR(130€) and V-Moda BoomPro mic(35€) combo, I feel like this is the best value you can get, probably the best option for under 200€ both for gaming and other usages
I am using the Fidelio X2`s in combination with my Shure MV7 for one year now, and i really like the sound too. The only thin i hade to switch the earpads to thicker ones and i had to stretch them a bit out, cause the clamping force was a little to strong for my opinion. But i got them on amazon sale for only 99€ so it was a really good deal. Wireless i use the Steelseries Novas.

I would say yes as a complete package, but sound is very different from the two. As for unit quality, I would put it up against the Audeze LCD-gx, that good! but the sound defiantly has more bass here
PenroseX get louder and brighter. These are warmer and at first they will sound faint, but give them time and eventually you will see they have better overall sound (but just not as loud). In games at first I wanted to jack the volume knob up that doesn't exist (coming from PenroseX and Nova Pros). But eventually I came to find that you actually hear more overall sound (further sound stage) without the blasting a PenroseX gives you. The spacial audio is amazing compared to my PenroseX. My only negative is the mic, mines was shorter than what's shown here so maybe they've adjusted already to complaints. Nobody can ever hear me on Xbox with my mic. I'm in the process of returning them because of it, but if they have a better option with a longer mic, I'd definitely keep them.
@@Kmart2180 thanks for the info. That’s too bad about your mic. I was wondering how “driveable” these are with a controller or straight motherboard audio. I have a soundblaster g3 I use for a bit more juice and to add a volume knob to headphones that don’t have one.
@@TheTechne I really enjoy them, I have used astro a40/50's, Artics Pros (wired), Razer Black shark V2 and a few others. With the VZR in games like Warzone and other FPS games they really help with positional accuracy. They dont make you hear more but they do help me place other players in the space around me. Also great for music!!!
Waiting for my pair to arrive from States but the mic has me a little concerned. I'm currently using the HyperX Cloud 2 and this mic is one of the best mics on a headset I've ever came across. Is there anyone that can give me some personal opinion on the mic on this headset?

Please incorporate 'streaming' in all your gaming headset reviews. That is to say, is the microphone 1. Good enough for audiences 2. How well can multiple headsets work together in a single computer for group streaming.
I’ve been eyeing these off for a fair few months, great to see a bunch more reviews are coming out on them. I’ve been using Audeze Pernose X for for nearly 2 years, don’t get me wrong the sound quality is phenomenal just find the sound stage is too tight. Might be time to pull the trigger on the VZR model ones.
You won’t regret it I’ve probably spent 5500$ over the last year and I can comfortably state that this was the headset that has finally won the battle of battles I have never been so situational aware in games then I have with these and listening to music is a whole new animal to top off this is the peak of of peaks.

Honestly, the biggest thing holding most great headsets back, for me, is currently the lack of Bluetooth or crap implementation of it. Unfortunately I need that feature so I can play on PS5, while chatting on Discord via my laptop. I sync them up with both and it's nice. I truly hope, that some day, Discord becomes a native app, on consoles, because that would open up so much. I would totally become a wired headset gamer, whether be the Arctis Nova Pro, straight from the console or these right into the controller. I does bite that a bit depends on having Bluetooth, and I'm honestly surprised there isn't a hybrid wired/Bluetooth headset so I can have the superior sound quality of wired, while also syncing up for Discord. I can dream.

@@District.24 not compared to the competition. The only good mics on gaming headsets are found on the corsair ones but those have other issues. So taking in the build audio and everything else its not as bad. Just look at the nova pros.
These look SOOO familiar to me but I can't quite place where I've seen the design before but it seems like it was a HEADPHONE that was WAAYYYY more on the cheap side. That aside, lol, that MICROPHONE for a $350 WIRED headset sounded like it was coming from a budget-to-mid-tier wireless headset mic. Was the mic boom perhaps turned around so that winsock guard "finger" thing was facing your mouth in a way that could have been blocking your voice a bit?
The mic is the worst part of this headset. On Xbox, no one can ever hear me. I'm in the process of returning mine because of it. Although my mic is half the size of the one in this review. Maybe the company upgraded a flaw that I received with my set.

But regardless for the price of these there are some super nice headsets that are wireless, have great microphones, and support bluetooth hi-res codecs. Like the HyperX Cloud Mix and Orbit S (which if Im not mistaken is just a rebranded Audeze headset), or even the new Steelseries he has been pushing on his channel lately,

I bought them and got a mic half the size of yours. Nobody can ever hear me on Xbox, for that reason I'm probably gonna return them. It's too bad cause the 3d spacial sound is unique. Love them for FPS's like Apex Legends. Also music is amazing with these. You can pinpoint each instrument or track layered. Something I've never experienced before with all my other headsets (PenroseX, Audeze Morbious, Turtle Beach, Nova Pro's). One thing that is a bit annoying is depending on what controller I use, the sound doesn't get loud enough on Xbox. Like there's no volume adjust on the headset so you are at the mercy of the Xbox volume adjuster in the home setting screen. On some controllers the sound is great, on other controllers it's faint. I might write the company and see what's the deal with the new mic, maybe enough people complained and they made it bigger/longer.
How about immersion wise for something like a rpg game, you think this is the best headset for that or did another headset u had sounded better for that?
I have to start out by saying Techne is awesome. So this post is not a reflection of him but rather the headset So this headset was so overhyped and very well reviewed at least how it was presented. I just got it in the mail today and it cannot stack up against my Nova pro wireless, audeze penrose x, my PC38x or even my turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 max. I’d say it tries to mimick the PC38x but the sound quality on the PC38x is clearer, a tad less bass but better than the VZR model one. The spatial 3d audio on the VZR was (meh). I paid $97 for my PC38x and I’m returning my $349, after tax $380 VZR model one for something better. I put this headset through COD Mw2 and Dune 4k with Jason Momoa. PC38x is the better headset for cod MW2 Nova pro wireless slays the new Dune 4k’s incredible sound stage and range. VZR model one does not, DOES NOT live up to the hype or advertising and it’s crosswave technology didn’t do anything the PC38x doesn’t already do with ease
Ok Michel and Vic at VZR are absolutely Amazing. They’ve been very kind to send me another VZR Model one to test and have given me some awesome homework to put it through it’s paces. They Truly do absolutely care about their product and us the consumer. Can’t wait to see what these can do with what VZR’s Team suggested. It’s quite possible that something was just off with my first pair. Looking forward to this immensely

In my opinion, I don’t think you can beat the customer service at VZR, but as far as the model one and the $300 price point, you’ll get a headset with crystal clear sound, but it doesn’t have the low end I need for all of my gaming and media needs. I bought the PC38x renewed through Amazon for $89 and I pair it up with the steel series wired pro dac amp for eq. EQ brings the PC38x to life.PC38x sounds great as is for gaming through my Xbox or PS5 controllers, but when paired up with a dac amp it’s incredible. I can now use it for movies as well since it’s plugged into the dac amp. If it were up to me, and you wanted fantastic audio, in the $300 price point: For Wireless I’d recommend: Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro wireless (Xbox version) Audeze Maxwell (Xbox version) Audeze Penrose ((Xbox version) Turtlebeach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max (Xbox version) For wired: SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wired Xbox version (comes with dac amp you can pair up any wired headphones with Drop Epos PC38x JBL Quantum One Remember that audio is subjective. @@Yoitsseb I wouldn't pay 350 for a headset. A wireless headset is worse in sound quality but has much more better other features like still being able to hear your friends or whatever you were listening too while taking a shit for an example.
im sure the quality on this is insane, but their color and finish choices make it look cheaper than it probably actually is with the white and plastic like looking silver on the joints. but regardless thats one banger right there.

Looks like you have one of the prototypes. They don't ship with that exact boom mic.

did you test the mic in xbox party chat? I've heard there is issues there.
For users who don't mind a wire it's a perfect headset. But I can't swallow that price tag if it's not wireless. I understand true great sound comes with wire sacrifice though.
I got these last week. They are awesome. I wish it had volume and game/chat on the head set or cable though to make quicker and finer adjustments.
they told me they didn't include a volume wheel because it would be another point to break up the sound, so keep it out to maintain the pure sound.
I think they should have added it with the inline mic and mute function. The mic sounds really bad on xbox. It cuts in and out and the mic volume sounds low to me. These are some of the most comfortable headphones/headsets I own though. The sound quality and directional audio is awesome!
But aren’t people going to plug this into a Dac/Amp anyway? These are really audiophile grade gaming headphones, not plain ‘ok gaming cans like a SteelSeries product

@@SaggyDaiper It's a huge difference, You just can't beat a good wired headset. It has a lot more bass and the sound stage is significantly wider. For the price I'd choose this one, There is nothing better that I've tried.

@@mr.benlaw I’m mainly using them on consoles for gaming and on my pc for music and shows. It sounds great on both. It’s definitely a more immersive headset, so you’ll definitely get a theatrical experience with them.

For gaming I have all 3, penrose x, nova pro, and VZR model one. These are 3 of the best gaming headsets but the VZRs sound the best.

The headset overall is great. However the mic is a- or b+. My corsairs have superior mics. It’s so annoying that a company can’t come out with a headset with a+ for all things instead of letting the mic be not as good.
I mean, Corsair mics make everyone’s mic’s look pathetic, not really a fair comparison lol
Beyerdynamic MX 300s are A+ everything IMO
@@BeHempy I did a quick search and comparison and reviewers give the MX300s some decent reviews, but I can hear how the mics are better in the corsair series. Techne did a review of the 100/150s and hated the comfort. In the end, they seem like good headsets, but they don't quite get to Corsair mic quality.

Hey techne, you should check the Philips Fidelio X2HR(130€) and V-Moda BoomPro mic(35€) combo, I feel like this is the best value you can get, probably the best option for under 200€ both for gaming and other usages
This has been my wired option for at least 2 years and my Penrose for wireless
I am using the Fidelio X2`s in combination with my Shure MV7 for one year now, and i really like the sound too. The only thin i hade to switch the earpads to thicker ones and i had to stretch them a bit out, cause the clamping force was a little to strong for my opinion. But i got them on amazon sale for only 99€ so it was a really good deal. Wireless i use the Steelseries Novas.
Nothing beats Audeze Penrose X

I would say yes as a complete package, but sound is very different from the two. As for unit quality, I would put it up against the Audeze LCD-gx, that good! but the sound defiantly has more bass here
PenroseX get louder and brighter. These are warmer and at first they will sound faint, but give them time and eventually you will see they have better overall sound (but just not as loud).
In games at first I wanted to jack the volume knob up that doesn't exist (coming from PenroseX and Nova Pros). But eventually I came to find that you actually hear more overall sound (further sound stage) without the blasting a PenroseX gives you. The spacial audio is amazing compared to my PenroseX.
My only negative is the mic, mines was shorter than what's shown here so maybe they've adjusted already to complaints. Nobody can ever hear me on Xbox with my mic. I'm in the process of returning them because of it, but if they have a better option with a longer mic, I'd definitely keep them.
@@Kmart2180 thanks for the info. That’s too bad about your mic. I was wondering how “driveable” these are with a controller or straight motherboard audio. I have a soundblaster g3 I use for a bit more juice and to add a volume knob to headphones that don’t have one.

@@TheTechne I really enjoy them, I have used astro a40/50's, Artics Pros (wired), Razer Black shark V2 and a few others. With the VZR in games like Warzone and other FPS games they really help with positional accuracy. They dont make you hear more but they do help me place other players in the space around me. Also great for music!!!

I’ve been eyeing these off for a fair few months, great to see a bunch more reviews are coming out on them.
I’ve been using Audeze Pernose X for for nearly 2 years, don’t get me wrong the sound quality is phenomenal just find the sound stage is too tight.
Might be time to pull the trigger on the VZR model ones.

You won’t regret it I’ve probably spent 5500$ over the last year and I can comfortably state that this was the headset that has finally won the battle of battles I have never been so situational aware in games then I have with these and listening to music is a whole new animal to top off this is the peak of of peaks.

Honestly, the biggest thing holding most great headsets back, for me, is currently the lack of Bluetooth or crap implementation of it. Unfortunately I need that feature so I can play on PS5, while chatting on Discord via my laptop. I sync them up with both and it's nice. I truly hope, that some day, Discord becomes a native app, on consoles, because that would open up so much. I would totally become a wired headset gamer, whether be the Arctis Nova Pro, straight from the console or these right into the controller. I does bite that a bit depends on having Bluetooth, and I'm honestly surprised there isn't a hybrid wired/Bluetooth headset so I can have the superior sound quality of wired, while also syncing up for Discord. I can dream.

@@District.24 not compared to the competition. The only good mics on gaming headsets are found on the corsair ones but those have other issues. So taking in the build audio and everything else its not as bad. Just look at the nova pros.

These look SOOO familiar to me but I can't quite place where I've seen the design before but it seems like it was a HEADPHONE that was WAAYYYY more on the cheap side. That aside, lol, that MICROPHONE for a $350 WIRED headset sounded like it was coming from a budget-to-mid-tier wireless headset mic. Was the mic boom perhaps turned around so that winsock guard "finger" thing was facing your mouth in a way that could have been blocking your voice a bit?

The mic is the worst part of this headset. On Xbox, no one can ever hear me. I'm in the process of returning mine because of it. Although my mic is half the size of the one in this review. Maybe the company upgraded a flaw that I received with my set.

But regardless for the price of these there are some super nice headsets that are wireless, have great microphones, and support bluetooth hi-res codecs. Like the HyperX Cloud Mix and Orbit S (which if Im not mistaken is just a rebranded Audeze headset), or even the new Steelseries he has been pushing on his channel lately,

The Mic quality is pretty poor
I bought them and got a mic half the size of yours. Nobody can ever hear me on Xbox, for that reason I'm probably gonna return them. It's too bad cause the 3d spacial sound is unique. Love them for FPS's like Apex Legends.
Also music is amazing with these. You can pinpoint each instrument or track layered. Something I've never experienced before with all my other headsets (PenroseX, Audeze Morbious, Turtle Beach, Nova Pro's).
One thing that is a bit annoying is depending on what controller I use, the sound doesn't get loud enough on Xbox. Like there's no volume adjust on the headset so you are at the mercy of the Xbox volume adjuster in the home setting screen. On some controllers the sound is great, on other controllers it's faint.
I might write the company and see what's the deal with the new mic, maybe enough people complained and they made it bigger/longer.

I think they started shipping longer mics later, so if you contact support they might be able to replace the mic, not sure though.

I have to start out by saying Techne is awesome. So this post is not a reflection of him but rather the headset
So this headset was so overhyped and very well reviewed at least how it was presented. I just got it in the mail today and it cannot stack up against my Nova pro wireless, audeze penrose x, my PC38x or even my turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 max.
I’d say it tries to mimick the PC38x but the sound quality on the PC38x is clearer, a tad less bass but better than the VZR model one. The spatial 3d audio on the VZR was (meh).
I paid $97 for my PC38x and I’m returning my $349, after tax $380 VZR model one for something better.
I put this headset through COD Mw2 and Dune 4k with Jason Momoa.
PC38x is the better headset for cod MW2
Nova pro wireless slays the new Dune 4k’s incredible sound stage and range.
VZR model one does not, DOES NOT live up to the hype or advertising and it’s crosswave technology didn’t do anything the PC38x doesn’t already do with ease
Ok Michel and Vic at VZR are absolutely Amazing. They’ve been very kind to send me another VZR Model one to test and have given me some awesome homework to put it through it’s paces.
They Truly do absolutely care about their product and us the consumer. Can’t wait to see what these can do with what VZR’s Team suggested.

In my opinion, I don’t think you can beat the customer service at VZR, but as far as the model one and the $300 price point, you’ll get a headset with crystal clear sound, but it doesn’t have the low end I need for all of my gaming and media needs.
I bought the PC38x renewed through Amazon for $89 and I pair it up with the steel series wired pro dac amp for eq. EQ brings the PC38x to life.PC38x sounds great as is for gaming through my Xbox or PS5 controllers, but when paired up with a dac amp it’s incredible. I can now use it for movies as well since it’s plugged into the dac amp.
If it were up to me, and you wanted fantastic audio, in the $300 price point:

@@Yoitsseb I wouldn't pay 350 for a headset. A wireless headset is worse in sound quality but has much more better other features like still being able to hear your friends or whatever you were listening too while taking a shit for an example.
