I love listening to Elon speak. So much goes on in his pauses. I like how he continues to elaborate when the subject is nearly changed and he feels the need to continue still. I like how his voice fluctuates as he's choosing words, it shows he's thinking, not acting off a script. I sense no maliciousness in his voice.

I was told directly from the old growth forest to stand up for the trees. The best technology is to allow the trees to grow and remain alive for their life expectancy. They also told me to plant trees and make sure they are not over crowded 🌎

The funny thing with planting trees is they naturally die or can burn in massive forest fires. For trees to remove carbon from the cycle they need to be harvested and turned into things like mass timber structures that are designed to last a hundred years or more to actually remove the captured carbon from the cycle. Also replanting to replace the cut trees and not clear cutting.
Interesting point, never thought about that. So the trees are only removing net carbon while actively growing.

Beautiful challenge for everyone to try and accomplish, this is the type of incentive that gets people to innovate and come up with results. May this bring about true growth for our species.

I would imagine finding a way to get algae, mycelium, and/or mold to survive in an artificial environment made up to be similar to Mars' atmosphere would be the first goal. I don't have a lab capable for myself being poor and merely an electrician, so I wouldn't be aware where to start, or how much funding would be a decent start.
What could be more important than having clean Air to breathe, clean water to drink, proper food , clothes and shelter for all the. Including the animals. The love of friends and family. What gives us this? the forest. I stand up for the trees. Plant one each year for every member of your family 🌎❤️

Elon is a good motivator. He also looks at what we already have and finds ways to make it better . So one would think that with that in mind study photosynthesis and find ways to improve on that working model .
The crazy thing is that one trillion tons of CO2 means that you would need 1000 of these kiloton-scrubbing plants to run for 1000 years to remove. Meaning for a relevant timeline for climate change reversal it would need tens or hundreds of thousands of these plants

News outlets can't just post whatever they want. This is probably proprietary footage. I'm sure some news stations talked about it. But this isn't really a news segment. It's not weird at all when you think about it.
Is it possible to do carbon exchange by chemically induced in the asphalt and concrete of the highways to create the exchange of carbon?

I like that the prize is open to anyone. Gets amateur nerds with new ideas involved. Should have prizes for lowering cost to convert solar boats, boat-scale wave or tide energy extraction at anchor. A dozen little things add up. I have been impressed with the need for electrical power and refrigeration on live-aboard boats and on small islands. Most use inefficient small generators which could be replaced with renewables. Most of these places have a "cut" where tidal currents run fast and could generate power. Concrete is an expensive commodity there and concrete production uses a lot of carbon. The high cost makes opportunities for alternatives. These same islands have tons of plastic on their beaches and cleanup usually ends with burning it, so maybe use solar to sinter plastic and sand to build with instead of concrete. Its hard for little guys to move 100 tons or build at that scale, so it will only be corporations and universities who can compete for the carbon prize. You'd get more uniquely new ideas with a dozen smaller prizes.

They were both egomaniac workaholics like Elon, however Edison was far superior at marketing. GE (originally called Edison General Electric) was incorporated in New York on April 24, 1889 and remains 33rd largest firm in the United States by gross revenue.
Tesla, on the other hand, worked tirelessly but unsuccessfully on methods of sending electrical power through the air without wires, ignoring the obvious question how would you make people pay for it. He easily should have become the world’s first billionaire but died broke.
So in that sense I would say Elon is more like Edison.

About marketing skills tesla would have been a millionaire but he tored the agreement (in which it was written that he will get a dollar for every unit of electricity he generated by AC generator). Because his friend(with whom the agreement was done) would have been bankrupt.
Elon musk supports invention and also he always accepts criticism and improves it, while edison did not accepted the fact that DC current was insufficient.

I been following this man for like 10 yrs.. The man can so anything... That he puts his mind to.
My one and only wish is to one day get to meet him.. And he likes so close to me.
The way we renew the oil is to convert all the garbage and sewage into oil. We have the technology and have been doing it experimentally for many years. It requires heat and pressure. The energy for this process can be derived from the sun and geothermal. We will be inundated with sewage and garbage and those things are not going away. That process is sustainable. The oil produced could be used primarily for making things other than internal combustion.
Human need to discover how to make the natural health of the Earth work for us. We have sucked really bad at it so far, so inventing and innovating here is biblically valuable.
Even tho I am an engineering student. I'm pretty sure a bunch of tree would do the job :)
And yes it's a challenge here and there but just stop cutting more trees than planting would change a lot.

@Alex Sosa Annually, there is over a billion tons of C02 that is released into the atmosphere, strictly due to deforestation efforts. Also, at night, trees release C02 and water as by products of their metabolic processes. Plants release about 10x the amount of C02 annually compared to the burning of fossil fuels by humans.
To put the amount in perspective, he owns 200billion in capital and pays 0 tax on that. This is equal to a 0.5% tax rate where the average American pays 30%

My plebby 10 cents: Maybe freeze CO² to extract O² and leave the carbon behind as an actual solid compound? Also there's a "Caltech reactor" in the works that seeks out to do exactly what Elon is asking for in a much smaller scale, it's goal is space travel, to upgrade the recycling methods that are currently in place. Might be worth looking into that one first, to know what to do and what to not do. Also what's with Argon gas, i doubt that using huge quantities of Argon would help with anything, even if they ended up removing a huge amount of carbon?
you can easily google the energy and electricty costs of freezing co2 into dry ice. that's definitely not a good solution, not to mention what do you do with it. store it? where? it would eventually just melt even in a very very well insulated vacuum chamber over time. if there were giant industry applications for dry ice, maybe, but that's literally just recycling it not actually permanently removing it from the atmosphere then.

1. Separate CO₂from air
2. Turn it into plasma by hi temperature
3. Use magnetic field to separate carbon ions
4. Compress ions by pressure or magnetic field to form diamonds.
Diamonds may be used to produce powerful lenses or semiconductors.
Model it up, in worst case you will get more ideas.

Has he figured out a way to stop the ice from freezing over the windmills or how to stop snow from building up on the solar panels rendering both useless in the Northern States? I was thinking about solar panels but the snow will make it useless in the winter months.
I hope he can make an underwater rail system, it could safe massive piles of CO2 when those massive ships work on Solar energy, in the Suez canal in Egypt for example.

Trees are the biggest carbon elimination processor around. Crafting a genetic modified species that grows fast, that can be harvested, unobtrusive or dynamic with urban usage, and if possible, a change to growth cycles. If it could go from flowering to full leaves in a rapid rate and then spill its leaves in mid-summer and have a slow dormant stage from then.
To have trees just eating air carbon during peak electricity usage and traveling would be a decent impact.
Personally, the biggest threat to humanity is altruistic deterrence through individualism.
Make mini co2 scrubbers for each individual house hold. You will sell millions of them
Make it mandatory for every household
Issues with mini stuff is it's manufacturing would cost more with the large quantities and small form factor then it'll absorb. And people won't really buy it just cuz

We should reuse hydroelectric plants to power stations like these, while moving the grid towards Nuclear energy. Also, to those in the comments section berating carbon capture technology, I would point out that no amount of trees is going to capture all the carbon we burned from deposits in which it was stored safely for millennia. One plant over a short period of time won’t fix the problem, but it’s a start.
First off, the Delta IV rocket is/was burning O2 and H2 as propellant that makes water. That technology is already here for earth rockets (I'm not knocking SpaceX awesome reusable boosters that are awesome). I live in the Mojave desert and we have been in and out of drought for several years. I am a science teacher and for years had to navigate increasing flooded streets when it rained to get to work. I asked myself why this was happening. More development; Houses, streets, stores, etc. I lived at the end of a dirt road and noticed as more houses were being built, the developer would scrap off the native vegetation (yes, the desert does have some native things growing). Then they would grade the property so rain falling on the roof, driveways. and property would run off to the streets where it impacted things below...flooded streets and property.
Then homeowners would plant vegetation suitable for non-desert environments that required lots of daily/weekly watering. To save money and water and help lessen the people living below, I channeled the water that had become running down my street into shallow basins on my property...I have 2.5 acres so I was always able to contain the rainwater now coming down my steel that watered many trees on my property substantially cutting down my landscaping needs. In 20 years some of the trees I planted as little more than twigs were 18" in diameter and that was in a dry desert experiencing droughts.
I moved to another home in the desert that had the same 'dump the water off the property as my previous home. First two years I was there I planted 44 trees of various types and after three years of watering decided it was time for them to live on their own. On some of them, I made crescent-shaped bowls in the ground around them to catch downslope runoff and made some shallow basins to catch rain coming from the roof and property. I noticed that the erosional rills going out to the street were disappearing from being cutoff from the rain that would previously run off the property that added to the street flooding below.
I now have trees shading some of the house in the summer that lessens my AC costs, removes carbon from the atmosphere (thanks people for providing them with that) and makes a place for the wildlife in an otherwise sterile area where dirt and concrete are taking over lately. Something I noticed about a neighbors house, they didn't want 'unsightly solar panels' installed on their south facing street side roof so they had them installed on the side west roof. They cut down their beautiful shade trees that were shading the house from the hot sun and now I see trees growing there and again shading the west walls and solar panels reducing their sun exposure to just a few hours.
When I read about massive flooding when it rains around the country and blaming it on Climate Change I can only wonder how much of it is the result of increasing residential development dumping water down the streets and into streams and rivers. I told a county flood control official what I had done on my property and he said if more/all people did what I was doing it would save a lot of headaches for them when it rains.
Some of you might hate what I'm about to say now. Remember when they reduced the speed limit to 55 during the gas shortage? Isn't Climate Change and CO2 a reason to go back to 55 if this is as serious a problem as they say it is? On a trip that I do each month, I reduced my usual 65-70 mph down to 55-60 and noticed a 12% reduction in gas consumption. That is something that can be done immediately. Back in the 60s, my high school science teacher told us we were burning up our future. We asked what he was talking about and he said the petroleum that we use to make products (synthetics, pharma, fertilizers, etc) was being burned up in transportation at increasing rates. That was back in the 60s and he is still alive and working on a process to rejuvenate energy production of old solar panels. I hope he succeeds.

I've been thinking of these issues for almost 1/2 a century now. I grew up in Costa Rica, lived in Canada, USA and Taiwan. This is not an easy task, however with 1/2 a century of thought, I do have an answer that is not only sustainable, it will reduce the C02 in our atmosphere and replenish it with oxygen. It does not involve trees, but can support agriculture and much much more! So, where do I submit my model?
Those trees do soak in carbon as part of the process to convert CO2 to O2, but, the carbon will be released when the tree decomposes or is burned, right?
There are a few errors in your comment, so let's a address them in order:
1) Trees don't soak in carbon. They absorb CO2. Carbon and CO2 are not the same thing.
2) What do you mean by "released"? Carbon only becomes CO2 when burned and mixed with oxygen. If a tree decomposes, the carbon is still just carbon.
Carbon exists in everything. CO2 is the primary carbon source for life on Earth. We should probably calm down a little bit when treating CO2 as the enemy, just so we don't risk going overboard with our carbon annihilation.

Critical Role Highlights When a plant decomposed the carbon in their cells is turned into CO2. The only way to lock up the carbon in the plants is to prevent them from decomposing.

Choices will HAVE to be made if the carbon supply in the atmosphere is reduced to feed the world because crop yields and food production WILL lesson if the CO2 isn't there to feed these plants we depend on to have a food supply. The animals we grow to eat also have to be fed.
One solution is to harvest the CO2, liquefy it and develop a ground treatment to resupply this nutrition to fields and greenhouses to keep food yield high. Carbon or regenerative farming will also be necessary reducing the chemical farming done today.
Removing all the CO2 will cause famine without supplying it some other way?.

Most countries need to implement projects such as solar energy projects & wind energy projects there are few lucky nations that are able to implement thermal energy.
Aswell as green fuel or use tidal wave energy to move ships across the oceans
Tidal wave energy is another huge potential if the engineers could bring viable solutions such as boats, especially large cargo ships that require no fuel & can move around the oceans that would be very beneficial & at the same time reduce pollution

The solution is to make all home owners across the world not cut lawn ,once a year the town cuts it ,makes it into small fertilizer pelits,and sells to farmers to use to grow crops that feed us. I have a idea, you need to give the fishing industry a new job to do we would solve 2 problems, we would stop the fish becoming extinct and these fishermen will go to great lengths for money so offer them money for removing carbon and make electric boats for them to use
