THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, so much for this mezzo soprano (Mallika) part tutorial. For several years a friend of mine has asked me to learn this part to sing it with her. She is an opera buff and started her own opera theatrical company in San Diego County, well before CoViD-19 shut all of us down. Me? I'm a nightclub/bar pop and jazz singer, that these days, couldn't sing my way out of a wet 'opera' paper bag! I've helped her with pop singing because my hubby and I play a kind of piano bar/open mike type of gig and have for 20 plus years. Her powerful soprano opera voice and style has gotten us in trouble with management to the point where we were told we are no longer allowed to let her sing! Thus, it started my 'on the job teaching' her so we didn't have to cut her off! Now that we are stuck at home, with no gigs, makes a good time for me to try to learn the mezzo part of this song, as per her request. Your video is the best I've found that gives me the ability to hear the details of the mezzo notation. After I get that down, I will have to learn the correct pronunciation in French...another HUGE obstacle to overcome for me as my only other semi-second languages are ASL (American Sign Language) and Japanese! I also have aged, lost some of my hearing and have lost almost two octaves of my upper range of my singing voice. (In my 20's and 30s I had a bit over 4 octaves. I now have barely an octave and a half.) Yeah, I abused my voice and my body. :-(
@@skateordie9628 Awww, thank you! I have a million stories that would bore most folks to death! And guess what. I haven't touched this since I found it. Guess I'm getting so old that my ambitions outweigh my drive to complete anything any more.
@@mchasher I don't have the range any more. I used to have a 3 1/2 octaves. I just don't have it any more. I had it up till my mid 50's. If I still had it, I would really dig doing it just to say I did. I sure as heck don't want to do it and sound like a howling dog! LOL! I've never been into opera at all. I've worked all my life (up until the pandemic killed my gigs) doing pop, soul, rock, country, blues and jazz, depending on the band I was in. Most were variety bands so you had to hit up a lot of generas to please a variety of people. Oh and I have a great ear. A couple bands I've been in I was the only member who could hear and sing a harmony at all. I've had to teach a couple people to sing a harmony as if it was a melody, just so we could have 3 parts on a tune.
I’ll be singing Lakme on Thursday with a peer of mine for my Junior Recital! Thank you for this, I needed to hear her part, but because of Covid we couldn’t meet too many times. If anyone would like to hear it (and the rest of my recital), it’ll be live-streamed here on TH-cam on the Bower School of Music channel on Thursday March 25th, 2021 at 8:15pm.
I may be the only one reading this, but your story is fascinating! You go, girl!

You should take the high praise that your friend has the ear & confidence in your voice. Rally and do this for your friend, and for yourself.

MILA GRACIAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On beat 4 of "- lante" why are you playing a B natural when the score shows C#?
I really appreciate you recording this. Would you play the mezzo soprano for
Mira O Norma, please?

Do you have the sheets of music in sol major?
si tengo la parte en sol mayor
1:12
very nice service. Except the "wow" popup is distracting, and isn't the music enough on its own?
