  • Yes, we know the Traxxas TRX-4 Sport ready to run RC rock crawling truck has been out for a while. But, John had picked one up for his son a short while back and he's been running it with great success. Because it's been holding up to a younder drivers abuse, John thought it would be a great idea to document his thoughts about this tough rig. During this video, John drives it through the Holmes Hobbies backyard course while talking about the rigs features and his impressions on the trucks performance. If you're researching and looking for the best RC crawler to get into, you'll want to watch this review!

    Couldnt agree more, I built the kit version of the Sport for my 5 year old son who'd started taking an interest in my Defender. The vehicle took a beating while he was learning and has stood up to all the early abuse. He's now becoming much more proficient and having such great fun. Perfect option for the little guys getting started.

      Yeah mine too. They throttle out and send it. I let 'em drive and bash the shredder. I'm a little nervous about handing over a controller for a crawler. Maybe when they are 10 lol.

    I love my red one. I put some scale piece on the back like a fire extinguisher, cable, chainsaw, shovel, black bungie net, a chain rapped around the front bumper, and gas cans on the rear bumper to give it a bit more realism. I think it's the second best out of the box crawler out there. The best being the Traxxas TRX6.

  • @1813boo
    @1813boo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just got a trx4 myself, and I can confirm it is an awesome rig for beginners. I've done comp crawlers for over a decade, but this was my first scale rig. I'm very impressed with the suspension geometry, and it's pretty bulletproof out of the box.
    That said, I completely agree with your stance on the stock electronics. Plenty good for playing around (and surprisingly durable), but a little more servo and a 5-pole motor really makes it crawl well.

    I built the unassembled kits for both the TRX4 Sport and the Element Enduro and there’s no better way to feel the quality difference. The TRX4 is so much more beefy. Plastics are better, transmission is more stout and things just seem to go together more soundly. My Element has the softer springs from stock, metal shock tower modifications, etc and yeah it does do vertical climbs better than my TRX4 Sport but my TRX4 does rock gardens better and overall it’s a better crawler. For my TRX4 I’m running a 27T Trailmaster Sport 550. I’ll keep the 8T or 10T Crawlmaster Sport 550 in mind. I love the torque and power of the Trailmaster 550. Will there be a torque loss with the Crawlmaster?

  • @KTMcaptain
    @KTMcaptain 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    your shv servo is way too strong for a stock trx4. The stock plastic parts will wear out quickly. I threw on a reefs 777 and it turned my plastic panhard mounts into noodles to the point that the 330oz blue trax-ass servo was getting more angle on rocks. Needed a metal axle, metal panhard mounts including the metal shocktower panhard. Then it snapped a metal shock tower panhard mound clean off so I went to the thickest one I could find (samix).
    .
    Just throw a $20 power hd 20kg servo in it. several videos show it has nearly the power of the trax-ass 330oz blue servo which is more than enough for the little sport. I run the 330oz in my capra and it has zero issues at 7.4 pounds with my nearly 200 gram per wheel ssd steel beadlocks and brass lock ring.

    • @jonthomas8487
      @jonthomas8487 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree to disagree..I’m running a 777 and if you are running a metal servo horn and set your DR to 95% it’s fine. There’s really no better plastics than the TRX4. I’m sure the Holmes V3 would be fine. End points are key

    • @KTMcaptain
      @KTMcaptain 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jon Thomas it’s a fact. After two rock crawling sessions the plastic parts completely lost their integrity to the point where it was on the street wheels pointed strait and when I turned to full lock it only went half way. I’ve been running the metal horn from day 1 and never broke it.
      .
      And yes, every bolt was tight. The panhard mount on the axle and frame flexed significantly.
