So much respect for Geo for making sure Glover was ok after the slam. And he still won. That is what Jiu Jitsu is about
Né!
Jiu jitsu is all about brutally breaking other peoples joins and choking them unconscious.

Super necessary

Foremost, thank you BudoVideos for releasing this video for us to enjoy!
Only Glover could turn almost being caught in a twister into a triangle...
In elite level grappling competitions, I think that most holds, throws, and slams should be legal. These are the best of the best. What I didn't like about this, is after Jeff was visibly hurt after the slam, the match continued. Head injuries are no joke; the match should have been stopped there and Gio declared the winner. Why risk further injury? Much respect to Gio for noticing that Jeff wasn't himself and doing just enough to get the win, instead of being merciless and going for the kill on a clearly hurt opponent. I also love the fact that Jeff never complained and was gracious in defeat. Both of these guys are class acts.
abysmal adcc does not give a fuck that's the rule set. The more rules you place the worse the competition gets in my opinion. You are the best of the best you should know that when you have the triangle the person is gana go for the slam it is literally the best defense of triangle if you aren't fighting in ibjjf tournament rules. Obviously don't slam in the gym but you have to know that that is part of the game when fighting at such a high level. Glover knew he got hurt because he made a mistake.
Né
abysmal sportsmanship its really what separates pros n joez
if you want the legal rule..you accept the consequences of it. That's why is illegal atm..cause it hurts you badly.
That was a tie you ifiot
Jeff’s submission defense never ceases to amaze me
That slam was fully legal by ADCC rules. I'm amazed that Glover let himself be elevated like that. I'm sore just from watching that.
+parabellum9x19 the last slam really seemed to take the wind out of Glovers sails. I bet it knocked the wind out of him and he just gassed afterwards.
+parabellum9x19 He got slammed because no one trains for street anymore. Its about competition. Any of my white belts would have hooked the leg or let go.
+dragonballjiujitsu :D
+dragonballjiujitsu How do you know how Glover trains?
tillman keadle Well first of all I've seen him train. And second, you will do what you train to do. Its pretty obvious he has not trained to deal with slams. Any of my white belts would have underhooked the leg or let go. Its basic Jiu-jitsu 101.
Geo is such a nice guy. Jeff was almost out after the slam and Geo instead of go to the submision, looks kind of concerned for Jeff and chooses to go por the pass.
A very sportsmanlike move by Geo. I love seeing that kind of respect and humbleness in martial arts.
I'm with you guys for the most part. But it would have been completely legal for him to quickly slip to a dominant position, maybe even a position and once he woke up just finish him.
Slams are bitch moves regardless if its legal or not.
ガルシアザビエル no shit sherlock i practice jiu jitsu. They are in competion which means you try to win on points or submission you dont get points for slamming someone.like i said it is a bitch move for someone to use because they got themselves stuck in that position.
MrVideoyoulike dude, is nobodie's fault that you are so soft XD, get over that shit, the more the sport resembles the reality the more entertaining is, here's the lesson of the day: never fucking triangle somebody if you can't let it go when you are about to get slammed
Everybody bitching about the slam is ridiculous. If you don't want to get slammed either hook the leg or let go. He knows the rules he is an adcc veteran. Part of the game
Thanks for the free upload.
adcc needs to use thick wrestling mats. these thin tile mats are gonna put someone in a wheel chair if they're gonna allow power bomb slams
Né!
I agree
slamming is the reality whenever you grapple someone and they cant get out. they will slam you if they are strong enough and you don't prevent it because its the only choice they have. got to train for that because it can kill you in self defense if youre not aware.
I love how Jeff looks like he just came out of bed
Amazingly interesting. Glad I stumbled across this. I don't think I've ever watched ADCC before
Thanks for sharing Jake....really appreciate it.
For anybody wondering at 9:07 when Geo slams Jeff he definitely went out. Jeff actually had serious post concussion syndrome for the years following this match.
Love Jeff, but if you don't want to be slammed, then don't hang onto the sub. Hook the leg like in the beginning and use it as a sweep.
Jeff went to the rules meeting, he knew slams were legal, I think he figured it was worth it for the tap. he did improve the triangle after the first slam, and probably figured he'd finish Geo after the second slam. It was a legit and worthy gamble. If it had paid off, everyone would be screaming slams don't work and are douchey moves...
since it didn't work, everyone just screams that slams are douchey moves.
William Schrimsher it was hard for him to let go because geo trapped his arm.
The slams add more to the realism of a fight, but in competition, it can be quite dangerous. It can end careers so I think it should be illegal, for safety sake.
Né!
@@glennsosinske3260 Then so should be hanging triangle, you leave a powerful move and ban the most obvious counter to it
Disfrute mucho el video ,es grato ver competidores con tanta versatilidad,
I applaud Jeff and Geo...Jeff lost but won. Geo did excellently as did Jeff an excellent match.
There is no way Jeff won. He lost completely face the reality.
This sport has really evolved. Wow.
I always enjoy Glover's sportsmanship.
In Olympic Wrestling you can slam, throw, suplex, etc., full force so it is the same in ADCC
"At ADCC, if you get knocked out in a slam, it is just not your problem."... I disagree man.
No one is forcing you to hold the position or submission where you are running the risk of being slammed. These guys are at the top, they should be able to identify the slam coming and calculate whether the risk might be worth the reward.
Woosh
Great match. Jeff's escape from the twister to setting up a triangle just blew my mind. About the slam, I think the ADCC should adopt the same rule as in Judo: Can't slam, but if you manage to lift your opponent off the mat in a position for the slam, the ref break it up.
The slam merely dazed him, but it could have been a lot worse and nobody wants that.
Sylver G I like that rule, I think that would be a good addition to ADCC.
I never thought of that but that would be a great rule. Could prevent some life changing injuries.
Awesome match. Love watching both of these guys!
looks like two spider fighting.. respect, borderline inspirational
Two guys are awesome
How do they score it when there is no submission
The ball crush was a favourite of mine in elementary school against bullies.
The very moment you worry about your legs, Jeff goes for the choke, and vice versa. Very good technique displayed by Geo as well. I wouldn't last 30 seconds, and I practiced jui jitsu for a very long time...
what. Geo is a Beast. Anyone else would have taped. Wow what a slam.
pretty stupid of Jeff to hang on and climb higher when geo started to go on his feet tbh.
He was stuck... Look at Geo's hands... He blocked him to make sure Jeff won't defend the slam.
Gotta love Jeff, one of the most prestigious grappling tournaments in the world, competes up in a wife beater and boardshorts
Very good this fight. I liked a lot. I would like see Jeff Glover fighting with Myao brothers. Theys would go give show of positions and tecniques. Imagine Caio Terra or Rafa Mendes vs Jeff Glover?
great example of new school bjj. no boring stalling guards.
I like the slams
The slam rule truly makes ADCC the most prestigious grappling competition you can compete in, bc ADCC encompasses all aspects of no-gi grappling. Dangerous? Yes. But prestigious. You can compete in no-gi grappling without slams. But just watch these guys do their thing and quit whining about ADCCs rules.
I agree to a point. But with the points ruleset, you get a lot of competitors trying not to lose, versus trying to win. I greatly prefer submission only formats.
It's a stupid rule. Why not allow head buts and strikes There is absolutely zero jiu-jitsu skill involved in slamming someone and basically knocking them out. Surely Geo doesn't feel like he really won this in his heart.
Né!
crazy to see but these guys are at the highest level and they still have fun with it you don't see that a lot anymore
part of good jiujitsu is protecting your package
rick james
@@gavinvalencia1186 hahhahahahhahahahaha
I like the slam rule but on puzzle mats I don't think it should be. Most puzzle mats are 3/4" thick and won't even qualify to be a wrestling mat. I think if you want to allow slams you need to have adequate g force absorption mats.
I love watching jeff glover roll… even at the high level with high stakes he seems to just be having a great time and not taking it to serious and of he wins its a bonus for him lol
I don't see why slams are legal and heel hooks, etc., are not. It seems counterintuitive. Make it all legal.
As a side note, I feel like Jeff Glover, despite all of his technical knowledge, would get destroyed in an MMA context. Some guys' styles have translated very well (Maia, Jacare, etc.), but others, not so much.
+Clayton Jones All the leg locks are legal. heel hooks, etc..
Alex Hodi only in no-gi
+Clayton Jones but slams arent legal in gi
Mason Foerter exactly.
adcc is a no gi tournament
Awesome competitors :)
That slam was crazy! Glover was determined to get that choke
please post the rest
+shaunyb0i 24 dollars..pay for it and watch it ..this was to tempt you ..not to encourage begging
+deepsquat600 40 for the full thing. im pretty damn tempted...
I have not purchased yet ,,but I am tempted too.. pretty cheap for the # of matches you get
I got a lot of respect for both guys

Can you please post the ben henderson grappling match and gilbert burns :)
+BAD_BOY 17 apparently Burns won via armbar and Henderson lost by RNC
+tricepsish I honestly hate you so much
+tricepsish how about fuck you for the spoilers !!
+tricepsish Ha ha ha...my man was just trying to be helpful.
1:04 you see, i would just fart on him at this point.
ADCC has it right. IBJJF needs to allow heel hooks, knee reaping, and slams.
They need to get better thick absorbing mats like in wrestling. the thin tile mats adcc uses is too dangerous for slams.
He gave two warnings before the big slam
DAMN, 1:50 in the background slick back take. Too bad it didn't last.
slams are legal now?
White belt here
I'm struggling to understand why Jeff lets himself get into bad positions, such as around 9:25, where he intentionally traps one leg instead of the hips. Someone explain?
+Firzen Animage You can pull a lot of sweeps and submission from half-guard (lockdown, electric chair, etc...)
Eddie Bravo always jumps into half-guard because his lockdown game is amazing.
That's his style. He likes to bait his opponents by letting them think they are getting good positions. He is very good at defense and escapes and has unconventional attacks
Slam at 9:03
10p 4 lyf but jeff is still one of my idols! s2 paragon jiujitsu. Gotta have the confidence to wrestle as well at these adcc tournaments!
Does anyone know the name of the ankle wrap geo is using? My ankle is tweaked hoping that will help.
+funknotik you talking about the truck or lockdown?
Thanks for the leak! about to buy the whole event... :)
i think i saw geo won 5-0, anyone know what his points were for? a guard pass and?
imho, this match would have been even sweeter if it had been 20 minutes with EBI rules (sub only, with overtime)
EU SOU AQUELE COMENTÁRIO EM PORTUGUÊS QUE VC TANTO PROCURA KKKKKKK.UM ABRAÇO AQUI DE OURO PRETO MINAS GERAIS. OSSS
but witch videos will this channel upload?
I've said so many times ALWAYS have one point of contact on the ground because if you get hoisted up your fate is in there hands and as you can see Glover was hurt and lost the match because of that
Lol, who knows what that other match was that was going on in the background? I wanna see that one
9:03 in case your wondering
The triangle was never going to work. Geo had him stacked too high and holding on was pointless.
hence he lost
Is that a fishhook at @10:17?
Jeff is incredible but it seems like he's always content to let go of subs and move onto the next thing if it's not perfect. It seems like in several matches if he just bit down he could finish more holds. Anyway, he'd embarrass me on the mat so what the hell do i know.
servo66 i cant tell if thats what makes him so good or keeps him from getting better
Jeff you should have let go of that triangle this adcc slams are the real deal
damn man Jeff’s a legend in my book I think these types of slams should just be illegal unless superfights where both grapplers agree under contract. Slams like these ruin careers. Who knows maybe we would still see Jeff on the mats competing today
Geo looked absolutely exhausted at the end of that match.
jeff is stupid for holding onto that triangle. too much pride.
Big ups to Geo for being such a sport. I dont mind the slam rule but anybody slam someone they just cant brag about it. No Jiu Jitsu involved. Just saying Geo could have ended it while he went limp and did not. Good man.
+Eugenio Capielo This sport is not jiu jitsu, it's grappling.
That's exactly right. Jujitsu is very much used but ADCC welcomes all styles of grappling, and even combinations of them. The rules allowed him to finish him, and despite it seeming noble, was probably not the correct play.
perdoe a ignorancia mas porde bate estaca no adcc??
Don't like seeing a slam, but Jeff Glover absolutely knows how to avoid being slammed
this is why i dont let people pick me up. my feet get below like a cat when i feel them raise me up. i train at a gi gym where no slams are allowed but i think its just a bad habit for self defense.
I love BJJ and no gi is a highly effective form of grappling (not that wearing gi's is not) and ending someone in combat. But BJJ has one ridiculous aspect to it: initiating contact. This is one aspect of the sport that seemingly needs to be adjusted.
The engagement techniques are so ridiculous and impractical. Dont get me wrong! I know theres strategy and high level technique involved; establishing position is obviously extremely important, but the manner in which that's attempted by many BJJ practitioners appears to be senseless.
And during my childhood I grew up wrestling and later on learning some BJJ at an MMA gym (i never earned a belt of had an official teacher/mentor/trainer for BJJ). I was learning to understand the methods and techniques related to submissions, but make no mistake the blackbeat I was learning said techniques was phenomenal.
Why not just tie up like wrestlers to earn positioning? I understand the gramby roll into the 50/50 or any leglock set up, but a reverse crab walk and other approaches that I've seen are somewhat hilarious. It seems more for show that practicality.
I'm open-minded. Change my mind and justify the beginning format of a BJJ match? I appreciate the response if there is one.
Because bjj allows for you to play off your back normal wrestling techniques aren't always what either competitor goes for. Wrestling is becoming more important these days in no gi but still, since so much of a competitors time is spent learning guards many people are fine with just pulling guard, or only learn how to be taken down so you wind up in the guard you want to play. This also means if you're shooting you want to do so in such a way to not wind up in someone's closed guard.
@@matthewg4882
I hear ya. That a reasonable explanation. Still, I've seen a few BJJ matches where both competitors clearly want to pull guard and it took almost 5 minutes of hand fighting to finally lock up. By the way, this was being done while on their asses which made for some interesting entertainment.
Perhaps it's the wrestler in me, but maybe periods can be implemented in no gi matches, so that part is eliminated. First period neutral; second period in the opponents guard, third period in the other competitors guard. I realize theres some unfair aspects to doing that, so it's a stupid idea, but the manner in which some matches start should not involve two guys hand fighting while on their asses for 5 mins lol.
I just have to except it, because I can't think of a fair way to fix what seems broken. I guess it's fine. It just seems like such an odd way to engage an opponent.
If Jeff put on some muscle he would be a world beater
+irone93 but Jeff opted for the Wife Beater instead. huehuehuehuehue.
It's not either or. You can be very strong and flexible.
Oh! I hope he wasn't sweating too much for too long around the 1:12 mark!
That triangle was really cool to watch, everything about it was awesome, anyone know why jeff didnt adjust the arm to the other side?
Geo has his left arm (the one in the triangle) under jeffs arm hooked onto the shoulder as geo is stacking jeff so its really hard to even try to dig to get an under hook and place the arm across. Lol 6 years to late for the answer tho. Jeff tried to creat the angle aswell by digging and messing with geos right arm
nice fight
He has to let go of that triangle when he’s that high. Too dangerous, too much force.
Holy fuck. That slam was hard to watch. That felt like a legal strike in a grappling competition.
If you're going to have slams, at least call the match off when the grappler goes unconscious. Jeff most definitely have some sort of brain trauma.
Was Jeff submited?
Not enough credit given for lifting Jeff completely off the ground more than once without using his arms.
I really don’t get why everyone is so against slamming at this level I mean he hooked the leg the first time and stopped the slam and then committed to finishing the triangle and got slammed he gambled and lost is what it is but why would that not be allowed lol
E esse bate estaca ??? Pode isso?
It was so satisfying watching geo get eliminated in the first round at ADCC 2022
Why always glover has the submission but never finish it!! He looks like he doesnt take it seriously
“Let the boys be Boys!”
About as far from the spirit of Budo as is is possible to get.
Bate estaca?
Sweet match! If Jeff would have angled his right heel outward rather than inward, wouldn't that triangle have been tighter??
For sure
I love the respect after the slam. He let him recuperate for a little. I love this sport.
Lutão! Oss!!
i laughed so hard for the double donkey guard LOL
love glovers style
Would love to see Geo Martinez vs Miyao
+Ewaldt Botha its happened as an expo thing.
+FFmaxx Whaa..? Oo
+Ewaldt Botha ya its on TH-cam.
Thanx mate. Just loaded it
A luta na outra área estava melhor
Nice slam, but i kinda expected somekind of technical escape because hes tecnically so good.
How many more matches is Glover going to have to lose before he stops with this taunting nonsense?
What does taunting have to do with him losing this match? He almost won this one in case you missed that.
@9:02 Damn.
bate-estaca? achei que fosse proibido.
jeff is just the craziest grappler. but you have to be a special kind of blackbelt to defeat him
