    Very good presentation. Great that your SOP is to keep the bolt forward and on fire. There is no "Safe" on the M249 or M240 due to an inherent problem with Sear Override. I have educated so many a CSM or First Sergeant on having their men walking around with Ammo in the feed position bolt pulled to the rear and on safe. Had the opportunity to demonstrate at JBAD with a M240B in a guard tower. I loaded the M240 and placed it on safe and lightly slapped the side of the gun and it fired. Game changer for the REMFs in charge. Also made me feel safer at night knowing some kid was not going to accidently kill a blue force Soldier while going to Green Beans for a latte.

      This is the first other story i've ever heard of this. One of my close friends got an article for an ND, claimed he fell into the back of the gun while in a vehicle turret, couldn't be too much of an impact, and it fired.
      It was tested extensively and never replicated, I still quite believed him, and never trusted an open bolt/safety machine gun. Good to hear there is some credence to that point.

  • @OGBlackBridge
    @OGBlackBridge 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    CEPs are hearing protection with built in speakers.
    It used to be you could only radio out to tower or other acft with the floor switch, and the button on the box that your pigtail plugs into is internal only. I was a L and M model gunner, but I have way more time in the L.
    And that is an M240H. That was a butterfly trigger that came off. A rifle style butt stock that was put on.

    Former Huey mechanic, crew chief and ALSE technician. Most mechanics don’t know much about the safety equipment which accounts for the nervousness. An ALSE tech would whip through that thing like it’s his child. He really fell into his own when progressed to the M240. WAY better recruitment video. If the Army put that on the air, aviation branch would be bursting at the seems. You tell an 18 year old, joins us, we’ll teach you how to fix a helicopter and we’ll let you fly in it AND, we’ll give you a machine gun to shoot out the door and a pistol. I want to reenlist right now!

    • @BombproofCraftsman

    • @MrJoeylap
      @MrJoeylap 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BombproofCraftsman agreed, but if you’re told part of your additional duties is to fly around in a helicopter and shoot this machine gun at bad guys your primary concerns are; keep it flying and the guns. On the ground you better damn near be an amorer on your weapon because not just your life hangs in the balance while flying around you can fly away. Basic cleaning and clearing is all you’re getting. Now I will say this, I’ve been out for quite some time and I’m happy to see the weapons have progressed. We had D model M60s which required an amorer to convert to a ground model. We would have been screwed going down with spade grips and no hand guards. If I were flying today and went down and we happened upon you and your guys I would be smart enough to hand over my 240 and take an M4 and work as an AG.

    • @BombproofCraftsman
      @BombproofCraftsman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrJoeylap and I would probably tell you to hump the 240 out of whatever hell hole we’re in haha. Those things are mostly useless until you’re in a static position be it offensive or defensive. Shoot move communicate kill is hard to accomplish when you can’t shoot & move at the same time. Hip fire is the only way to shoot the 240 on the move, works for suppressive fire but not very accurately. Now the spec ops dudes have a slick stripped down version of the 240 that actually becomes manageable on the ground. About the same weight of a m249 w/ the 30cal goodness of the pig.

    Thanks

    • @jayscott8583
      @jayscott8583 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well if you want to be a crewchief you will still be doing maintenance. Being a crew member is a secondary duty. So just remember you go out flying all day then you get to maintain it. Along with a few other jobs.

      @snoozlewoozle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the aircraft, i'm a 15T (blackhawk mechanic) and working on transitioning to a flight company and getting my crew seat. But like the first guy said, you'll still be doing maintenence, a lot of it. You need a certain score on your asvab, but after you get the mos, youll go to basic and ait in virginia, takes about 6 months total, give or take. Then you get sent to a delta company, do maintenence, but you can move to a flight company and be a crew chief pretty quick if you're on top of your shit. Its not easy, but i definitely recommend it. The training is a golden ticket for the civilian world

      I was a Tango for about 6 years before I went to army flight school. I started out in D Co. (Maintaience) for about a year. I wanted to get on flight status so I took a flight physical and asked my leadership about transitioning to a flight company. I was MEDEVAC and deployed to Afghanistan on my first deployment. It was awesome I enjoyed it. But that's my story. A lot of guys in my class found them selves in a flight company as soon as they got to their unit. If you decide to go the Tango route with the intentions of flying know that It MAY not happen. But it is a strong possibility. Not everyone who is a Tango wants to fly. If you want to pursue this, you NEED to have a good attitude and good work ethic. Being a crew dog is a great experience and very rewarding but if you are lazy , have a bad attitude, always late and things like that you will see that is not tolerated and you will fail at this job. Other crew members are depending on you to do your job and you are seen as a member of a team and family. To answer you question you kinda get to pick but a lot depends on your attitude. I hope this help
