Oatmeal is terrible for blood sugar. It causes a big spike in blood sugar and results in you feeling hungry a few hours later. Does adding protein powder help to reduce the blood sugar spike from oatmeal?
Honestly, if you are going to have it, before or after a workout is the best time! But most people can benefit more from eating it less often and definitely adding protein/fat if they do have it.
I ordinarily add 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, several walnuts, 1 tablespoon of EVOO, 1 tablespoon raw honey, pinch of sea salt, packet of Truvia. Would the chia seeds be a good source of natural protein? Should I add more or less?
I like your suggestion of Chia seeds and EVOO... Before reading it, I was just thinking that I would just eat a hard boiled egg with some cheese first 😅
That's still a spike. Don't eat oatmeal at all. You don't even need breakfast. Your liver gives you a boost of glucose just before you wake up - that's to give you energy to go hunt for your next meal. Forget the carbs, load on the protein and fat and you won't need to eat all day long. Two nutrient-dense meals with the least amount of carbs possible (it can also be zero carbs), will fill you up so you won't need breakfast or snacks in between. Forget the myth that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That was started by Kellogg's and everyone just repeats it mindlessly.
Omg why does t it effect me 🤔 im full of energy and i don’t feel hungry at all i eat it a lunch and don’t eat till dinner ..and i have lost weight 🤔i only use 30 grams of oats not half a cup 👍
Berries are neither protein or fat. Butter or whole cream would be better if you are consuming grains. Sugars and carbs cause hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance. Choose wisely.
I've seen many people who get large spikes eating the long cooking oatmeal. I've cut back because every so often I crave a bowl. I use half oatmeal, half hemp hearts. I add butter and olive oil, monk fruit sugar, walnuts. I'm sure there's still a rise. I treat it as a dessert.

Thank you Kait for sharing this with us.
Thanks for the side-by-side comparison 🙌
I have the brillant idea to eat oatmeal after my workout a couple years ago....😂😅
I was so naive and I understand now the up and down with the energy.

@HealthCoachKait yes with proteins i can see why it's important but i was just eating the oatmeal alone. So sugar rush for me.
Would it help to add nuts to oatmeal?
I was told a few years ago that oats are good carbs because they're "slow release carbs"
They are *better* than refined carbs but everything is on a spectrum. Always better and worse choices you can make!
Whoa. That was the steelcut 👀. Then you know the instant oatmeal numbers gonna double at least
Thank you

So now we are not supposed to eat oatmeal?
Thank you for sharing that, I didn't know😢
You’re welcome! There are ways to make them more blood sugar friendly (like adding protein) or even having them later in the day ❤️
What protein powder do you use?
What do you think of farro instead?

How about add Berries? & Milk?

This is so hard to watch people I know think that oatmeal is the healthiest breakfast and they struggle with their weight and energy.

I thought Oatmeal safe to eat?
Fat clogs the insulin receptors. This causes insulin resistance
No it doesn't. I have helped 100s of clients reverse insulin resistance by eating a high fat diet.
You’re full of crap.
How so?
