While RVing in San Francisco, we have clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl at Fisherman's Wharf, tour the infamous prison Alcatraz, and watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean with our kids. On a date night, we paddle into McCovey Cove for a Giants game and take a trolley ride.

How much fun! I lived there for a year when I worked for an Airline. I was a tourist for a year before being able to move back my Seattle base! Never made it to Alcatraz because of my schedule but Winchester Mansion was the BEST! Theft deterrent...have a visible red blinking alarm light visible from all windows including the back window. I got mine at an auto store.

Just parking in San Francisco is an adventure. The last time I was in San Francisco I stayed in a hotel on fisherman’s wharf. I left my car in the hotel parking lot the whole time. I rode my bike across the Golden Gate each day and rode the cable car to the other places I wanted to go. The clam chowder in the sourdough bowl was great! I did eat at In & Out a couple of times. Love eating in China Town!

My girlfriend’s, we’ve been best friends since 4th grade Sunday school/church, (and we’re now 56ish), and I went to San Fran and loved it!! I totally get, Merisa, what you said about the Golden Gate Bridge; it’s just majestic! Thank you for sharing the awesome story about your daddy and bridges. I miss my daddy and love that reminder of him when I see good ‘ol tractors from the 70’s and 80’s and smell diesel fuel; bunch of farmers! Lol!! ❤️

This brought back so many memories for me as a 19 year old. I lived in San Francisco for a year and spent the COLDEST summer of my life there. We were on the bay, right on the water.

One thing about SF, it's EXHAUSTING! I grew up in the Bay Area and after the 70's SF got traffic and many more people... Glad I saw it when I was young enough to do the walking. I would love if you got to see everything you wanted. There is ALWAYS more. I always loved the zoo. Oh gosh, so much going on.

My home town ❤️ I learned to drive a stick on the streets of San Francisco. Boudin’s great for sourdough and clam chowder. Tell Hensley my mom was afraid of Laughing Sal when she was a little girl growing up with the Fun House in SF.

Great video! Nice adventure going out to see Alcatraz. Hope the kids enjoyed it and your sister. That sour dough with clam chowder looked good! That was nice you got to canoe with friends to listen to the Giants game on the radio. The trolley cars looked like fun. I had fun on this adventure with you. Thank you. Hope you had fun with you sister Marissa. Hope you have a great night and week! Safe travels.

When I was little we'd go to SF all the time (I had relatives who lived there)... all of those old time arcade machines came from Play Land at the Beach (no longer there)... and the Cliff House (currently not open).... they have ALWAYS been worth the time to see. You're walking streets we've walked 1000's of time. I used to take students on field trips to Alcatraz... it is really interesting. You got beautiful weather (no fog).... one of THE most expensive cities in the world.... and one that, sadly, many native Californians won't spend much time in anymore. The crime and homelessness is just oppressive. Glad you had a good time.

Oh boy! You just took me on a tour of my childhood. I miss CA so much. I'm glad you got to do all those things because it is starting to go downhill and getting dangerous in SF. The first time I saw the Golden Gate bridge- I was about 6- I got so upset because when I finally saw it it was ORANGE! I was so upset because I thought it was going to actually be GOLD. Thanks for the memories! BTW- if you go thru Santa Cruz for the Beach and Boardwalk- if you haven't already - try and go to Marianne's Ice-cream downtown. It's the best and an icon. It's a hole in the wall but right now they will have watermelon- you might like to try it- and a few other flavors! MO

Great coverage of SF. There are so many choices of things to do in SF. that it is difficult to make up your mind and I think you made great choices of where and what to do. I was there in may of 2010 and it was a different environment as the country was still hurting from 2008 real estate crash so tourism was at a low and a perfect time to visit. Prices were low and lots of places to stay. I flew in, took the BART to Market St. and walked to my hotel near Union Sq. Walked, public transited and taxied everywhere for 5 days. If there is one tip I would give is that having a car in the city is not recommended. parking can be tough to find and expensive during the day. Overnight parking in 2010 was $30 today its probably triple that today . I did the drove coast hwy for the other 5 days using a rental car. Definitely one of my fave vacations.

The Boudin sourdough clam chowder bowl is one of our favorites in Disney California. Ghirardelli is a favorite free snack our kids like to get at the park as well. When heading farther south, there is a low cost city campsite in Simi Valley that right by the location they filmed Little House on the Prairie if you have not already passed through the LA area. Great price, easy to get into and not far from much of LAs fun to go places (30-45 minutes on avg), plus it feels almost as rural as the tv show did.

    • @jcferg3370
      @jcferg3370 ปีที่แล้ว

If you go there you should check out the Old Susana cafe, as it was a favorite of the cast of Little House and many other shows. There are also multiple filming studios in the area. It is not uncommon to see them filming a movie throughout the city, because most don’t even know it exists.

I am behind but I hope you make it is Muir Woods, also Big Basin Redwoods State park is on park with the national parks and really fun to visit. Half Moon Bay was always a favorite hang out while we lived in the South Peninsula and they have the best Cioppino Seafood Stew.

That is an awesome bridge and that it survived many earthquakes over the years, including the one back in the 1989. My folks few in and out of San Francisco the day before that earthquake hit. We lived in Hamilton AF Base north of San Francisco, when I was a little older than Hensley. We have been on that bridge many times, flew over and I was on a boat ride under it.
San Francisco is really awesome. I hope you get some Sour Dough bread to take with you. My dad got some sour dough bread every time he flew to San Francisco when he flew for United Air Lines. I would want to take a side trip to Apple Park and see their big round building.

When you all drove up that iconic street that is so step did it bring out the Steve McQueen in both of you all. The October 1968 Movie Bullitt was filmed in and around some iconic streets of San Francisco. I know you all are a bit younger then I but you all should rent the movie after you have driven through those streets.

Note: If you are going out of SanFrancisco, into the East Bay and North Bay counties there is no expensive Bridge Toll locally. However, going back into SF via Bay Bridge or San Rafael Richmond will cost $$. If you head towards Sacramento or Reno Nevada you will pay bridge tolls at the Carquinez bridge going north on Hwy 80 too! Safe travels! Reno Nevada is a popular Bay Area get away playground. Skiing in the Sierra Nevada during the winter, etc,. Enjoy the Bay and all its great vacation spots. The Sierra Nevada and Reno are only 4 hrs North of San Francisco. Reno has Circus Circus for kids! ;-)

The best part of San Francisco is Sam's Anchor Cafe, across the bay in Tiburon. You can take the ferry there.

Surprised you didn't visit Coit Tower, such great views of the city. Paddling out to the cove (in Kayak McKayak?) is so cool! I love the idea of signing the board on it's adventures!

Yup, "THE CITY" can be a fun experience if you have planned well, and you have a veteran who knows the ropes.
Next episode, do you go to Golden Gate Park Steinhart Aquarium?
    Bicycle through/around Golden Gate park?
    Chinatown?
    Cable Car Museum?
    Saint Mary's Cathedral?
    Holy Virgin Russian Orthodox Cathedral?
    Was Fort Point closed?
Oh man, when you were driving, all I heard was ... dada dada dada wawa wawa waa waa waaa....The Steets of San Francisco, a Quin Martin Production! HAHAHA!
Did you hear Tony Bennett while watching the sunset?
Glad you recieved the city chill "fog rolling in" evening experience on the cable car.
So happy the you met Laughing Sal! She is a legend!
The rotating bar/lounges are a thing of the past. And the Carnelian Room has closed. Bummer!
Be smart, stay safe, San Francisco has some sketchy parts!

Honestly kayaking under the pier looked scary to me. LOL I lived in SF awhile back and still work there. Once in awhile I like to do a touristy thing and explore the city. Groupon used to have a lot of offers for fun tours. Loved Musee Mechanique. Exploring inside the USS Pampanito submarine is pretty awesome too.

You are in my area of the San Francisco Bay Area specifically San Francisco. I live just south in Daly City. I hoped you enjoyed your time in the City.
Two other places great fir families with children are the Exploratorium on one the piers around fisherman’s wharf and the Ferry Building.
2nd Golden Gate Park, art museum, and the Academy of Science which has a planetarium.
    Take care and safe journeys.

"Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco Treat" is no more! I heard a commercial the other day and they have dropped the "San Francisco Treat" part. Why do things have to change? Glad somebody else remembers. the way it was.🙂
