      Alcohol is sold in a wide array of colourful containers with interesting shapes and in many strengths, mixed with caffeine even, cheap and easy to obtain! Alcohol is a highly addictive drug with no health benefits, a class-1 carcinogen that damages every organ in the body and may be a factor in way more deaths than we may know, it causes cancer of the mouth, throat and pancreas (like snus) and also of the liver, kidneys, colon, skin and others. It also causes cirrhosis of the liver, liver failure, brain damage, high blood pressure, obesity, stroke, heat attack attack and more. It is involved in many accidents caused by risk taking it stupidity facilitated by the drug and increases violent behaviour. We are creating a moral panic about nicotine, but we overlook alcohol because it is part of our "culture" but I cannot think of a more horrible drug than alcohol (and I've tried a lot of drugs) there is nothing less cultured to me than a drunk person!

    • @5688gamble
      @5688gamble 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      All statements in this film can be applied to alcohol. Just like when other drugs are discussed. For comparisons with illegal drugs and the standards around nicotine products, alcohol is the low hanging fruit ripe for comparison, it is a dangerous, addictive, hard drug that it nation is too insisted with, c it is easily accessible by minors, most users started before 18, comes in more flavours than e-juice, brightly colours bottles of candy flavoured gin in heart shaped bottles and everything. If snus is such a huge issue, alcohol is a bigger one! Of all the drugs I've tried, alcohol causes the most harm, even as an ex-heroin addict, and heroin was more pleasant than alcohol, the drug that doesn't even really feel that great, especially for all the damage it directly causes to your health (more than heroin would were it legal for sure) I'm not demonstrating those who drink, why demonize users of other drugs though if you accept the stupid and reckless consumption of another hard drug is part of our culture (culture must be pretty shit if using the world most dangerous drug is what constitutes culture!)

I don't give a shit if people have bad habits that hurt themselves, but absolutely despise the selfish, sociopathic habit of smoking. So if anything smokeless cuts down on that crap I'm all for it no matter how harmful it is to the users.

    I have been thinking about trying snus as a way to manage stress. I don’t smoke or anything but sometimes I’m really stressed and I know it (nicotine) exists as an option. So I am tempted to smoke or something. But I’ve avoided it thus far.
    Now I’m thinking about these as a safe alternative.
    But the professor is saying there’s an association between stopping nicotine and improved mental health.
    So I don’t know if I want to find out.
    Most people would take up drinking alcohol in my position. But I don’t drink and my parents are both alcoholics. So I tend to assume something genetic will make me an alcoholic too if I drink “socially”

      Becoming an addict is not a smart choice as a hobby. The high is not worth the low. Just as with alcohol. Get into a sport or archeology, history, anything like that works much better as a stress relief.

      Yes, tobacco companies used to give out free cigarettes. That's how my mom, who just passed away at 90, started smoking at 13. I used to smoke, then i vaped. Took me ages to give up smoking and took me to some dark places trying to do so. However giving up vaping for me was even harder. Eventually i managed it, i still occasionally crave it but as times gone by ive learned that giving in to the cravings would be way worse than just dealing with them mentally.
    I used to smoke or vape to destress etc but once you quit ive realised that the vaping or smoking was the reason why things felt stressful.
    For those trying to give up, stick with it. The first few weeks are the worst. Getting back to the gym for me really helped me kick the habit.

    I'm not sure why this video conflates snus with nicotine pouches, as they are wholly different products; no more similar than cigarettes are to vapes. Snus is a reasonably organic product made of pasteurized tobacco and food-grade flavor/aroma additives, regulated by the Swedish National Food Agency as a food product. Nicotine pouches are a synthetic mystery all the way down. With that said, I agree that these nicotine pouch brands are definitely trying to market to teenagers, with their brightly-colored packaging and edgy, catchy names such as "Killa" and "Dope". It's unethical and needs to stop, but some corporations only see dollar signs...

    4:50 Yes, while a single cigarette might have 11mg to 12mg of nicotine, only 10-15% of that, or 1-2 mg nicotine gets absorbed. On the other hand, the starting doses of nicotine pouches are usually 3mg , 6mg and up … whereby a lot more gets absorbed. Even though the Channel 4 journalist was a smoker, she almost guaranteed herself an awful first experience by starting with the highest 4-dot strength.
    For a non-smoker, even a 3 mg 1-dot nicotine pouch the first time can be too much and wise to leave it in for less than a minute or two at most.

  • @5688gamble

    If you were going to use two pouches at once while still smoking and do it more times a day than reasonable, I am sorry, but I don't see how you wouldn't chew two pieces of gum (or lozenges, oral or nasal spray or use way too many patches) a day and continue smoking, nicotine is nicotine. Doesn't matter if it's snus or him, it is the same dog being absorbed in the same way. Flavour is only part of the equation, might help for smokers but him non smokers. But hey, I can buy the world finest and most addictive stuff, alcohol, in a wide array of flavours and strengths in almost an my store, even mixed with caffeine, and nobody goes mad about that! Do you know how big of a problem alcohol is in the his country? Why is it that we allow "responsible" adults to choose from as many flavours of alcohol as there are soft drinks, but snus is evil? You know what else causes oral cancer? Alcohol! Liver damage, high blood pressure, kidney damage, brain damage, vitamin deficiency, heat attack, stroke, pancreatitis, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, death by stupidity. Alcohol is easily worse than snus, and underage drinking was extremely common when I was at school, it was easy to obtain (so were other drugs for that matter) a girl in my biology class feel and caused extensive injuries to her face. We are a nation addicted to alcohol, yet it is advertised everywhere and widely glamorized in the media, pushed as essential to any social occasion or holiday as if being drink is in any way fun when you analyse the experience objectively, why not do away with all alcohol that tastes of anything other than alcohol? Make drinking less appealing? But no, alcohol gets a free pass, the real problem is me smoking a joint or buying some and custard flavoured e-huice or berry flavoured snus because kids can obtain it, apparently obtaining alcohol is an acceptable risk. Massive double standard!

      Nicotine notably increases your blood pressure and can cause hypertension and damage to your vasculature. In the time period between cigarettes/pouches, it's also been shown that users become far more irritable, emotionally volatile, depressed and anxious than if they weren't taking nicotine. You're also more likely to binge eat in the time period between nicotine doses. The reason you feel so good having nicotine is because you feel so terrible when you don't have it if you're dependent, which is very likely because it's a highly addictive substance. It's definitely not a "super drug" as it is not good for your nervous system, vascular system or mental health long-term.

    Quitting nicotine was the best decision I ever made with my life, as soon as you've done the same you will feel this way too.
    It can seem difficult at first, but it gets easier as the days go by and the longer you've not used nicotine the easier it becomes.
    The main driver is that you need to, want to quit, because as soon as you consider quitting, like, really sit down and think about it, then you'll have in your mind the goal / target to aim for and the reason for deciding to quit and you'll succeed.
    There is no better time than the present to kick off the process and start to think about quitting, you owe it to yourself to be the best version of yourself you can be.

    This is misleading. Selling Nic pouches to under 18s was made illegal in 2023.
    Sweden has the lowest smoking rate in the world and is classed as a non smoking country. It also has the lowest cancer and cardiovascular disease rates in the western world. There are no proven pier reviewed links to mouth, throat and pancreatic cancer, in fact quite the opposite.
    I have used, and still use them to quit vaping. I used vape to quit smoking.
    As with vapes, this is down to the lack of enforcement. The product are still unregulated, however the industry is pushing to self regulate to enable this. Pouches are by for the safest alternative to combustible tobacco. The problem lies within certain unscrupulous retail and distribution sectors who do not care what they sell.

      While that may be true and I don't doubt the veracity of your comment. Nicotine still increases stroke risk clots etc. And you're still an addict. So it hasn't obviously worked in any way to stop your addiction just the way you administer it. You wouldn't say a heroine addict that bangs up has helped them give up chasing the dragon. 😂 and while a country may not smoke that correlation of that one variable doesn't give a full picture. They also have lots of other variables going on. Whether you smoke vape or stick snus up your bum you're an addict ..you're stroke risk is greater.. and planet of other health and mental health consequences... so I don't think its misleading. And while manufacturers and retailers are complicit the legality that allows that industry which is underregulated and inspected is also complicit. As is ignorance of the public who think vaping is anything other than a different mode of entry.

    In Norway marketing snus and nicotine pouches is just as illegal as marketing cigarettes. The boxes are standardised as dark green ones, with a health warning and no cool fonts or logos. That may be the way to go for the US and the UK, but I hope the fear of something new doesn't lead to their prohibition. All white snus, but snus in general too, is safer than smoking, and in Sweden and Norway smoking amongst young people is almost unheard of.
    While their trendiness and the organic marketing through social media is a sad development, their existence isn't anywhere near the same kind of evil as smoking.

  • @moistressVT

    I tried nicotine pouches a couple times because I was like "hey they are cheaper than cigarettes, come in bigger nicotine amounts, and I'm not inhaling". Ended up getting nic sick(6mg pouches, I usually vape 6mg in an RDA), tossed the package both times after 1-2 pouches and back to vaping. I don't wanna demonize something if it legitimately helps someone get off cigarettes, but I am also concerned about the long term effects of taking such high doses via buccal absorption where you can easily just pop a new pouch every 30-45min vs having to go outside to smoke a cigarette or take a few puffs off a vape.
    However, I do stand by that cigarettes need to be fully banned at some point, and we need to also ban disposable vapes if only due to the massive e-waste. We also need to sort out the issue of minors and/or non-smokers getting into vaping and nicotine pouches. I don't care too much about consenting adults doing something harmful to their health, but when minors are involved it becomes a different issue.

    I haven’t put anything in my lungs since I started using Nicotine Pouches.
    I use at least 5 pouches a day with the strength being 9mg.
    Compare to the negatives, I reap the positive benefits that comes with nicotine as part of my day to day routine.
    In fact, why is this lovely journalist not talking about the possible health benefits that come with nicotine? Why is she not making the viewers aware it’s a neurotropic and maybe start from there?
    Anyone who uses anything stronger than 13mg is asking for it in my opinion but come on. 150mg strength should be banned.

A drug that is a class-1 carcinogen and leaves no organ undamaged, even light use impacts your quality of life massively, without you even knowing.

    Good product for people who enjoy being addicted, but don't want to spend all their cash on the ridiculously priced tobacco products. If you want to cut out addiction, you need to go cold turkey or do a proper nicotine replacement therapy. Also, the scale of harm in relation to tobacco smoking is so astronomical, it's actually worthy of cringe when you said people could buy real tobacco snus by mistake as a possible health concern.

    Look up the Harvard study that proved that nicotine is not addictive . It’s the additive in cigarettes and dip or tobacco pouches . The study was 2015 . The additive is called purazine. It’s a sugar that causes the addiction. Phillip morris bought Swedish match . Sure they are adding the additive for addiction. Harvard study proved that nicotine isn’t addictive or carcinogenic. It the additive big tobacco added to get smokers addicted in the 70’s

    • @catmay6677
      @catmay6677 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Snuff isn't the same as snus so you're wrong on 2 counts. Snus includes tobacco, these pouches are called white snus in Sweden because there's no tobacco and are sold as a subcategory of snus in Sweden too.

    • @blindhipshaker6409
      @blindhipshaker6409 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@catmay6677 snus is the swedish word for snuff. just means milled tobacco. The farmers in sweden hundreds of years ago took european snuff and steam cured it and added fruit flavours.. . They call it snus which is the swedish word for snuff. technically snus is moist snuff. so dont call me wrong i know my history. but nicotine pouches are not snus. white snus is also the wrong word to describe nic pouches because you can get real snus such as General White, which is made with tobacco.
