- On this episode we are bringing home the second rescued Chevy II, a 1963 Nova Hardtop Coupe. While digging for more Nova parts we found ALL the glass for BOTH cars!! We really need to decide what Nova we are going to start on first. Do we get the 63 Nova running as it sits? Or start building the 65 Nova? What do you think??

Love the 62, 63, 64 nova! Man that's a jackpot ! 👍😁
Thank you!! Yes!! Who doesn’t love a shoebox nova!!
Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate it!!
These cars look rough now but you can do it! I love the fact you are honoring your friend Rick.
I really appreciate that!! I hope he’s watching this!!!
A treasure trove of parts. Wow.
Ya!!! It’s kinda overwhelming!!
Thank you for watching and commenting!!!
Floor pans lookin reeeeeal good 😘
Thank you!!
Steve do a will it run video. I love you vids and the way you do things. And like I told you before I am a nova guy (66 67 ) please do a video
You got it!!! I’ll try and do it this weekend!! I’m dying to know it that 327 runs and runs well!! I’d kinda like to keep it!!
See if it runs... The glass is a BIG win. Restore as best you can - build it for Rick. Great save & video. Keep them coming.
Thank you thank you!!! I’m going to do my best. I want to see the cars back on the road at bare minimum. I may not be able to fully restore them but I think I can get them 80-90% complete, running, driving, stopping, and steering. Then move them on to someone who can enjoy them. Yes I was beyond happy to find all the glass!!! I’m going to attempt to fire the 327 off this weekend!! Hopefully that will be next Fridays video.
Thanks for watching!!!
lol there’s even more stuffs, that we have in common, don’t know y I comment, but here’s this vid same battery charger wife bought me back in the day and also 63 with a 256 straight six swapped everything over v8 406 after hi school. Had a kid So I traded for a 63 wagon took my motor and trans sat for over 20 years! 6 months been working on it yea great memories for sheeeerrrrrr❤❤😊
Hell yes!!! Get it back on the road!!!! Doesn’t matter how long it takes!!!!
That rear glass for the '65 turning up is a huge score.
No kidding!!!!!! I don’t think people realize!! That rear glass and trim is one year only!! I was supper happy when I saw it!! FYI. I paid her extra over the agreed amount when we found that glass!! 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
You guys are doing a great job.
Thank you!!
You need to maybe put them together they have an awesome story behind him and a personal touch also you got to see if you can get the one to fire up just to see if just join your channel and I really like it will be keep watching
Welcome!!! Thank you for watching and commenting!!! I’ll probably try and fire that 63 up tomorrow!! That will hopefully be next weeks video!! Stay tuned!!!
Awesome be looking for it
Awe man Ive got a couple more stories on how this car flirted with me along the way in life.....I'm the guy that got a Nova for $100.00 in the 80's...........
I just love shoebox novas I guess!! I can’t say no!
If you have the means to restore them, go for it. If they are all patina cars, then you have cars with stories and character. Whatever you can afford and have the room for. As long as they don't sit covered forever. A will it run video would work. A 327 would be a great start.
I agree. I really want to see if that 327 runs and runs good. I’ll probably keep it in there!!
So it's a 327 huh? Very nice. After getting it running, then freshen it up for longevity. @@tackettshoh
@@DonCrookwashere ya. I ran the casting number. I was curious after seeing the camel hump heads. Turns out it’s a 327…. I was like…😳
Oh man! It's totally worth the overhaul.@@tackettshoh
@@DonCrookwashere it’s so crazy. In high school I bought a 1965 SS no post. I put a 327 in it with 041 heads (basically the same heads) an Isky 272 mega cam. Headers. A single plane intake with a drop leg 725 cfm Holley carb.
So I’m totally on memory lane with this car!! 🤣🤣
It's worth doing right Do the whole car a little-by-little or if you can I'll do it at once but we do impulse put on on the street thinks about beautifully You don't see that type of car out on the road anymore it would be nice to see him out on the road again looking prestige
I don’t know how far I’ll get with it. But I’ll be sure to save both novas as far as I can.
Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
Good stuff man! It's been fun watching your videos, thanks for sharing. I'm partial to 1st gens too...get that 63 running street freak style🤘🦾
Thank you!!! I think I’m going to give that 327 a crack this weekend. See if it will fire. Might possibly be next weeks video!!
Thanks for watching and commenting!!!!
sweet, looking forward to it!@@tackettshoh
Will it run video, yes.😎👍
I think that will be next!! I ran the casting numbers. Turns out it’s a 327 with camel humps in that 63!!!! I couldn’t believe it!! Now I want to know if it runs!!!
@@tackettshoh
Get the 63 running first so if you send it to body shop jail they'll be able to move it on its own power.😎👍
@@itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 good point!
You know I dont think I've ever seen an nova without the door frame. (maybe I've forgot) I had a 65 nova. It had the door post. Your rear post comes down to a point. Mine didnt. It was real wide, wrapping around to the back.
Sounds like you had a 65 sedan. That’s exactly what the first nova is. This nova would be called a coupe. There is no center post. The back window wraps around the corner and the roof is 2” shorter. I like them both. I think they both look good. The coupe looks a little sleeker and sharper. Probably because it’s 2” shorter. But the cars are the same as far as mechanically. Suspension and steering and brakes.
Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
I think Rick would want you to fix them and enjoy them
I hope so. I appreciate that. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Gold mine in Novas and parts. Glass is cheap and easy to get for all Novas. Classic Industries has each or whole sets of glass tinted or non for good price. That 63 no post is worth some good money if you build it. Don't know if you know but on some years on the fist gen Novas the vin's do not verify SS. SS was only a optional package on a 63 you have to look at the trim tag on the outside firewall on passenger side the last line that says ACC look for a letter Z that is the most common code for super sport unless the Nova was build at the Oakland CA plant they use letter X. On the 64 it was not a option it was a body style that had 47 on the fourth and fifth of vin number and cal tag will have 47 on it as well. On 65-67 they changed the model to 17 or 18 on the second and third number on vin number the cal tag will also have 18 on it even if your vin was 17 for SS. 17 is the six cylinder and 18 V8 what ever the vin says was the engine that was in that SS. Now the third gen is a fucking mess. 68-71 the only way to verify is to have the original paper work and some can tell if looking at the front original brake setup. It was only a optimal package not a body style the window sticker and the build sheet was one of the only way to see if it has the SS package. The paperwork will have C26 code for SS package or SS only engine code L48 for small block or L34 L78 L89 for big block for SS Nova and that my friend is the Nova tech tip of the day.... I I am looking for two 65 fenders and light buckets.
Good information. Luckily I found all the glass for both nova. I’m pretty sure nobody makes a rear window and stainless trim for a 65 100 series. That’s a pretty difficult one to find. Being that it’s one year only and only on sedans. I don’t believe this is an SS. It has idiot lights on the gauge cluster. But I’ll double check. Thank you for watching and commenting. I do appreciate it.
Hi I love the channel you remind me of my younger self. If it were me, I would make the nova with the dented roof a daily driver. Back in the day I had two novas. 69 with a small block which I ran in superstore. 4 speed, could never get the car to be competitive. The other nova was a big block 70, 402cu. Ran that in stock eliminator. I was more competitive with that car. Does your wife do any wreching on your cars
Hi Richard!! Welcome to the channel!! Yes she does help me in the garage. She has a 69 nova with a 5.3 LS swap in it. I’m getting to the point with my green Chevelle. It’s all original steel and glass. It’s fun and runs mid 10’s. But that’s just not competitive these days.
I go to events. I sometimes go a few rounds but. It’s just to big and heavy I think.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yes do a will it run video. Getting a engine running that's been sitting forever is the best thing to see. I also think dropping the 406 in the 65 is a good move.
I like the way you think!! I think I’ll see if this 327 is good this weekend. I’ll film it and maybe post that next Fridays video! Then maybe we get the 406 back together for that 65?? 🤷♂️ that might be fun. Either way. I’ve got plenty to keep me busy!!
Thanks for watching and commenting!! I really appreciate it!!
Steve Tackett, you probably have no idea who I am. But if you are the same Steve Tackett from Santana high school, then I know who you are. Regardless, good for you for making a a you tube page!!!
😳 yes. I am Steve Tackett from Santana high school. Class of 96. I had a blue 65 SS nova back then. How do you remember me? I hope I wasn’t an asshole to you!!
@@tackettshoh Yep, I thought so. I was 95’, Blue lowered Chevy C-10. Glad you’re doing good! And no , you weren’t an asshole😁
@@user-jp2ph4lk8l oooh hell ya!! Was it lowered?? I remember it!
@@user-jp2ph4lk8l Santana was a car show everyday I think!
@@tackettshoh yep! I think we were about the last of the motorheads to go thru that place!
You rescued those deuces for Rick not from him. Do them up as he would see fit. You guys were too tight not too.
Thank you!! That means a lot!! He was a really really good dude!!
Thanks for watching!!!! Stay tuned. I’m going to get these cars on the road again!!
The rust in those rear quarters is bad. I have had a few of these cars and right now working on a 64. Never seen those rear quarters rust from the top. They would need to be placed with the china metal that is thinner, hard to work with and hope the paint sticks to. By the time you paint it you could have $35K into a $25K car not counting a few years of work. Not trying to be negative just my opinion.
No. You’re not being negative. I’ve built about 30 of these 1st gen novas. I agree it needs quarters. Luckily the trunk pan and floor pan look good. I honestly may just get these cars as complete as possible. Make them run, drive, steer, and stop and then sell them for the next project. I don’t want to see them scrapped. Plus I’m helping Robin (Ricks wife). I’ll do the best I can with them. Film the work for content. Then move on.
I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching!!
That is a good plan, See if you can get that engine to run, replace all the 4 lug stuff, new brakes and steering to make it safe to drive and then it would be more sellable to someone that wants to take on that body work. Do you have the seats? Those Hardtop Rear Seats are really hard to find. I am new subscriber and will follow.
@@ricksoldcargarage I do not have the seats for the coupe. I do have a front and rear bench for the sedan. I think they could make a good mid level guy type project. Neither one of these cars will ever be 100 point show cars. And I’m ok with that. I’ve owned both show cars and ratty cars. To be honest. The ratty cars are funner for me. I don’t stress if it gets a rock chip. Who cares.
My plan is to do a “will it run” video on the 63. Turns out that’s a 327 with camel humps on it… could be interesting…… hopefully that will be next weeks video!! 🤷♂️
Yes. Please stay tuned.
Sure is a lot of junk!
You know the saying….. one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.
@@tackettshoh right...
Next time you see a bunch of junk like this! Let Steve or me know we'll remove it for you so you won't have to look at it anymore 😂😂
