  • On February 28th, 1984, Michael Jackson made history becoming the most awarded artist ever at the Grammys in a single night and cementing his enduring 'Pop King' status.
But Michael Jackson's relationship with the award ceremony wasn't always paved with glory, but was contentious to say the least as tensions grew over the decades to come.

I agree. Jazz, Classical, Raggae, Blues, Bluegrass, Jazz Fusion has certainly been on the rise. I prefer various genre of music as a opposed to a single artist who's music has only that bubblegum pop music the appeals to the younger, less mature and easily impressed members of society.

    • @live2diedie2liveagain78
      @live2diedie2liveagain78 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@king I put it like this: Prince, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins and Steve Winwood are artists that have wrote all the lyrics, wrote all the music, played all the instruments, arranged all the vocals, remixed all the music and produced entire albums by themselves. Jackson had never done that in his entire career. Jackson had not done a single by himself.
Jackson may have the biggest selling album of all time and Jackson may be the most awarded artist of all time. Not all of Jackson's awards were given for his music career. The album sales reflect more on popularity than musical ability. I've seen Jackson perform live and all he does is sing and dance. That's it, nothing more. Jackson may be a better dancer, on stage Prince sings, dances and plays various instruments.
Jackson had a bigger name due to his bubblegum pop music image and public relations team, not to mention his marketability so he'll have the bigger fan base
Ask any studio musicians, producers, lyricists, sound engineers who is the most respected and there is no contest. Moonwalkers say Jackson is the greatest dancer of all time. Tell that to Jeffrey Daniels, the man who taught Jackson the Backslide.
Watch Jackson dance and then go watch John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever". Jackson simply took dance routines from other dancers, mixed them up and that the secret of Jackson's dancing style.
My comments are not meant to insult or anger you so please don't be offended. People get so caught up in Jackson they give him credit for a lot of things he didn't do in the studio.

Impact isn't part of the equation as we all know that with the entertainment industry executives and the media backing Jackson he became the most famous entertainer of all time. When you have someone that has been in the recording industry since childhood, surround that person with a strong public relations team, a well established producer who brings with him song writers and the best studio musicians. What, are so stupid that you actually believe Jackson knew Rod Temperton before the "Off The Wall" album? It was Quincy Jones that worked with Temperton on other projects. The songs not written by Jackson were wrote by artists Quincy Jones knew. Don't be such a Shit for Brains thinking Jackson put the team together because he didn't. Historically, black artists have had a hard time breaking into the academy. The Grammys give black artists awards when it has no choice but leans towards white artists and industry favorites. I believe off the wall won 1 Grammy but it wasn’t even televised. The Grammys often didn’t televise black artists. I believe the industry decided that they had given Michael enough in 1984 and it was time for someone else. You can see how the record industry pivots every few years and will actively work to erase black artists to make way for new ones with different contracts.

Although, I still think from a music composition and production wise Prince SOTT was the better of the two. Prince's album was pushing the boundaries of pop music by bringing soul, r&B, funk, rock, pop, jazz, blues (sometimes in the same song). @@marsanda1397 As I said, Eagles have surpassed Jackson by having the biggest selling album in America while The Beatles and Elvis Presley have outsold Jackson globally. The entertainment industry as a whole is nothing more than a means to control the minds of the population by giving people what the people think they want instead of what people should know. Do you know:
      1. The Chinese own 192,000 acres of farmland in the US and the food produced from that will be used to feed the Chinese. Look at the homeless and starving in the US and it's only a matter of time before starving and homeless people attack these facilities to feed themselves.
      2. What does Putin and Hitler have in common? Both men seek/sought to rebuild their countries by reclaiming the land their nations lost. Hitler's actions led to WW II and Russia just getting started.
      3. China, historically, owns Taiwan and will soon move to take Taiwan. Taiwan is an ally of the US.
With all that's going on in the world, in the US, people show more concern with who sold more records or won more awards than America becoming a cashless society.

Invincible was the most expensive album ever released and Jackson tentatively had plans to leave Sony. Why should they do more than the bare minimum? Promotion costs money. The Grammy’s didn’t make a huge mistake…. they knew what they were doing by ignoring his masterpiece “BAD” album…. you have to remember that The Grammys Ceremony is ran by human beings with emotions, not Androids -- machines that are 100% objective and practical and not emotional at all! I’m certain that the people that refused to acknowledge MJ’s “BAD” album as yet another masterpiece alongside “Thriller” believed they were being fair and giving everyone a fair shot to get a Grammy…. they just took it too far…. if they gave him at least 3 Grammys, it would have looked like they were trying to share the awards with everyone…. but not giving him anything at all makes it seem like there’s some undercover hate going on behind the scenes even if that’s not the case….

Another amazing video on this channel to understand better Michael's way of thinking and how he dealt with this. Alter watching it's clear he had such an obsession with awards and being praised. Unfortunately Michael was dominated by his Ego somehow. And it's understandable, imagine winning a groundbreaking record of 8 grammies in a single night and having the title of most sold record album of all time.
Right after Thriller he was collecting awards and media was licking the floor he stood on. They made him felt like a King and he bought it blindly. One of the oldest media tricks: better than watch the rise is to watch the fall. And when someone was at the eye of a hurricane like Michael, selling anything that goes with his name... it was only a matter of time to begin his public scrutiny.
I think anyone at his position would be frail to his own ego in this situation. I can only imagine how many opportunists people and fake friends was around him at time time, feeding even more his ego. And when it became clear what can hurt you, people will use it against you. Maybe the industry realize how much he liked to be praised and awarded and tried to diminish him not giving him any award for Bad. In my opinion, Bad is a great follow up for Thriller and Michael was at his peak that time. Performance and vocal wise, he was unbeatable at Bad Era. Personally, I prefer the Bad album and I think it deserved more recognition than it had.
But it is understandable after all... I think he lost the timing after Thriller. 5 years without any new album was too much. Michael should have spent more time producing music, dance and performances than inflating his ego. He should have realized that his unique talent wasn't meant to be measured by awards. I think, unfortunately, he lost part of his magic when started being driven by ego and not passion on his craft. Still, the greatest of all time. I think we will never see anyone with such a story ever again.

I totally agree. Michael was great, amazingly talented but had some serious personal issues and a huge ego. Ironically this ego is what made him the biggest pop star of the 80's but at the same time it destroyed his artistic drive and credibility. I mean, the man built statues of himself for HIStory that made him look like a megalomaniac, ultimately hurting the sales of the album.

And we know very well where this constant obsession with recognition comes from: within the family. From what I've learned from Michael's own account, his father, Joe, seems not to have shown with praise and applause for what he did and because of that he began to pursue this recognition in another way than with work...
In fact, he should have gotten more recognition for his work, but he started to cross the line when it turned into a bit of an obsession...

Are you even remotely aware of how obsessed you are with this clown Michael Jackson?
A grown man walking around in airports holding hands with a 10 year old boy friend and that's normal, moral behavior for an entertainer to show the public?
Add the androgynous appearance and it's painfully obvious that something is very, deeply wrong with this man.
Insisting that all the members of his staff refer to him as "Little" Jimmy Safechuck, sharing hotel rooms with a "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on the door.
      If those aren't red flags...
