  • MY ACL SURGERY VLOG | acl and meniscus surgery/recovery | ACL RECONSTRUCTION
    Hi, welcome to my channel.
    July 2021 I took a blow to my knee during a take down in jiujitsu. After visiting the NHS and private health care at Spire, it was confirmed that I had fully snapped my ACL and gained a meniscus tear.
    I had to wait 3 months post injury for the operation due to a significant amount of swelling still around the knee. My surgeon wanted me to gain as much extension back in the leg before we operated.
    October 2021 I had my surgery which was full ACL reconstruction and a repaired meniscus tear.
    I am 34 years of age, a wife and a mother of a 5 year old boy. My career is a yoga teacher!
    During this video I share the highs and the lows whilst going through the first few days post surgery.
    I hope that this vlog helps anyone going through surgery and gives them a clear picture of recovery and pain.
    Please subscribe to the channel to come on an adventure with me during my rehab and progress as I try to get back to being a yoga teacher and managing as a mother.

    I’ve noticed everyone got to stay at the hospital for what seems like at least 24 hours. When I woke up I was on my way home within 30 minutes. My nerve block didn’t work very well either so that wore off by the end of the day.

    Hi Gemma I just found your videos and I’m going back to a year ago when you had your ACL surgery to watch your journey. I just had my ACL surgery on my left knee. I tore it completely by falling doing a lateral split in my kitchen. I am almost 6 weeks postop and it’s been quite an experience. I’m going to physical therapy twice a week plus I’m doing it at home twice a day. I used a walker for several weeks after it first happened because my surgery wasn’t done until a month after the fall. I got rid of the walker and now I’m using a cane. I’m hoping to get rid of that in two weeks. To anyone out there that is reading this that’s had this surgery hang in there think positive thoughts it’s very draining on your psyche but you can pull through. There was a time in the beginning I felt like I was never gonna walk again and I am walking! So keep the faith and charge on 🤩

    Where did your surgeon get your bone graft from? Patellar, quad or hamstring?

    I had a complete grade three tear ACL with a meniscus bucket (three tears on my meniscus) just had my surgery on Thursday. I have been having a lot of pain, esp when trying to get up, go to the bathroom, etc. It's just me during the week, so I have to get up and try to do things for myself

      Hey,
      Oh my gosh I remember how painful it was getting up in the night for the toilet during those first few weeks. It felt soooo painful. The pain subsides eventually. Hang in there! I know it's tough 😪 you've got this 👏 👍🏼

      @Gemma Linaker thanks Gemma because I am sitting up here getting all emotional and teary. I am grateful to God for what I can do; cuz seriously, getting to the bathroom was one of my big worries. The other things like eating and putting this CPM machine in place or get ice packs when no one is home to help at times just got me really moody. I appreciate your encouraging words

    Hi Im so glad I came across your journey ! I am about to have surgery in two weeks and trying to do my research on using autograph vs allograft . How did you choose to do your quadricep? I’m favoring using my own tissue just don’t know which one to go with. Thank you in advance :)

    • @GemmaLinaker
      @GemmaLinaker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I am so pleased you have found my video helpful. My surgeon used the hamstring graft. He said usually for professional sports players they would only use the petella tendon. My own tissue is working well so far. Good luck with your surgery!
