I disagree, I have dived pretty deep into Diana and her story. I don't think she moved towards the marginalized in society because of self pity but rather that she could relate to their feelings because of what she was going through personally I.E mental health struggles. I don't view that as surface level you have to go pretty deep and really connect with that person to get that feeling. Its really hard to have empathy when you are in a dark tornado of emotions. it takes a lot of strength to put that aside and hear about the troubles of others when you are already burdened with your own struggles.

Ummm i disagree with y’all. The reality is, that everyone is different. I too believe that she became the person she was going to be forever.
It’s a very complicated discussion to have but there are people who don’t change. I truly believe that Diana wouldn’t take anyone’s advice bc it may require work.. and that the work she did feel she put into the royal family was wasted. So I believe she may feel that why try when I failed so spectacularly? I’m gonna do me.
      Again total speculation.
But I do agree that anyone who feels they need to talk to someone should. But that doesn’t resolve what one does or thinks immediately or ever.

If you think Diana was someone who never grew up and was emotionally stunted, then you should consider the fact that she was 19 and very sheltered and naive when the MUCH OLDER Charles plucked her to be his brood mare for the institution. The institution created this situation and to this day refuse to learn from their mistakes. Despite all her challenges and the abuse she suffered at the hands of the institution, she did GREAT things in her short life.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. Most of the stuff with the royals is kept behind closed doors. Other than the backdrop of historical events, and the things we know about already, the writers have invented a lot of it for dramatic license to create a story arc. Interesting how Americans think the portrayals in the Crown will affect their popularity ratings. Maybe in the US, but I don't think it makes much, if any, difference in the UK.

I think Debicki was great in capturing Diana’s conflicting pathos, but didn’t capture her captivating public charm. Stautan as the Queen was so bland. I think it would have been great to see Helen Mirren reprise the role. Coleman, Bonham Carter and Gil Anderson from season 4 were impeccably cast and was always going to be tough to follow.

If the same tragedy occurred to Charles and Camilla, we would have said that it was karma, to say the least. It's time, after 26 years, to stop the idolization of the character and to understand the problems of the person behind it.

I felt like Charles was portrayed like he probably is. Sure he wanted to modernize the monarchy and use his platform to help others. But he was/is also a selfishly entitled royal, acting like a spoiled brat because mummy wouldn’t abdicate for him. He also wanted desperately to surpass mummy’s popularity, which I think hugely motivated his good works. He never did, though, and I am thoroughly happy about that.

I thought Dominic West did a horrendous job. Yes, he was miscast to begin with- but he could have done a ton more to capture the essence of Charles (e.g., awkwardness in his physical movement/ gangliness) and clearly didn’t put in the effort. I hope he gets no noms for his work.

I feel sad for Princess Margret’s story. She seems to be like a tragic figure. She will never take the throne, but have to sacrifice for being the sloppy second and give up her happiness to support “the system”.
I can understand why Prince Harry is like “I am not going to be that sucker and live life miserably”. Like what’s the point of having money and power when you have to live life by other peoples’ rules?

Unfortunately, the most unsatisfactory season so far. And I think it was a little distasteful to not even write any kind of dedication to the Queen and Prince Philip seeing as they both passed away while this season was in production.
I used to like this show. But it feels like the staff only cares about taking and taking from the royal family. They refused to put disclaimers that not everything in the story is accurate even though the parliament requested it, now they can’t even be bothered to put a simple memoriam for the real people they took stories from. They are opportunists who seem to become so arrogant and I’m not sure I want to support in the future.

I haven't seen The Crown, but I'm glad to hear that Charles is getting a fair shake in the show. I've always liked him (based on available evidence) and I'm proud to have him as King. (Sidenote: It's quite strange to me that making a show about someone who is still alive, without their permission, is allowed. How is that moral by the standards of common decency and privacy?)

    • @AllGreyEverything

A monarch is the definition of a public figure. I can see an argument when it comes to athletes, actors and even convicted criminals, but artists should always have the right to depict and examine political figures.

    • @DavidM_10
      @DavidM_10 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@AllGreyEverything I'd argue that everyone has a right to a private life, including royalty. Then there's the question of how accurately they're being depicted. A show, after all, is designed to entertain, not to be perfectly true and fair. And yet a show has the power to reshape and ruin the reputations of real people.

A Royal reporter, Rebecca English, on the weekly Daily Mail show on TH-cam has said she has seen parts of season 5 and maybe all of it. She says parts of it get very close to the edge of being defamatory. The Crown is currently filming season 6 now and has filmed Diana's funeral and her being in the car in Paris and up the the moment of the accident. There are photos online of filming the funeral and the car scenes in Paris on the actual streets where it happened.

It’s kind of ironic that “Royal Reporters” and tabloids like the Daily Mail were more than happy to milk all the drama in Charles’ and Diana’s lives when it was happening, but now feel the need to be gatekeepers of the reputations of royals.
