Bought a 2009 Impreza 2.5i in 2015 with 35k miles ---- Been driving it since and is my daily almost 7 years later (currently at 146k miles). Only issue I've had is an O sensor issue that is an easy fix (but since the SOHC stays slightly more engaged due to this, feels like the car is "sportier" - better throttle response by maybe 5-10%). Anyway, bought a 2014 STI just to get rid of the "underpowered" issues. But let me say this: Ever since owning both the Impreza and STI, I've never appreciated my Impreza more. The most fantastic daily driver - drifts deadly in the winter. No turbo = No extra Problems.
I have a 2010 Impreza with 95,500 miles. I've had no problems with leaking or anything like that, the only problem that I've had with it was the ignition coil pack going bad. But at the mileage it has, it's common for that to happen. So all in all, I haven't had any problems with mine. Whoever had that Impreza before you might not have taken care of it/beat the shit out of it
Sorry bud but there are techs doing rebuilds on the NA 2.5i for known issues. The head gasket will go and it's all about when it goes... 95,000 is nothing compared to Honda or Toyota and even some of the VW engines that I know I would rather work on. By the way if the head gaskets go then the engine is coming out since you aren't replacing them in the car.
I own a 2008 outback sport with 150k miles, very very similar to your impreza model. I love it and will always be a subi stan, but I agree with pretty much everything you said. I personally don't mind the plastic interior or squeaks (mostly cuz I listen to music a lot), but I can definitley understand why most people do. They're reliability is kinda overated, with leaks and head gasket issues being decently common in subarus (although getting a high quality aftermarket gasket should mostly fix that). When I got my impreza it had a bunch of issues just like yours. Only things I disagree with were some of your comments about the engine, and I personally don't have an issue with road noise. Anyways sorry for essay, i'm just bored and wanted to share my experiences. Great vid my man!
same mate i got the normal 2008 outback with the 2.5 and 5 speed i have it for like 8 years now no problem the only thing that i had to change was the clutch cuz i am idiot :)
I have a 2009 impreza 2.5i it has 169000 and runs good. No leaks, doesn't burn oil. Only regular maintenance. Bought this car to deliver food in 2014. With only 60000 on it. Always starts and drives.
I have a 2010 Impreza and it leaks oil none stop . I need to get it fix fast 😩😩😭😭😭my current issue with it . But I agree with everything u said in this video
i have a 2008 impreza with 161k miles as of now, no probelms other than a slight leak of the power steering fluid o-ring. Really good and reliable car. Reliability comes down to how you drive it. The previous owner of mine babied it and i bought it with 155k with a CEl on from an o sensor, it was an easy fix, and the CEL hasent been on since. Overall a very solid car, but underpowered imo. Also cant argue the rattles and sweaks. My driver side buttons on the door rattles lit no tomorrow lol
Just bought a 2008 Impreza with 114k miles previous owner definitely maintained it internally but not so much on the interior/exterior got any recommendations on what I should put in it?
I bought one of theses 09 sport hatch no turbo for my first car had 120k miles and had to pull the motor wasn’t fun. After that I put wheels, new stereo, subs etc loved that car
Congratulations you got lucky. If the issues were rare then they wouldn't be things you commonly head from people who have owned Subaru's or technicians.
I bought an 09 impreza outback sport with 120k and at 137 the head gaskets blew I've been working on it for several months now. I'm not a car guy but I fix stuff when if goes wrong. And this has been hell. Easily the hardest thing I've ever attempted. I replaced several things before even finding out it was the head gaskets.
We currently have a Hyundai Matrix and we are thinking about Subaru. But we want a 1.5 liter engine, that has no reported gasket issues. Also we are used to rattling plastic interior. And last thing, I love boxer engines a lot, I just think that it is too quiet from factory, so aftermarket exhaust is a must.
From 2:30 onwards! That gurgling sound inside the dash has been driving me crazy, is it really due to the plastics? OR fluids (coolant) just making their way downtown?
I have a 2011 has 105,000 miles no problems except for the heated seats the connector stopped working so I have to get a new one the plastic sound was dash it's little but I hear it
I have a 2006 Impreza Outback Sport with 76,400 miles on it. It's the red one. I have no problems with it currently. Car is in mint condition, not a single scratch. When do you think we should replace the head gasket?
No lie, I don't have any idea. I sold the car shortly after making this video. That said I would definitely keep an eye out for a bad head gasket. One way of knowing is by looking at the oil cap, and if you see mayonnaise, then that's a good indication of a bad head gasket
a little hand sanatizer in the corner of the dash made that squeek go away for me lol. they only start to leak when you over rev them in my experience. and you can have the motor or transmission out in 2.5hrs and the timing belt off in 1,5hr that shop ripped you off...
Labor here is 115 so if that's just the time to get it out...oof. That's the nice thing about cars that can have work done to them without pulling the engine.
Cons ridicilous oil chance interval and service intervals , very chep plastic interior, noisy interior even at in medium speeds, thin carpet, cheaply made, hard to service due engine orientation. Pros 4wheel drive, handling and they are cheap after driven more than service book have pages because people dont trust the engine to last (for good reasons).
Not sure if you’re ever going to see this message but I’ve heard that the 2.5 has always had some problems and that the 2.0 is a lot better, what do you think since you own a 2.5?
Tbh, I never experienced the 2.0 but from what I recall, that is the EJ20 which was a strong motor. That was commonly found in some of the older imprezas and wrx’s (which subaru turbocharged). I sold the car but it has oil leaks and consumption issues with 80 some thousand Kilometers on the engine. My experience was not the best but that doesn’t mean that other imprezas wouldn’t be decent.

@@Izzys_Autos The engine is just loud. Like 3000 rpm sounds like 4500 on another car. my audi wasnt loud like that at all. Its not making a sound that indicates something is wrong.
