    Whattup gangsters, the video description can't fit this information so it's placed here instead. Some mistakes pointed out in the comments: James Wan is Asian Australian (woops!). The image of Ridley Scott is of H.R. Giger.
    Here's a list of every film shown in order of appearance - refreshed per decade. A Letterboxd List of every film referenced, talked about and shown is also in the description.

    I really was saddened when you quit back then with the massive successes of "Life of a Streamer: Bricky" and "Do you remember Limewire?". These were absolute bangers and I really wanted more.
    Thank you for coming back, Matt.

    I am completely down for this channel to become a documentary channel. Stuff like Lemmino and Internet Historian always bring out interesting lengthy topics covering a wide range oh history and events in their own unique ways. Seeing Matt show off his pro editing and camera work as well scripted content really made this incredible to watch.

      I'm not. I am a college professor. I need to know the expertise of the sources of information. Anyone can post to TH-cam. The ability to produce a video does NOT make a person an expert. This stuff can be fun, but unless we know the expertise of the author, it is NOT authoritative. Social media is gossip. Joe Blow's opinion might be interesting. But it might be completely wrong.

      @D O So do all documentary channels or even opinion piece documentary channels have to have expertise in the field in which they are writing and or filming about?

    • @do9138
      @do9138 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@matthewwarner4119 Only if they want to be believed. We do not allow college students to use "documentaries" posted to TH-cam as sources unless they can verify the expertise of the presenter. There is a difference between expert views and Joe Blow's opinion.

      @D O wait. Was this projected as an authoritative source from an expert in the field? Or did someone in your class stupidly think this was an authoritative source? I don't think you watched the video because it does contain plenty of interviews from actual experts in filmography. Could some of the theory he discussed also be sourced sure, but this video was designed to be informative AND entertaining what portion of the video did you see as incorrect. And what do you know about his background?

    This is the best breakdown of horror history I’ve ever seen. It’s not overloaded, the narration and voiceover is pleasing, easy on the ears, and thorough yet concise. I’m not done watching yet, but wanted to leave a comment to give kudos to the creator and editor. Awesome job!

Well put together, well researched, insightful, interesting and it’s apparent that it was made with great love and respect for the horror genre. Also your speaking voice is very pleasant which, w/ a running time length such as this, is a must have or headaches often ensue. 😂 Yes you left out camp horror as a sub genre almost completely, but hey, nobody’s perfect, right? Really wanted 80/90’s camp classics such as Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, Motel Hell, Death Becomes Her, and Deranged, which are films that pretty much birthed and/or revitalized the sub genre, to get some love thrown their way. Maybe make a second part? Plenty left to talk about in that pleasant voice of yours that is sure not to give one a headache. 😉Edit: AUDITION is in my top five greatest most favorite films of all time. Forget just in horror, but ALL TIME PERIOD, any genre, any year. It’s a masterpiece. Seen it hundreds of times. Have owned the deluxe two disc box set for like 18 years, and I still watch it to this day. It never gets old. Could talk about it, down to the lighting and the shot angle choices, all day. Truly a work of brilliance. Thank you for showing it so much appreciation.

      @@MrCharlesWidmore Among many, many others, He made the 60’s camp-ish psychological thriller film Straightjacket with Joan Crawford right???? I LOVE THAT FILM. And I own it. Sadly, that film gets criminally ignored and chronically overlooked even when talking about Joan Crawford’s body of work. At most, it’s dismissed as “past her prime” 🙄. At worst, it gets totally ignored. When it’s actually a twisty, gloriously over the top, manic fever dream ride and I love it to death 🖤😂 Joan is fabulous as a woman smiling wildly through her “psychosis”, lighting matches on spinning records 🤣 Very cool you mentioned it’s director. 👍

    Hey man, as a long time viewer.
    Im absolutely astounded at this jump of passion and heart put into this video.
    Not that your previous work is shabby in any way. But every minute of this oozes art, commitment and deep knowledge on the subject. And it reminded me. This is exactly what you went to college to study, Films and filmmaking.
    I know it sounds like im just stateing the obvious but holy shit as someone who wants to make videos this is literal perfection. Not in the way that it's perfect, but its been perfectly crafted. I cannot wait to see your future content once again just like how i was 6 years ago waiting for your league videos in middle school. Bravo my man.

    I love it. At 41:12 you referenced a Dexter's Laboratory episode called "Slightly Psycho." After seeing that episode, I changed my Truck Driver/CB Handle to "Pslytely Psycho." I posted it in large chrome letters on the side of my Frieghtliner and have used it for every login that allowed pseudonyms ever since, including my bank.
    Although I already had decided to like the video, at that point you earned my sub! Awesome!
    As you didn't mention it, one of my personal favorites from the silent era is 1922's Häxan. Absolutely goofy and strange.
    I have odd tastes, like 1964's The Flesh Eaters (but only with the Nazi references, or else it makes no sense) and 1972's ultra low budget Invasion of the Blood Farmers. Poorly acted, stupid characters, Druid princesses, a perennial favorite of mine....it was also very hard to find a copy of for my collection. Toss in 1970's Equinox with Asmodeus as a park ranger and 1959's Kon Tiki the Immortal Monster you see where my head is....
    Pslytely Psycho obviously....

    Thanks for going over the technical parts of filming and how the screen is used to manipulate the audience. I remember that vanishing point/one point perspective technique from when I took understanding filmmaking in college. Filmmakers are storytellers with a different medium than books, and it's good to understand how and why it works.

      I agree. when Mel Brooks did his 'High Anxiety' tribute to him, he said, "we were talking about it, Hitchcock and me, and I've got Hitchcock pitching me jokes" as I recall, MB liked one joke, but it didn't get used. best line in it: Brooks pesters a bellboy to pick him up a newspaper, and the guy brings the paper into his shower, stabs him w/ it, "here's your damn paper!" they focus on Mel's face up close on the floor, like Janet Leigh, staring into nothing, when Mel says, "that kid gets NO tip!" I'm still rolling on the floor. the way the scene is done, is brilliant.

    King Kong being about racism and colonialism is based on that "study"? Or the original creator's intent.
    If it isn't the original creators intent then it doesn't matter. This sounds like some Joseph Campbell pseudo science bullshit. You can apply the same horse shit to any book or story.

    • @thrawncaedusl717
      @thrawncaedusl717 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m normally skeptical about overly focusing on racism in old films, but have you seen King Kong? Once there is a scene of a Black shaman literally trying to trade 6 Black women for one white woman, it’s pretty clear there are some racist undertones (the only question is if the director was trying, poorly, to subvert them, or if he supported them, and I’m not sure about the answer to that).

    This was AMAZING! Maybe you can help me figure out a movie I watched as a kid. It was from the late 60s or early 70s. It seemed like a trilogy. One short had a young couple who wrecked off a bridge and the girl would catch rides after her death but never make it to her home. The second one had a weird sound coming out of a well. The family dog fell into the well and the dad was lowered in to retrieve the dog. When he was lifted out, a picture fell off a wall. That made the wife immediately know something was wrong. Of course the dad was insane when he was lifted out. I’ve always wanted to watch it again, but can’t seem to find it. Hopefully you can help since you seem so well informed about horror movies👍
