been listening to this genius for nearly 50 years - saw him many many times live. i once read somewhere that his concerts can be like religious experiences...so so true. totally and utterly mesmerizing.
He looked pissed yeah and he may well have been off his face but in spite of this he can coax the angels from heaven to send shivers up my spine got to love that man - he was a musical maverick in a world of his own and us ...,,.... just lookin on .... in awe
a dj on the late night radio show opined " if you consider yourself a serious fan of music and never listened to john ? think again ! " irreplaceable ( honoured to have been in the audience many times ) 🎶 🎸
I'm in love with this. Wish I had seen him live. I was introduced to 'Solid Air' in '94; I then bought 'Sunday's Child' around the same time. I once heard he was playing 'Lochgelly Centre' but he just wasn't my boyfriends cup of tea and I didn't want to go on my own. Years down the line , out of all the music I've listened to he was the only one that stuck to me emotionally (and the Cocteau Twins and other bits here and there) that I started watching him on You Tube and he is my deep favourite ....will order 'the man upstairs' on DVD soon so I can watch in awe and get a bit drunk and have a night in. That boyfriend, (he's now my husband) just leaves me to it when I put him on TV, although on a night out he's come in drunk and serenaded me with 'Gun Money' which was well entertaining.
😉 nice piece Helen, the man was outstanding, met him during different stages of his career (1970-2005), mindboggling!!! cheers (how's the boyfriend? ;-) )
I sang harmonies with John on his album Well Kept Secret, which is the album Gun Money is on. To sing harmony with a brilliant singer who improvised all the time was challenging but amazing. Best Wishes, Lee.
He was in his own musical world, nobody could conjure up that feeling that John portrays through music. Always been part of my musical life and luckily saw him at the jazz cafe in the late 90s. God bless you John .We are all just looking on 😊
loved john's music always. he was my very first concert, in dublin 1981. this is very fuckn special ! a masterpiece ( also like the black suit and slippers too )
THIS is the great period of his life. He went from sublime to simply genius the closer to the end he got. Magical. Alan Thomson (of course) and Spencer. They cook it up. Fantastic.
Ok, John Martyn has always his incredible voice. But a great period! Car accident with injuries, one cyst on his knee. After, he had been amputated of his leg. He made, with courage and always smiling , his come back. But, l didn't find his voice.
Simply love what he can do whatever the vibe, it always works. My fondest memory is the night I photographed John After he playing solo in a Stoke pub back in 1996. Just him, his guitar, amp and a pedal. Just great.
Oh John you nailed it again.......fabulous performance as always....Jazz JM style....God bless you big man. Saw you at Reading university way back when...been a fan for ever. Big shout out for bass player.
Check out Liverpool singer Mick ROACH on Spotify his track Meantime and good in blues he says it's a Martyn tribute...amazing vocal just like John ....
BIGGER THAN LIFE CHARACTER !!! :) Just bought his leather coat and waistcoat on Omega Auctions few weeks ago...Not cheap !!! Also his 6L (!!!) Buddha T-Shirt.... :) Probably one of the last ones he was wearing...
Loved recording/mixing the audio. Thanks for posting Eleanor/Lyn. Also 'John Wayne' amazing that night in Vicar Street. Great people to work with. Really miss John.
Late to the John Martyn party, but so glad I came.
A giant in every sense of the word; he could squeeze every last drop out of a song. Bless you John.

True. Also seen the big man many times.
RIP Johnny
30 years for me❤
Man man wat een gigantische sound weet die man neer te zetten groot
Alan Thomson on fretless bass 😮
May John rest in paradise !!!

he is not drunk, he is talented

irreplaceable ( honoured to have been in the audience many times ) 🎶 🎸
he is talented beyond words. he is also absolutely plastered drunk
I would say both. Been listening to John for almost 40yrs. Love his character, and above his music.
Sadly...he was a drunk. His problem was serious...and it contributed to his death.A genius nonetheless.
I often think how underestimated were the superb musicians John surrounded himself with. His 80's lineup were superb.

@@brucebherman Hi Bruce. Lucky you! The boyfriend's my husband now; he's got sketchy taste in music but excellent taste in women. :D

Can only ever understand him when he sings ... stunning performance
Damn. Johnny Boy is wasted, and still sounds brilliant! 💙

Lyn and Eleanor...whoa there...!another DVD ..serious? This is indeed a wondrous take..
The best version of Lookin on that's true
Indeed. And the reason for this is: the more jazz the better
Legend, that is, John Martyn💎
John Martyn after a few too many is a million times better than most, he was unbelivably brilliant
Glad you like it Ian, to me, this was the best version of Lookin On he ever did.
definitely the best version, yes
Totally agree with that ...this is fabulous.
Spoiled only by the rockist riff that John thought worked here but in my opinion it was out of place...
And he said he wasn't feeling well. Amazing performance.
Just superb
Gorgeous
If the universe had a voice this would be it. Proper musicians here.
Very big miss He's legend ❤
Absolutely brilliant.
it says everything about John Martyn that he mastered two kinds of music, this jazzy style and his Solid Air Period too.
40 years in November since I saw him in Southampton - and still I come back to John; just love him!
I love John’s music especially when he started that beautiful echoplex style guitar playing
Simply love what he can do whatever the vibe, it always works. My fondest memory is the night I photographed John After he playing solo in a Stoke pub back in 1996. Just him, his guitar, amp and a pedal. Just great.
You are so good man! So deep and wide!! And gathered good guys around!!! God bless your soul!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's been too long John, God I miss just knowing you are around.
Oh John you nailed it again.......fabulous performance as always....Jazz JM style....God bless you big man.

Lovely chords ....
this is painful to watch....but I can't stop.

Still miss the man..saw him at the shepherds bush gig close to the end...a sublime talent, uncompromising
Brilliant !
Alan Thomson.... One seriously underrated player.
They are all underrated that's why we love them.
BRILLIANT BASSIST ALAN
So true
If I just listen without looking at his band mates, I could swear I was hearing Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette and Jaco Pastorious. Fab fusion.
I was just thinking the same my friend….it’s called Jazz JM style…the bass player nails it ( John Giblin)
They don`t come any better. Always a pleasure never a chore.
Brilliant. Just brilliant. Thanks for this upload muchly. - ian
He could shit out a song on the toilet better than 99% of others, what a great perfomance
Not the best way to put it.
😅😍🤣
i appreciate the notion of shitting it out specifically 'on the toilet' and not just any old place
Gap in my heart
Brilliant.
Great,great performance!

Boys having some jamming fun I mean how better does a show get. The voice of Earth
Thanks Lyn. Love this live version, such a groove going on.
"Giant steps are what you take..."
I love how the artistic expression is intertwined with how drunk he is😂
amazing'...
Fine drummer.
John Martyn=Miles Davis..... Wonderful!
Is this from "Live at the Roundhouse 2007" seems hard to get your hands on! Does anybody know if this is possible to buy on CD or DVD!🤔
What year was this and where was it performed? It's out of this world.
John arguably at his best...
Wasted but never a wasted moment with John...
the best
My God how much "grace and danger"
Красавчик! Уважаю! Там встретимся..

For those who don’t know a ‘Thingy bob’ is an old Scottish term for a ‘whatever it’s called’ 😂❤
