i feel like people who aren't into drawing/art don't realise how expensive art supplies can get !! my parents were shocked at the price of arches blocks - it's basically like £2 for one sheet of A4 paper

I have too many art supplies (I mean didn't stop me for asking for more lol) but one of the big things I did this year is mostly ask for stuff I'm running low on like watercolor paper. Also online drawing/painting classes to boost my skills and force me to use up the stuff I have.

Also for learning watercolor pigments/properties I highly recommend the TH-cam Channels; Dr. Oto Kano and Denise's channel, In Liquid Watercolor. Both are super informational. And Dr. Oto Kano has a website where they list ever color/pigment across multiple watercolor brands for easy comparison

This video is amazing. I really wanted to get copic markers but am totally content with my Ohuhu markers. As a watercolour artist I totally understand the feeling of wanting to build your own pallete. I did earlier this past fall. I do recommend the Daniel Smith or Windsor and Newton watercolours. When I was in college I splurged on a set of Carandache Supracolor watercolour pencils and they were the best investment I made. I've only had to sharpen them once or twice, these are built to last. A goal I've always wanted to try are the Luminescence Carandache pencil crayons. I really hope you and everyone here has an amazing holiday season. Much love to all and be safe everyone. Time to go make more tea or hot chocolate with cinnamon.

As a gift for myself I got a 72 set of premier prisma color pencils for about 40 dollars. I know that isn't much in terms of art supplies, but for my 6 years of doing art, I've mostly used plain old grafite mechanical pencils from Walmart. At first I really regretted it, it's just so much money for colored pencils, but when they arrived I was so happy! I've been getting used to them, and they're so good at blending and they're so buttery.. I'm really glad I splurged, i feel like it will really help me explore using colors in traditional art. Basically, sometimes it works out when you don't think things through! (As long as it's money you can spare that is)

the Van Gogh paints are great! They are affordable, yet hold up well compared to the high end brands in my collection.
The water doesn't get milky when painting with them, squeezed out paint dries glossy (good sign), they don't seperate and reactivate perfectly.
The only issue I've had with them was that just some of their paints have a completely different color on the tube than is actually inside (I've found this to be true just with Davy's grey so far, their tube color was a pastell turquoise but the actual paint is a dark, desaturated brown, which is what Davy's grey generally looks like. Didn't know that and was excited for that turquoise color)
but overall, inexpensive, but not "cheap". 9/10, love them!

I truly believe in due time you will have all of the art supplies you dreamt of, and your dream studio. Just collect them little by little. Besides you never know what types of deals may come your way. I was approached by a colleague that was downsizing her craft room. She sold me all 366, the full set of her copic markers on a year long payment plan for $1200 plus the copic bag. I paid her $100 a month for 12 month, until I collected all of the markers and the bag. People often sell used copics on Facebook marketplace as well.

Honestly, the thing with copics is that especially the copics sketch markers are sooooo expensive. I just recently bought a big set of copic ciao markers though and they're much more affordable. Hey there, you can use a french (box) easel as a table easel as well. i’m currently looking into that solution as i do not have a dedicated home studio while i occasionally like to paint outside. What is currently wanted most on my wishlist is a box of sennelier half stick pastels (120 in a wooden box), some pastel pencils of Caran d’Ache and a studio sketching set also from Caran d’Ache but the holbein paints might be added now… 😅

I can't justify paying for the exuberant price tag on the Arches watercolor blocks, so instead I buy the large sheets for like $5-9 and cut them down instead. The blocks are nice, but I'm often working on several pieces at a time so I would defeat the purpose of having them 😂

  • @Evelynn501
    @Evelynn501 ปีที่แล้ว

This made me so happy because I love doing this little guilty pleasure on blicks or Amazon haha, I honestly think I’ve built an art collection that I’m satisfied, like the things I want are just extensions of things I’ll have, or either the things I want I feel are just far too expensive so I’ll resort to like copics, or colored pencils. I’m the same way tho!! My favorite mediums are colored pencils and markers, I have waaay too many colored pencils but I’m just getting them open stock at this point, same with polychromos, I would like to expand but I have the 24 set and a couple of strays in my pouch that were open stock, but I feel like since they are expensive I can’t ask for another set since I’m not sure if they are repeats? But the three main things that I have been dreaming to get is the Holbein gouache and colored pencils, as well as the molotow paint markers, I have a couple molotows, their pastels are soo muted in a way that posca doesn’t get but they are like the copics of paint markers to me so a pretty penny 🥲 But what I asked for Christmas is the copic secondary tones set and the fine detail paint brush set on zenart supplies, it’s 12 brushes for 30 bucks and for their quality

I feel a bit guilty watching you go "oh that is SO expensive" and look around my office and see a bunch of stuff you're drooling over just scattered around 😅 Though I've been collecting for over 5 years and splurge when I have the spare cash. My first big purchase was the copics, at the time Ohuhu and Arteza and all the other cheaper brands weren't around so it was either buy Spectrum Noir/Winsor and Newton (with no option to refill) or Copics (with refills and nib replacements). Then it was coloured pencils (faber castell, holbein, caran d'ache, derwent lightfast) and some watercolours, and now I'm looking into gouache (I NEED those Holbein Irodori sets!)
I would say that unless you want the brand name, XP-Pen and Huion are like the Ohuhu of graphics tablets (compared to Wacom as Copic). I got a 24inch Huion, 2k resolution for about a third of the price of that Wacom Cintiq Pro 16. Smaller resolution, yes, but much more drawing space.

addition: cold press is the way to go. That's the "rough" one, hot press is smooth. Hot press could be great for gouache, but I've heard mixed reviews leaning negative towards the Arches hot press one.
if you can afford to buy a pad, don't waste the money by going for their hot press, the cold press is the iconic, unbeatable pad

my dream studio is my room.. if I just managed to clean it and KEEP it tidy :')
I'm from a well off middle class family I'd say, we can't spend that much but we have no money worries.
Since I've always been the cheaper kid warry about costing money my mom usually buys me the supplies I need/want because I don't cost a lot in other areas. I'm wearing my dads old clothes as I type this lol
I'm really lucky to have what I have, and I love sharing it. I've made multiple watercolor palettes for friends that they've been enjoying a lot!
but I seriously can't wait to make my own money so I can spend it on all the things I want (I won't have to pay rent and would only have to worry about gas and taxes)
I'm wondering if you have an amazon wishlist, like that one where people can buy things for other people..?

    Love this video!
I tend to tease myself and shop for art supplies that I feel I need (spoiler: I don't ) and the one I can never justify buying myself is the Karin decobrush markers. A full set of 84 is $300! Even a set of 12 is $50. The first two I got were from the ArtSnacks subscription box, and I bought one for my bday with another sketchbook (that I most definitely did not need but it was mint colored and I had to have it) and now I just hope and pray that they'll bless me with a good color range...eventually.
As for the marker holders, a recent expense that I justified www.amazon.com/dp/B074PC5PVX?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details but I wish they were bigger for that price. They are ok, but if you have someone you know who is handy with wood and can build you a custom one, I think that would be a better deal.
