BS, they are paying for a service just like they pay for everything those Asians do. Anything that you add that isn't natural runs the risk of ruining what you have that's natural
I went to a shop and asked them a price for a style. I didn't like the prices, so I said "thank you" and walked out. Once out for the shop, the lady ran out screaming, "i give you better price, come." I said ok and went back. She walked me to a back room and said, "I give you this price, but I don't want any problems in my shop. Don't make any noise or make problems in my shop. " I said, 'Move out of my way, I'm leaving. This lady really blocked me and said, "No, I'll do your hair, i don't want any problems" atp im ready to get violent so i screamed "I WANT TO LEAVE, MOVE OUT OF MY WAY!" She moved, and I left. Those mofos are CRAZY and they'll make you bald. It's not worth it!
This is how to deal with them. I don’t understand how someone will have a whole head full of braids and start complaining after. What type of shit is that?

@@pinkrose4322Not just African women. I had an AA beautician who was just as bad. When I stopped going to her my hair came back to life. I think she was purposely trying to destroy my hair.
I went to an African shop for individual braids and the braider embarrassed me in front of other customers, About my hair type being to nappy and instead of individuals she can only do single-lees twist. I told her don’t worry about it. Then she tried to convince me to stay so she can do the individuals. I said No! Goodbye ✌️ and I cried on the way home but I braided my own hair and got my many compliments. I will never let Africans braid my hair again!
They definitely create 'problems' to jack up the price. They told my daughter the same, she has 3c/4a hair and not 'nappy' at all! Then they said it was too long and complained about that. Charged me £160, here in London. My daughters Caribbean family were not happy. I now pay £30 for a Jamaican woman to do it😅

I'm vvhite from Detroit. I can do braids that you can't even pull out, without pulling hair AT ALL, in one inch hair. Pulling isn't necessary at all. They're just like my grandmas and want to cause payn.
Because the Africans use to do a good job. Plus, they are literally the last option because black ppl do you dirty. It has gotten so bad that my daughter won't even waste her time going to a salon. I'm up doing my own hair because it's awful out here. I'm waiting for things to go back to normal. When our hair is done, we feel good.
Old school black women known since the 1980s do not go to African braiders. You will lose your edges and they do not part well .Your braids will fall out and they'll be way too tight.
I learned my lesson back in 2016. I had to cut off all of my hair. The braids were too tight, and big balls of hair were coming out when I had combed it. I cried for days
I walked in a braiding shop because I was inquiring about prices . The lady told the other one “ look she has her edges “ and that is when I walked rt out . I knew what was up .
As I say TH-cam university, fountain of all knowledge. Don't really know why I'm watching because my hair is ever so slightly wavy waist length blonde hair
The number of y’all who will stand in front of your cameras and talk to strangers but not the person doing your hair?!?!?! 😳 Forget anxiety and being peaceful, you are paying for a service. Open your dang mouth! 🤦🏾♀️
Hello there. I do hair. I braid, cornrow, do crochets, locs as well as sister locs. I treat everyone with love and respect. I take time to do hair because I’m going to make sure your parts etc. are on point. If you are in a rush, I don’t even want to do your hair. Now with getting my hair done in the past, because now I have locs, if the stylist is rude to me, they’re not getting my money and I’m leaving. Customer service and respect is HUGE in my book.
No shade but as a Black American I always thought our braiders part hair neater and better and Black American braid shops are cleaner.. The Africans braid too tight and they're rude.
YUP!!! And you tell em you want knotless and they'll give you zillions. Every style, don't matter, it's zillions. I stopped and found me and my daughter a Black American braider.
Wow, I have been a licensed cosmetologist for over 30 plus years. This is the worst braiding I ever seen in my life. Every hair style looked horrible. This salon was not professional at all. This why they didn't have their price together. Hit me up for more professional braiding... lol
Could you please tell me, because Im being ripped off. My friend pays 80 for what I paid 400 for. What should it cost to cornrow a head for sew in extensions??
I honestly feel so so bad for people of colour trying to get their hair done, it seems like a constant stress and losing battle with all these awful braiders/stylists. Y'all deserve SO much better 😩🖤
If they learned to love and wear their hair in it's natural state they would not have these issues. Trusts me these "African" braiders are all over the world (even in African countries )and the same thing happens (traction alopecia), but still the madness continues.
This is exactly why I got locs. Having to find someone to do my hair was a hassle. The black Americans want to argue with you about recording you, deposits, showing up late and being unprofessional. The African ones are also always late, think they can do whatever they want to your hair, and they don’t understand hair care. It’s almost like they’re doing you a favor by you setting up an appointment, showing up on time, paying them hundreds of dollars. But.. they’re doing you a favor though.
Right...😂😂 I'm 2 years microlocd and wish I would have done this over a decade ago. I've had bad experiences from American and African hairstyles ever since I moved to the DMV. I've been natural since 2007, and before my locs, my hair fell out, and 2-3" of my hairline was gone dealing with these northern stylists. I got my locs installed 9/7/2022 with no edges...but as of 2024, I was able to grow them back using a hair system and was able to get more loxs installed. Never again would I let anyone but my loctician touch my hair.
The girl, whose hair was cut without her consent, was ganged up on. She should have called the police for her safety instead of recording a video. I hope she sued them.
Yeah that was fcking crazy!! That close to her head, what if they hit her eye or stab her head because of their attitudes, the lady getting up in her face! 💯 should have called the popo at that point, touching her is a big HELL NO. But the whole situation and them ganging up on her with scissors, trapping her in the chair, the btch getting the phone up in her face multiple times like she's trying to start something- AND her coworker had to pull her away!! That'd be classified as assault, and be an open-shut lawsuit by any lawyer worth their money.
Hell they don't wash their asses, I remember having to tell one she smelled so bad musty and fishy at the same time. she wasn't the person who started my hair but she had to finish my hair 🤢🤢 I was so pissed off not to mention they always got they kids running around bad and hungry.
Nah for real, as much as I appreciate my braiders’ work and reasonable prices, the lack of cleanliness needs to be addressed. It’s not hard to sweep up and gather used towels in a bin. Wipe down surfaces with cleanser wipes and just tidy up.
They just took out the top of my hair. I got a bald spot. They were talking in a different language while they were laughing at me. They do not like us. Never again!!!!
I’ve had good and bad experiences off and on with both African hair braiders and American hairstylists.. I stick with the ones that take good care of me, regardless of their cultural background. Professionalism is individualistic.
I am African. Grew up in Africa. We get the same treatment from hairdressers 😭. Sometimes I wonder whether being non chalant is part of the job 😂. They laugh at us when we complain. You stay there the whole day. The braider leaves, answers calls and brings her kids. She stops midway because she’s tired and expects you to find a solution. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Well, and they wonder why many of these shops end up closings, whom wants to deal with that noise, better to do your own hair than to do business with snake, rats and weasels.
This is why I do my own hair I stop going to African shops they also put an rash in my head a few years ago and I even had to go to the hospital to get it treated cause i had infection. They will never get no more money from me I rather sit up here and learn how to do my own head then go to another shop
I am an East African married to the most amazing African American man Please ladies those African shops are running by west African women not us We don’t like their services either. They stunk we don’t
Girls stop sitting on your phones, watch when ppl are in your head pay attention, and don't wait till the end to say something it's your head, not theirs.
I got my hair braided at a African braid shop I was quoted $180 , I spent $60 on braiding hair only to get there and be told that they only used the brand of hair they sold 🥴, okay whatever I use their hair , I had to tell them multiple times to stop pulling the braids because I have a fine hair line , I had to tell them to stop parting my hair so hard because I have a sensitive scalp , I was told it was gonna be 6 hours I was in there for 9 plus hours , I left paying $280 for Fulani braids at the top with knotless singles in the back , I looked like a beautiful African princess but you can bet I never went back 😂
About 30 yrs ago I literally had to cut a friend of mine hair after her braids were taken out. Her hair was knotted basically torn out in various different lengths. Prior too that she had full head of healthy hair.
I can’t imagine…..extra tight braids to scalp, hair roots in distress, with weight of extra hair . A month later with new growth so is only option to remove & redo whole thing again ¿
Im Nigerian, one thing ill tell you about us (including African american businesses)is that we do not understand good customer service thats why majority of our businesses dont outlast us. Everything is done haphazardly, they laugh and talk over your head, if you insist on something, they start getting angry. I had one random kid with phlegm drink my water and run off with my chips. I didnt even know when i raised my voice. Suddenly everyone was looking at me like im the mean one for raising my voice. Theyre just a necessary "evil". If i had options, id explore them for sure
Ive had lots for almost 20 years but as a child I got my hair braided often. My mom didn't play with the Africans and always took me to black American braiders. She saw how girls were losing their edges and how the health of their hair was sabotaged and refused to take me. We are also big on spirituality and she said she didn't like the idea of folks being able to speak over my head and she not know what they were saying. My grandmother was a beautician waaaaaaay back in the day and hipped my mama to that.
Years ago my mom went to get kinky twists. She asked them not to do them too tight and to leave her edges out bc her hair is VERY soft. They assured they wouldn’t do them tight. My mom complained about them being tight when she got home and her edges came out with the twists attached.
That’s how my edges came out due to kinky twist, they didn’t care they cut my hair as well taking it down still trying to grow them back reason why I started my wig business for other women that suffer from hair loss
Wow i would have took her ass to court there is no reason you have a license & people ate balding & having pain only due what they did and their negligence not only for me but to assure they treat the next client right or dont offer the service at all
The trauma from African braiding shots is the reason I taught myself to braid my own hair. This foolywang has been going on since the 80’s. This has continued for so long because we keep coming back for the abuse.
The amount of people who are crying AFTER not speaking up is alarming....smh AND you still paid?? No ma'am! I have the worst social anxiety BUT you're not about to play in my head. This is why I don't trust anyone to do mine nor my daughter's hair. We all have locs that I maintain myself
I’m just now recovering from edge loss, hair loss and totally burnt ends (from them dipping my hair in boiling water) at an African shop in 2018. Never EVER again smh…
African here, even I don't go to any random braider, especially the ones who stand in town and ask to braid your hair. I go to professional salons with good ratings, they don't make it tight. Do your research and not just look at the price. 😢
I have been going to the same Braider for over 10 years. She has turned her basement into her hair sanctuary. I am forever grateful for her and her skills. Hair don’t even hurt after she done braiding ❤
Terrible , my braided has private suite and it’s one on one experience. And she is very quiet we watch Netflix and it’s nice experience, no one yelling and eating every 5 minutes 😂😂😂
This is why I do my own hair When I did let them do my hair it was wayyy go tight they cut my natural hair and my edges baby was gone Now I do my own hair or I go to my Auntie who is Licensed and have her do my hair if I don’t wanna braid it and now my hair is so healthy edges full like it never broke off
Last time I had my hair braided by Africans was the most painful experience of my life. This was 2014, and rocking natural hair was starting to become normalized, but it was nothing like the wave that came a few years later with all these influencers or whatever. So, when I went to the African shop, my hair was in a natural state and needed to be blown out. But idk if my step mom just told them to give me braids without a blow out or what, cause they just straight up started braiding my hair as it was, while only combing it out with a small comb while my hair was dry. Granted, I was just learning how to take care of my hair, and up until that point, I was used to shops washing, conditioning, and then blowing out my hair. This was a common service with no extra charge. So, no I didn’t prep my own hair and was shocked when they got right to it. At first, it was just one lady working on me, and she kept combing my hair dry. Then a Second Lady came, but they both stopped to eat their lunch (it was already the afternoon when I came and was getting later). I was expecting medium sized braid that stopped about 6 inches past my shoulders, which was the norm. These women, after torturing my scalp for hours and literally yanking a tear out my eye from the pain, gave me bulky ass braids with no leave out, so it looked like I was balding in the front, and made that ish so heavy on my head. Every time I had to take a shower, I was scared my neck might snap, cause they were so damn heavy! But on top of being bulky, the length wasn’t right either. The hair barely passed my shoulders. Styling my hair was basically impossible too, so I mostly wore it down and my head was sore for over a week. Worst experience of my life! And of course, it wouldn’t be the African stylist experience if they weren’t speaking a different language while obviously insulting you. I was all alone with them in that shop as a teenage girl 😐 so of course I didn’t feel comfortable speaking up for myself.
This broke my heart reading this, knowing that you were a young, impressionable, vulnerable young girl, at one of the most crucial times in your life:your teenage years. They SHOULD'VE treated you with "kid gloves", showing you compassion and aaking if you were OK. I'm sorry "young" you had to experience that. 💜
Im east african and pretty and this happens to me all the time with Ghanaians and nigerians. They do this with a passion especially if they're j3al0us. Sorrry for your experience x
Many years of watching hair braiding vids on TH-cam, to get style ideas. Due to inflation times, I finally took the leap and started to do my own braids. I do whatever the heck style I want and I get so many compliments on my hair, it's crazy!! It takes about two days to finish my hair but I'm saving my money, frustration and my hair!!
I’m based in South Africa and go to South African braiders. This is heartbreaking that other African braiders are doing this. Don’t get me wrong part of the reason I specifically go to SA braiders is understanding the language and being able to tell them exactly what I want. This is sad 😢
You have to understand that Africans, who were raised in Africa, have a different understanding of ‘customer service’. Its the same in London. They tell you to come at 8am you don’t get seen until 10am. We keep going back through 😂
As a business owner, respect for your clients means respect for their culture and customs. Imagine me moving to their country, targeting them as my demographic, and not even bothering to learn how best to serve them?
I was at my appointment on time and she was not done for another hour and a half.made me sit while she finished and I was so cool about it then after she was finally done she had a very rude demeanor and told me I would have to come back tomorrow.i explained to her this was not a option.i got the braids and never ever went back that was in 2000,
One thing I hate, is when a hairdresser doesn't tell you how much it is to do your hair before you even get to the salon. It's not easy for me to get childcare, so I need to know how much I'm paying so I know when I can make the appointment according to my pay days lol but no! She tell me, come to the shop. I literally refuse to come if they don't tell me unless I trust you and you've done my hair before lol
Years back I was in an African hair braiding shop that I had been going to for years when something went down. A woman was having her hair braided and hers were finished before mine. She had refused to give a third of the payment before they finished but they went against their policy and fished her hair. I thought she looked gorgeous with those beautiful braids. She got up and then she said she wasn’t going to pay because she didn’t like the braids and headed towards the door. They grabbed her by the door while recording it and told her to pay or those braids will be cut off. After some struggle, she paid. My issue with that shop is that they sometimes put a baby on my lap without asking me, the unscheduled lunch breaks and the chatter in my ears nonstop.
So I'm gonna say the quiet part out loud. I have never looked at African braiders and thought they are great at hair care. They JUST BRAID. That's it and they snatch EVERY strand and that's NOT protective 😂😅 ijs
@@naebonnieThats how I get guaranteed growth, braids. I think it’s the people. I know most of them ask if you want your edges out now. A lot of people don’t let them touch their edges😂
@@fburnsDubstepEnderFox that’s a lot 😂 that’s more than half 🤷🏾♀️ sooo what’s your point…the original post said most 🥴 33 states actually sounds like the majority of the states do not require a license to braid hair 😂
When I lived in Africa my hair was braided with no issues. No tension knots, no allergic reactions, no bad products. As soon as I started getting my hair braided in NY, my hair was falling out, bald spots, tension knots, allergic reactions, and hair products built up on the root causing hair ripping.
Omg! I lasted probably 15 minutes into my braiding. First of all,I have very long hair. The girl didn’t like that so another girl did my hair. I can’t tell you what was wrong with this girls nails! My hair kept snagging in her nails! I asked if there was someone else and of course they were talking where I couldn’t understand them. I just couldn’t stand it anymore. I told them if she didn’t fix her nails or find someone else I was going to have to leave! I’ve had my braided before but it wasn’t as long as it is now. I will never, ever go through this again!
I went to the same shop in Harlem! I spent 300 on bob knotless braids, they werent even knotless just regular box braids. The braids were falling out my head, i couldn't even wear it down. That 24 hour shop in Harlem is terrible.
It happened in the in the black American shops too. They pull your hair out too, so don’t just blame it on them just blame it on African just blame it on people that don’t know how to do hair
You see that's the problem, just because someone is black like myself it doesn't mean I'm going to cover your bs, I'll say your name l don't care, I'm paying for a service, you should get it right regardless of your skin color
Report all of these salons. Never let them touch your hair again unless you want to loss your hair to their dark spells that is in their palms. I was ones befriended an African girl, I lost my hair after she touched my hair without my consent. My hair couldn’t grow back anymore.
I graduated from hair school in 2010 and I left the industry all together around 2012.. watching these videos gives me joy in knowing I made the right decision to not do hair anymore. First of all in the days of technology I feel it is extremely rude to have your phone out, recording the stylist and going on a public platform like tiktok to air out your grievances and tell others not to go to the salon because the style took longer than expected or because you didn't like the style. Back in the day, going to the salon on a Saturday was a woman's must do every two weeks. You already knew to have your schedule clean for the day and you already had plans to be there for hours on end. Never did we bash the stylist online or never did we get angry enough and claim to be ready to fight. Their was times I loved my hair and times I didn't. Regardless I never made the stylist feel bad because I was mature enough to know it was never intentional. Smh smh, gone are the good ole days all because of people who have to record their entire life for social media views and likes. Don't matter how horrible this makes a stylist feel, nah they don't care it hurts the business they feed their children with, pay lights and water bill. None of that matters in the world we live in today where man is a lover of himself!
😂💚😌😹child🎉 these chix... sucking their teeth & popping their lipgloss over trying to get a hairstyle they can't afford for a price they don't want to pay done by chix who dgad about any of that is wiLd. They need to return to bi-weekly basic styling instead of posting as professional victims 😹😌
Same with our nail friends did each other nail so why not go back to old school way with new school twist you buy every thing you need on line, let stop giving these ungrateful foreign our hard earn money you pay for your own disregard and disrespect Stop the Nonsense.
My momma told me to not let folks play in my hair. Especially foreigners. She said they may be praying to their god over your hair to destroy it. I did not believe her... Until now. If they will do these things in this vid, they can do anything worse.
Girl it’s horrible!! It is literally f$@&king me up I’m so pist rn I already have a migraine and I just want to watch the video in piece lol. Is this supposed to be the new thing that is fun and cool?
This happened to me, I met a girl working at Walmart, I admired her braids, she gave me the braiders ph. number I went in the shop, made arrangements to get my hair done, cool , I came to my appointment, why she act like she didn't remember me, I understand you see so many customers so anyway, I sat and waited for the other client to finish. I sat in the chair, this other lady helped, I'm very tender headed, so she braided and yanked my hair, it was so sore, due to my alopecia. Mind you this wasn't the style I asked for, she charged me $270.00. In one or two days, my braid fell out, one by one at home, at work! All my bald spots showing!
I'm Caucasian & I'm thinking about going to school to learn how to do braids & dreadlocks. I want to specialize in African hair. I've heard & seen way too many braiding horrors. That should never happen period. Yall should start sueing these people cuz they shouldn't even be in business.
😂😂😂😂😂I’m sorry , but yall did this to yall self !! You can feel the tight brains through out your hair. You can feel you edges being pulled. lol ain’t no way. Glad I learned how too.
I stopped going to African braiders 5 years ago, and my momma decided to stop going to African braiders this year. Plus, just because we have the same hair as them, doesn't mean we are the same.
It's the same in the UK. I do my own hair and my daughter's. I'd rather big chop than go to an African braider. They seem to have a deep hatred for their own hair.
I remember this African braided told me my hair was nappy after I blew dry my hair. I told her she would not comb my hair with a small tooth comb b/c I could hair my popping as she comb it
Many do not study hair care or maintenance, it’s a big issue. You have to go to the ones with decent shops, can articulate themselves, are licensed and have prices clearly displayed. All the others, not worth it!
Please be very careful who you allow to touch your crown.
Life is Spiritual!!
Amen 🙏
Correct 💫🙏🏼👏🏼
I wish more people believed this

The African braiding shops in my area is barely getting any business anymore for the most part rude and have this air of superiority, like why.
Um because Africans indeed do think they are superior to black Americans 🤷🏾♀️ you didn’t know that? They don’t identify with you
Same here and they don't know proper hair care.
Cause they don’t really like us they call Americans most of them don’t like Americans
‘Superiority’ 😂 and couldn’t stay in a rich continent of Africa and thrive but FLEE to the HOMELAND OF DOS??!!!!
Right, they don't like us so I'm not giving them my money!!

🥺 Too nappy. How rude. We all have different hair types and I will bet that yours was perfect for braids.
Good on you for walking away
Nappy?! No she didn't when their shit is like looking at a brillo pad! The nerve!
To all black women start suing these African braiding shops. Don’t let them pull your hair out or edges or rip you off.
Better yet, stop going to their shops. There are way too many black American women who be getting down with braiding hair by themselves
They don’t like blk women and looks at themselves As better. I had a man tel me thisn

Some people live for the drama
Yep lost my edges and had to have a hair transplant. DO NOT GO TO AFRICAN BRAIDING SHOPS
Chile please I don't deal with them at all! Hell I don't even SPEAK to them!!! 🙄
There be too many braids too. You're supposed to use a natural amount of braids.

You’re absolutely right

I take time to do hair because I’m going to make sure your parts etc. are on point. If you are in a rush, I don’t even want to do your hair. Now with getting my hair done in the past, because now I have locs, if the stylist is rude to me, they’re not getting my money and I’m leaving. Customer service and respect is HUGE in my book.

LOL this is why I got natural locs. Never have to do anything but put oil in my hair, wash, and go.
I got my locs installed 9/7/2022 with no edges...but as of 2024, I was able to grow them back using a hair system and was able to get more loxs installed. Never again would I let anyone but my loctician touch my hair.

I can’t imagine…..extra tight braids to scalp, hair roots in distress, with weight of extra hair . A month later with new growth so is only option to remove & redo whole thing again ¿
Box braids used to grow your hair especially the bigger ones idk about these smaller ones
Just gotta take breaks and treat your real hair in between. Back to back braids are not good.

Now I do my own hair or I go to my Auntie who is Licensed and have her do my hair if I don’t wanna braid it and now my hair is so healthy edges full like it never broke off
Last time I had my hair braided by Africans was the most painful experience of my life.

I'm Caucasian & I'm thinking about going to school to learn how to do braids & dreadlocks. I want to specialize in African hair. I've heard & seen way too many braiding horrors. That should never happen period. Yall should start sueing these people cuz they shouldn't even be in business.
I went a good 10 years not getting braids cuz of the bad experiences i had at braid shops. I just recently found one i like that treats me respectful.
😂😂😂😂😂I’m sorry , but yall did this to yall self !! You can feel the tight brains through out your hair. You can feel you edges being pulled. lol ain’t no way. Glad I learned how too.
Right!!
This is why nobody put they hands in my hair or my kids but me!!!!
I stopped going to African braiders 5 years ago, and my momma decided to stop going to African braiders this year. Plus, just because we have the same hair as them, doesn't mean we are the same.
MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY!! THEY THINK THE EXACT SAME WAY THE YT MAN DOES, LIKE THEY'RE BETTER THAN US. AIN'T THAT SOME SHIT⁉️‼️
I don't blame u I'm african too but I've seen how rude they are and bully too most Congolese
@@DlanaMkize Do you mean that Africans show hatred towards the Congolese people in the hairdressers?
@@DlanaMkize im east african and pretty. Always have these experiences with west africans specifically from Nigeria and ghana
@@ritabuggthomas2696 its nigerians and Ghanaians. They do this to us other africans too!!
Think they always betta
Whole video all I kept hearing was “Bob the builder CAN YOU FIX IT!!”😂😂
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Stop giving your money to people who disrespect you and talk badly about you in your face. They could care less about you .
But she seating there getting her hair done 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️😂😂😂
It's the same in the UK. I do my own hair and my daughter's. I'd rather big chop than go to an African braider. They seem to have a deep hatred for their own hair.
I'm from the UK too and felt this.
This is so true. My parents are African themselves and I can say this…. Sad
Also from the UK, I've also had my hair pulled tight during my childhood 😢 I always use to hate getting my hair done in cornrows.
I remember this African braided told me my hair was nappy after I blew dry my hair. I told her she would not comb my hair with a small tooth comb b/c I could hair my popping as she comb it
And they got the nappiest hair of all.
Many do not study hair care or maintenance, it’s a big issue. You have to go to the ones with decent shops, can articulate themselves, are licensed and have prices clearly displayed. All the others, not worth it!
What they baldheaded you use a small tooth comb on thick 4c hair
Since not going to African hair shops, my hair has been thriving, growing like crazy!
Africans braided my hair too tight. I begged them to loosen the grip. She told me "You cry like a baby"
What?! 😳
N they would have been the ones crying when I had them remove it and took my business elsewhere 💯
