In 1971, the contract with Polydor was terminated, and the band came under the protection of the German prog-rock label Pilz Records. By that time, the line-up had been expanded by Gerd Köthe on saxophone. Soon, the album Schmetterlinge (English equivalent - Butterflies) was released. This time, Joy Unlimited really surprised. Conventionally divided into three parts, Schmetterlinge is like a magic box, each time you open it you find something new for yourself. There is melodic krautrock, monumental progressive music, and a very unusual use of brass instruments. In some ways, the Germans have certainly outdone their British colleagues on this disc.
I hope you didn't labor on Labor Day. That day is for Rolling Rock, rolling reefer and relaxing to rock. The first three tracks are lengthy themes broken down into smaller songs. I guess kind of like a concept album. The part in the middle was a little spacey, but not space rock. The songs with vocals were prog rock. The female vocals were strong. This band had multi-talented musicians. I noticed one band member played guitar and flute. Another played guitar and bass. Another member played trumpet and bass.. Two bassists in a band is a bit unusual. I never saw a bass player in concert who could also play trumpet. That's also a bit unusual. Burton Cummings of the Guess could play guitar, flute, keys and of course, he could sing. There were other multi-talented musicians in other bands, but right now I'm brain dead and can't think of any besides BC. Amigo, Button Cummings came to mind because I love the Guess Who Wiz, I'm sure you know the song, "Summer's Almost Gone" by The Doors off Waiting for the Sun album. Cheers, Prairie Dog
Good review on this hard to define record, some multi talented musicians on this album. You mentioned Burton Cummings - Todd Rundgren is sort of like that. The Guess Who are a mighty awesome band, I've probably got about 7 or 8 recordings by them. Off the subject a little bit, I know you already know the Psychotic Reaction by Count Five, but if you ever got spot In the day listen to the song "Double Decker Bus" if it wasn't the flip side of Psychotic Reaction it should have been. Cheers - Strange Brew 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🌵
@@wizardwandmusic6457 Strange brew kill what's inside of you I have the single, Psychotic Reaction" The flip is, "They're Gonna Get You" It's cool, perhaps more garage punk than psych garage. I've heard "Double Decker Bus" It's on their only album titled Psychotic Reaction 1966. I believe it has been reissued on CD and 180 gram vinyl. Now you've opened up a can of worms. I'm gonna look for it. It deserves a place in my record stash. They were a one-hit-wonder from San Jose, CA, the northern part of the San Fran Bay area. Guess Who were awesome. I dig BTO, too. Todd is multi talented, indeed and a producer. I saw him back in his Utopia days Todd is coming around at the end of September at a small place. Not a bad seat in the house. I'm going with my brother for his birthday Oh yeah, tix were reasonably priced. Peace, bro. Peace Frog 🐸 to you, amigo

Fantastic German band !
Love the Emotion sequence with “Eden Park” & “Silver Gun”.
The groups first LP, Overground” is just as impressive to me.
Thanks Jack, I'm going to check Overground out. I have also seen a self titled album with a blue cover by Joy Unlimited. Cheers 🎶🎶✌️
