Corals are extremely important for the environment and I’m not 100% sure, but this starfish eating or destroying the corals brings more harm than good. So ngl, I think it’s good to make the most out of removing it from the ocean. Although it wasn’t very successful, interesting video indeed!
The fried one sounds like something I might want to eat though.
Yeah CoT are the nastiest coral predators bc of their size & fast consumption rate, so they're better off in this guy's stomach than roaming wild in the sea
Corals are only at risk because of us. Previously star fish didn’t effect nut help to clean and make room for new corals but now there is no new corals.

@@nevaeha4048 yeah these starfish evolved in an environment abundant with coral. Now that we’ve killed all the coral we have to kill the seastars too. Sad.

So, for anyone who hasn't bothered looking it up, there's the toxins called saponin, which is water-soluble, and the other called sapogenin, which is fat-soluble. Meaning, the reason why the fried one didn't taste toxic is because the fat removed the toxins in the starfish.
Another point, every stage of this starfish possesses the toxins, so yeah, eating it raw was probably the worst choice possible, hahaha...
So basically fry after boiling it?
oil also had a much higher temperature so that maybe deactivated the poison?
He has repeatedly said, this was his biggest mistake in all the things he's tried to eat.

Maybe this guy is the reincarnation of the first Japanese who figured put how to prepare fugu. Not being afraid of poison. Through trial and error he perfected it and now sushi fugu chefs pass on his knowledge.

I really enjoy watching your culinary adventures! To get rid of saponin, would cooking it in oil cause all the surfactant to be bound to the oil? Maybe that is why the deep fried starfish was alright.

I know this is old but crown of thorns star fish are poisonous. They contain a cyanotoxin called plancitoxin. Its a nasty neurotoxin. Cooking does not destroy the plancitoxin. There's also saponin another cyanotoxin that they possess. They are kinda a soup of toxibs really.
There are however other species of starfish which are edible. I like them deep fried. The greenish brown flesh tastes remarkably like sea urchin to me.
"It becomes like sand, so you can never swallow it." LOL.

crown-of-thorns starfish has few natural predators. Which includes the giant triton snail, the humphead Maori wrasse, starry puffer fish, titan triggerfish and this guy.

I know they are considered a nuisance due to eating coral but I have to say they do look pretty beautiful in a strange almost alien way.
This dude is literally like those skyrim players that, instead of reading a book about ingredients, just eats everything to learn if it will kill you or not.

毎回本当に面白くて最高。今食材となっている動植物菌類はすべてこのような人が開拓したんだよな。
