On this very day, I am learning of John Martyn for the first time. Watching this feeling like where have I been all my life? How could I not have known? 🎶
I sure hope you listened to more since the last three days I surely have been listening to John for years and every day I do it never lessens the impact or attachment I have with his songs,love them songs
This has to be the greatest grieving love song ever, and just for good measure one of the great guitar solos of all time as well. John you are always missed but never forgotten.
My beloved Bill Introduced me to John Martyn in 1985 and he has now passed 2021 and left me with so many songs of love and memories of wonderful artist xxxxx
@mrroboto5946 Thank you so much. That is a great compilation of tracks. I hope your rest days are sunny, your beer is cold and your partner is loving. Bless.
The first time i Saw John playing was about 86 when he released sapphire. I wasnt very familiar with his music at that time ,but from the first note i said what the f**** is this and i will never forget when he played Hurt in your heart screaming wild his eyes filling up, there was a wave of emotion that i will never forget . Dark, macabre even. Still the best gig i was ever at.
When the pain of living and of love contrives to make music this expressive it will resonate forever. An astonishing, heartbreaking performance by an uncompromising genius. RIP John.
My heart is breaking- reading his biography- been a lover of his music since the 70’s - and find he was such an abusive husband , father and businessman - so sad
john Martyn seen the man back in my younger days in brum cov with Danny Thomson on Bass. grate guitar own style and a voice i will never forget the man is a legend.
I agree with what dougfinn2 said earlier - Heaven is now a better place and we are left here feeling we've lost a friend. Rest in peace John - no more hurt in your heart.
Brilliant,I went to see John shortly before he passed away,much missed ,up to the end his last record was great Heaven and Earth it was called ,miss his music a lot,John. C.
Never seen this before, I am in tears. Just so intense and emotionally heavy. A day when you haven't listened to Johnny is a day wasted. The older I get, the more he resonates on my life. RIP Johnny too Bad x
Phil Collins admired john even done a duet with the man legend I've even got my nephew listening to him he was born 95 so people are still listening what I guy r I p j
Totally agree. It's the musicians who can truly describe the human condition and JM was one of the greatest. Pure genious. Pure emotion. All the beauty and tragedy of life. Simply brilliant.
He wore his pain in so many songs that he performed (how sad it is that the troubles of so many artists result in such poignant and powerfully delivered art!)
I play this for my lady whom I am trying to tell I am leaving her ... she is hurt & a damaged damsel but nothing I have done or can do is helping get past her hurt & anger ,,, sad day for me ... love you John ... peace
💔 I know the feeling well.😪 💗 will find us All sooner or later, somehow it All comes together in 💗 Find a shift into appreciation, moving on in 💗 and Grace. 👍 💔🌞🕊💞🥰🌱🌎🌌💫
Gosh phoenix have just seen your message and found it so sad i wonder did you break up or work through things i hope you both did and have moved forward in a better life xx
@@kathleenprice3388 Our relationship did not survive Kathleen. I struggled with dealing with the anger issues she had but, she would not admit to none of my concerns or suggestions for counselling .... I found that I was in love with a narcissist & narcissists will never claim any responsibility for shortcomings they may have. We do speak & she does want to rekindle Our relationship but until she receives help I cannot allow myself to be abused again ,,, thanks for your concern xo
That's possibly the most remarkable description of this video I've ever heard. It's so true. I've never seen such raw emotion come across from any musician and it reduces me to tears every time I see it. John Martyn truely was an incredible human being and I wish I could thank him for what he's given us.
This gets me every time I watch it or hear it (and I've been a fan since I bought 'Grace & Danger' in 1980. I can't think of any other guy who ever showed this much emotion in a song. I always have to follow-up with 'May you never' just to lighten the heart a little.
He wrote this when he split up with Beverly my flatmate Peanut Mann used to play with him Bert Janch and John Renbourne back when they played small collage do's Peanut was the best 12 string player of all of them
This fucking song just made me cry... Again... The emotional depth of this great man just can't be put into words, the music simply speaks for itself. I hope JM and Beverley find happiness again sometime.
When that hurt in your heart has gone; When that hurt in your heart has gone When that hurt in your heart has gone Give me a call Darling, that's all that you have to do Show me a sign; A word or a line One stitch in time To save this poor heart From breaking When that hurt in your heart has gone; When that hurt in your heart has gone When that hurt in your heart has gone I'll still be your friend Right to the end of forever And further still This hurting will mend And I hope you'll remember all the time; Hope you'll remember every line Hope you'll remember All the love, all the love, all the love When that hurt in your heart has gone; When that hurt in your heart has gone When that hurt in your heart has gone Just say my name You don't have to say it loud; I'll still feel the same And I'll still be true Waiting for you To come sailing through 'Cause you know you can When that hurt in your heart has gone; When that hurt in your heart has gone When that hurt in your heart has gone Give me a call...

@zappascotland I think that many people would rate JM as one of the best and influential guitarists of the last 40 years - even if he did sell bugger all albums :-)
Yes, it's on Grace & Danger but not this version. It's on the VHS tape 'John Martyn In Vision 1973-1981'. I bought it on Amazon specifically for this and another incredible live performance of Inside Out - only to find that, although the rest of the tape was fine, these last 2 tracks were of such appalling quality that I was gutted. So thank you Waggonerslad for posting such a wonderful performance on TH-cam. And to anyone else who might buy the VHS & get it converted, my advice is: don't.

it's like looking at a distressed child or a wounded animal. this song breaks my heart.

Debra im so sorry for your loss but try take heart and enjoy the music and songs he left you x
just when you think you've heard a man pour out every bit of raw emotion he can'he then does the same with a unbelievable guitar solo.
I've listened to this so many time over the years and wish there was a hi fidelity version of it.
There is on "The Island Years" compilation album depending on your streaming platform.
@mrroboto5946 Thank you so much. That is a great compilation of tracks. I hope your rest days are sunny, your beer is cold and your partner is loving. Bless.
Absolutely brilliant! Still listening to JM’s music in 2021. Glad I got to see him live in the early ‘80’s.
I'm listening in 2021, and doubt I'll ever stop. Rest easy Big John.

If you can’t reflect in this, you’ve never truly loved, lost love and still love all those who stole your deepest love…
No one stole it, he fucked it up all.by himself
What a loss! no one could quite put it across the way he did, the cry from his soul explains it all, His songs got me through some bad times.
I cried because I know.
Tortured genius. Peerless. Utterly unforgettable. Was supposed to see him just before he died but had to cancel. Biggest(musical) regret of my life.

Good old max middleton on the keys.
The other Thomson on bass so GOOD

This is a truly stunning version of one of the big man's most heartfelt songs. Raw emotion.
It's the bitter/sweet emotions of life and love put to words and music so beautifully as only John and a few others could.
oh my.....it just moves me so deeply every time

heaven was need a hero
When that hurt in your heart has gone;
When that hurt in your heart has gone
When that hurt in your heart has gone
Give me a call
Darling, that's all that you have to do
Show me a sign;
A word or a line
One stitch in time
To save this poor heart
From breaking
When that hurt in your heart has gone;
When that hurt in your heart has gone
When that hurt in your heart has gone
I'll still be your friend
Right to the end of forever
And further still
This hurting will mend
And I hope you'll remember all the time;
Hope you'll remember every line
Hope you'll remember
All the love, all the love, all the love
When that hurt in your heart has gone;
When that hurt in your heart has gone
When that hurt in your heart has gone
Just say my name
You don't have to say it loud;
I'll still feel the same
And I'll still be true
Waiting for you
To come sailing through
'Cause you know you can
When that hurt in your heart has gone;
When that hurt in your heart has gone
When that hurt in your heart has gone
Give me a call...
very nice--I relate to this song

Lovely comment, you're bang on.
sad loss
@zappascotland I think that many people would rate JM as one of the best and influential guitarists of the last 40 years - even if he did sell bugger all albums :-)
How to believe he's gone?
The end of ... something.
Heaven sounds much better now.
@CCBBW really nice words
What more can be said eh, the dogs skcollob nuff.
On which album can I find this version? What an amazing rendition! God bless you John!
